Yeah played to level 21 and sick story for sith warrior as said before. I have never played an MMO as much as I have in 3 days lol. The only one that came close was star wars galaxies which I got to level 40 before quitting but that was a struggle for me to get the urge to keep playing after 35.
Same with lord of the rings online, thats the "3rd" one I got to level 20 in like after 2 months or so (didn't play it much couldn't get into it like I could into swtor ).
I am actually doing side quests (normally hate these) and am enjoying them. This in my eyes is huge for me. I always enjoy the main quest more, but the fact I can do side quests and have fun with them is a huge + for me. In all the other MMO's for me I did side quests just so I can level up faster to do the main quest. While I do the side quests for the same purpose I am not going like "ug another side quest I have to do so I can level". I am enjoying the talking portion that keeps me more into the quests rather then text, see what it is, accept/decline.
I don't know about PvP not my biggest concern it will be a thing I do after I finish the main quest (which I pray goes all the way to level 50 lol). I know at level 21 I was only on chapter 1 of the main quest which is good makes me think it will go to 50 and be very long .
I am praying the jedi knight quest I like as much if not more then the sith warrior. But man this is going to be a great x amount of weeks once the game comes out until I beat the jedi knight, then another few weeks or however long it takes to beat the main quest with sith warrior

The content in the game far surpasses anything else, but if they don't do something about the lack of instance-searching system like in WoW. Then its staying power will suffer, it really sucks there is alot of 2+ heroics and you have to wait for someone who is in your position too to come around before you can complete it.
Also even thought the PvP has some minimal innovations over WoW PvP, if Beta PvP is the official PvP then there will never ever ever be a competitive PvP scene ever. No PvP gear till 50?, trash XP? not good.
I think it copied WoW too much, I was healing in a flashpoint and then i realized the 2 heals dynamic of 3.4 cast 55 energy heal vs 1.5 cast 50 energy heal that heals almost half as much is the exact same in WoW. At that point i felt i was playing WoW with a SW skin. But for Questing this games perfect.

Ah yes I also agree with this. I found it a huge pain in the ass to find a group a lot of the time but I am hoping its a beta thing and gets fixed or made easier. Idk about PvP but overall I agree with everything you said as well

It's..it's Kotor the mmo. Pretty much that.
Just wanted to throw out there that the GCD in WoW is 1.5 seconds.
But I do wish there was more "energy" or it regenned faster, although after a while i figured out that if you don't frontload your damage(as bounty hunter and smuggler at least) and put in ur "regular attack" in between your energy consuming attacks, instead of just railing off your energy attacks then regular attack till you get energy again... that it regens much much faster. It took me like the whole weekend to realize that the energy regen buff is greater the more energy(less heat) you have so you want to keep it low instead of overloading, and yes it took me that long to realize it cuz im dumb

I agree with basically everything you said. The PvP needs some MAJOR tweaks to make it a decent part of the game(although PvP gave me quite good experience?). Healers need to be tweaked pretty badly in warzones, there are basically no escape mechanisms. Straight damage dealers deal too much damage(not to mention that even straight damage deal specs still have like 5 CCs available to them), and healers don't have enough efficient heals to keep up with it against an even somewhat decent opponent.
Also the warzone designs are basically just lazy. Real PvPers don't want all the gimmicks that are in Huttball. We also don't want SotA(even though no vehicles are a plus) where the two "gates" are only 15 feet apart. The only thing that ever prevents an even mediocre team from defending the gates is the fact that respawn "timer"(aka that stupid fucking invisible wall) is seemingly entirely random. I"ve had deaths where i spawned and there was no wall, and deahts where the wall was up for well over a minute... it makes no sense. The AB style warzone isn't that bad, except that the speeder bikes on the sides make it too easy to defend a point.
All this being said I loved the beta, and even had a FUN time playing the pvp... its just not what im looking for for competitive PvP. Hoping there will be major tweaks in PvP, and new(more competitive) BGs, and arena too.

I also wanna say the questing experience is so good i would buy the game even if it were single player. Kotor 1/2 you could finish off in 10-20 hours depending on the amount of "side quests" you do. swtor it takes about 10 hours to hit lvl 16 max level being 50 (most people would be faster i'm just not a big fan of MMO). Basically what im saying is the MMO/P2P aspect of the game allows for a ridiculous amount of excellent content that wouldnt be possible otherwise.

I played in 2 weekend betas...the story is so good I'd just play it until I max leveled every class. The imperial agent story in particular is so sweet.
|
Anyone else trying to play from China? (or anywhere outised of europe/USA?) I got invited to the beta after pre ordering the game, but when i get to the launcher it says " you are trying to log in from a region we do not allow someone to play from". Bioware won't answer any of my tickets, as if they were avoiding to answer (they answered another ticket on a completely different topic...) I hope that doesnt mean I wont be able to play the game at all...

So I played it and I really didn't like it, it was terribly boring. Same generic Korean MMO that has been released before. The only difference is I can duck for cover, but its so slow paced that it's not really worth my time.

Well if you don't like stories or stuff like that yeah this MMO isn't for you, this MMO has an actually good single player component that is not for everyone . If you are playing for just the combat or PvP I think you will be severely disappointed.

So this was my 2nd beta weekend test and my opinion of the game is it is a direct wow copy. Sure the storyline is better and the quest are more interactive but that is literally the only difference. I played to a lvl 30 sith warrior and pvp actually felt WORSE then wow. Maybe its just me but the thing i enjoy about mmo's is being able to get the best gear and then go kill everyone in pvp. If the pvp is'nt fun i really don't think the MMO is fun. I used sith jump into the fight and it felt exactly like warrior charge, and everything that followed after that was just like "wow, this is exactly like WoW". Very dissapointed to say the least.

The thing is the Sith Warrior is probably the closest you can get to a WoW class. Try playing something like Bounty Hunter or a Smuggler.

"but if they don't do something about the lack of instance-searching system like in WoW"
Thats a great thing, that there is no 1-button+port to instance bullshit! that destroyed the server communities in wow. A MMO has to have some communication.
@CHINA Try a VPN/Proxy.

And WoW was basically just a copy of Everquest. They are not trying to reinvent the genre here.

Why re-invent when you can take some insanely successful features, re work them a little bit, add some production value and call it good!
I don't mean this as a diss, I fucking love the game and probably logged 30 hours over the last 4 days playing it. I got a smuggler to 16 and wasn't too happy with how it played, healing was pretty bleh and the cover system just wasn't for me. I got a trooper to 24 and was in love. Having played a hunter since 2006 on WoW, everything felt right. Big guns, lots of death and killing things that I just shouldn't be able to with lots of corner kiting.Healing was rather fun as well, although the means of healing felt a little silly with energy beams from my rifle, but it was still fun enough I'll be playing trooper on launch.
Companion spoiler for trooper below.
+ Show Spoiler +M1-4X is the best companion ever. I have never heard such enthusiasm when dealing with possible genocide, and I didn't expect a 7 foot droid to make me giggle like a school girl whenever it spoke.

The Jedi Knight quests are awesome. My only problem is that since its an MMO and a lot of the quests come down to you being one badass Jedi killing everything and everyone is that there are others that are equally badass. (I wanna be the best dammit.) I mean as a fan of Star Wars in general and having never played any other Star Wars games this is fun for that reason. I get to make my own light saber and pick its color!
But, yeah. I 100% agree with you. The story shines at every point from every side quest and even the little bonus things. I don't know if you did any flashpoint quests, but those were pretty fun for the first time I did them. It was like playing a Dragon Age: Origins with multiple people, which is something I really enjoyed.
Edit: Editted to sound less fangirlish.

I did not do flash points because I am a noob and forgot they exited until yesterday which was a little late to do them LOL. I will be doing them at release and can't wait as they look like a blast from the video's they showed :D

After playing the beta over the weekend I find the game to be pretty fun to play, combat is awesome and looks great and the voice acting is amazing. The game is still very buggy thou and has tons of graphical glitches and with release a bit more than 2 weeks away it looks like it won't be as polished as they say it will be.
