There are plenty of games that have broken traditional MMO boundaries, but main stream MMO fans reject them (Eve, OMG spreadsheeets/learning curve, Guild Wars 1, OMG instances). MMOs do not need to have the exact same class mechanics, grouping systems, quest systems, and loot grind in order to be "MMOs."
The problem with Guild Wars 1 wasn't that it "broke traditional MMO boundaries" and people didn't like it... it was that it just wasn't that great of a game(can't speak to EVE have never played)
As far as "nobody wants innovation" I wouldn't say thats true at all. SWTOR is actually bringing a lot to the table that should, while not reinventing the genre, should definitely freshen it up quite a bit. The reason that they keep similar mechanics and other systems isn't because thats whats needed in "order to be MMOs"... its that's what needed to be a successful mainstream MMO. If you with to play some niche MMO without those things you are well in your own right to, but don't expect the masses to do so. Developers like Bioware develop for success... not in order to please the very small minority of MMO gamers.

I enjoyed the beta a ton, this is going to be a great game.

With the possibility of diablo 3 being released in january and elder scrolls, mw, etc, being released in about a week, I think there's gonna be a very tight window for this game to sell and actually keep subs now =/
I for one no longer intend on picking the game up for the reasons above, mainly because skyrim can likely hold my time until d3, and then my mmo fill will be satisfied.
Really hope this game succeeds though, liked what I was able to see in the beta

I was not a huge fan of GW1 either, but the game had 7-8 million people at one point.
"People didn't like it" is a complete logical fallacy.

Just got a weekend invite.
I think the TOR servers are taunting me. Signed up for testing on day one. Cousin (who did not preorder, and still won't be-- he will be waiting a few months) got to test 2-3 weeks ago. This weekend, I was going to pick up Skyrim, or if I felt up to it, ride to Arizona to attend the wedding of a friend + Show Spoiler +(decision rests on how confident I am in my tires-- they need replacing and I can't afford it until after New Years) , and spend the weekend out there.
Well played, TOR. Well played.
edit: so I'm not misread-- if I do not go to AZ, I will be testing TOR. Testing the crap out of it.

I got a weekend invite. It's cruel, I've been checking every hour for a DotA2 invite. I'm curious, I don't think I signed any NDA - can I stream/record?

P sure the NDA is included in the terms of use. If you accept the invite (or maybe if you log in; definitely something along these lines), you've agreed to it.
If it weren't, we'd have a lot more info than we do... [conjecture]

Due to BW screwing up whole EU with beta. I won't be buying this game. I will wait for reviews , play, hots d3 pandas homm6 skyrim....and if it ends up a huge success i will buy it....really disappointed.

I found it, eventually. It isn't in the EULA, but rather in the original agreement I signed months ago. The exact allowances for disclosure are:
1. The fact that there is a Game Program. 2. The fact that you are a member of the Game Program.
There is a beta. And I'm part of it.

Geez, less than 2 months till release. I think I'll do the same stuff Cartman did to move into the future, to get Wii.

My best friend got an invite as well. We will be doing stuff coop. Looks like a TON of people got invited for this weekend, likely to stress test some servers.
|
I just got an invite for this. Anyone want it or have a DotA 2 key to exchange? Otherwise I'll just give it away, I don't play MMOs (I did when I signed up for this like 2 years ago).
