No one is going to sit over my shoulder and say 'shoulda burned at that direction' 'that angle is good, but this one is better'. I do watch some of the instruction videos like how to properly apply tackle (web after scram) either MWD burn right at them, secure point, hard turn, max out AV or go slow point creating a spiral formation which will give you max protection, but you may take too long in securing point. When we roam I usually go for the direct approach since the life of my shitty little merlin is next to worthless. But no matter how many times I excute properly I'll never know if I could be doing it better. If I fail to secure tackle how will I know what do better next time.
First off, Merlins are not worthless, and you should pretty much always spiral so you don't die when we need something scrammed. Secondly, the best way to know what to do when you are new is to copy good players.
I meant from an isk perspective, compared to other ships merlins are a penny in the pot. Tactically yes I understadn they are of great value. I was just commenting on 2 different methods of tackle- one is the safer route, but you may not obtain tackle if your target flees, the other is direct but you may not make it to the target alive to tackle. In a fleet fight you may be better off spirling if you know your opponets arn't going to flee. If your trying to nab a fleeing target- best is direct no?

When in doubt spiral. Obviously vs missiles it doesnt matter just grab point.
There's a few other times you can make a judgement call and just grab point by flying direct, but you'll look dumb if you make the call wrong and won't have a defense other than I said fuck it and wanted to click once because most of the time you were just betting on them being bad and not primary targeting light tackle.
Just to check, the conversion rate for LP is still around 3k/lp right? And what should I be doing when Minmatar hit T5, should I ask someone in supply depot to give me advice on what I should buy?

Around 3k isk/lp yeah, and next time minmatar hits T5 (probably next sunday) then you will want to go to the TLF station in Hek so that you can spend all your LP while it is still T5. Typically people buy implants, if you want a safe buy then I would go with +4 learning implants, they have huge volume in Jita so they are insulated a little bit from the craziness of the market right now.

Go with a spread of implants is your safest bet. Never get all of the same type, mix it up. If one is low, hold onto it and sell it later.
In about a month the endless supply of cheap implants will start a very slow crawl back up to PRE-FW levels and that's where the real money is--unless your ultra poor like me and have to sell right away

So, what skills do I want to be learning on my FW alt after those initial merlin ones? Do I want to go for a more tanky ship, to do the higher level of beacons, or improve on what I have currently?
