If Bioware breaks the lore, I will not buy this game, as I am what could what could generously be called a book of SW lore.
Surely there is some wiggle room here though, this is set in an era that hasnt been covered much right?

As far as I am concerned, you are not qualified to make an opinion on this game unless you have played it. If you want to say it's good, and you have played the Beta to a reasonable amount -- go for it, as long as you provide your reasoning for it just like I will provide my reasoning for disliking it after playing it. However, if you have only looked at some footage that THEY wanted you to see at Gamescom that fluffs the game up a shit ton and makes it look better than it truly is (because every pre-launch game does this), you don't have a valid opinion on the game. I don't see anything wrong with the game either. Yes it's WoW with a SW skin, but the game has potential. Questing/lvling is fun, PvP needs improvement but it's only beta. I went into the game thinking it was singleplayer-WoW in SW skin and I already hated it for months long before I tried it and I went into the beta being so prepared that it was awful. But once I tried it I changed my mind and it was just really really awesome. Basically if you like RPG's you're going to like SWTOR and I don't quite get it why critics say it's a singleplayer MMORPG because there's a lot of grouping and you are out in the world with other players most of the time.
December will be a good month.

Can't wait for that game already. It's gonna be so awesome (or at least improved-WoW, which is all I need tbh to enjoy it), MMO in SW with nice story lvling and hopefully great pvp and operations at end-game. December is so far away

I was following ToR very closely past 2 years, but when they actually showed it at Gamescom, I saw just WoW in space. I dont want to bash this game, because I really like Star Wars and I want it to be the best game in the world. But what I saw was just disappointment
|
The last starwars games I really enjoyed were SWG (before it turned to shit) and Jedi Knight 2. If this game had persistent player housing and city building with the combat from JK2 and open world pvp, I'd buy it even having played the beta and been disappointed by it.
It's a fine game, and people will enjoy it, but another wow style game with full voiced dialog and "story" isn't for me : /

I spent 90% of my weekend playing the beta, and all I can say it strikes the balance of feeling like WoW without being WoW. It is a very good game, and if you give it a few hours it will bring you in. It's going to be by far the best MMO since WoW, and will be definitely be a success.

You just can't let us enjoy our hype can you? Don't want us getting too excited. Wanna keep us down with your pessimism. I am super excited for this game and feel it will rock what is left of WoWs socks.

You forgot Vanguard, LotRO, DC Universe, and STO.
All of the more recent reveals have killed it for me. Sure. it's nice to have story scenes and voice acting instead of text boxes, but that doesn't make "kill X guys and get Y things from their corpses while right clicking Z interactive objects inside small area N" any less of a tired formula.

Having wrapped up about twenty hours on the beta i think i can say:
I greatly enjoyed my time on the game and wish i had more to spare. The stories were far from bland, kept me interested, were voiced AMAZINGLY (the facial motions of expressions and speaking were outstanding as well!).
I will say, questing is quite similar to wow, but i dont mind that, the concepts are all familiar with a nice twist. There are cut scenes to break up the monotony and put a face with a personality to what you're doing and why. Professions (as i refer to them from wow) are conceptually different in a very unique and interesting way, that i cant speak about.
If you enjoyed mass effect (1 or 2): You should enjoy this game If you enjoyed mass effect and you like star wars: You are going to enjoy this game If you are looking for a pure PvP game: you should look elsewhere If you listen to people nit-picking: you may miss out on what i personally think is a very fun game. If you like starfox64: You are going to love your starship

Not when I've heard the same story of "You can't let us enjoy our hype can you? Wanna keep us down with your pessimism I personally believe this game will finally kill WoW" for every single MMO released in the aforementioned post and the one two above me as well and within two months the game is dead, no. No I will not.

For reals? Don't play with my heart strings. THAT IS FUCKING AWESOME

I think anybody that's disappointed with the game just expected some sort of SWG rerun. I for one, and I think a lot of people will agree with me, think that a traditional MMO (since WoW certain didn't invent the wheel) set in the SW universe + some solid storytelling (which frankly most MMOs fail horribly at) will be great.

Within 20 seconds i immediately thought, IM DOIN A BARREL ROLL! now im going to let you think about that for the next 3 months =P

Had a blast over the weekend playing it. Questing is far more engaging and almost feels like you are playing a single player Bioware rpg at times. Still can't believe they managed to voice literally every quest in the game.
Having your own spaceship for travel was also pretty sick.

I understand where people are coming from when they say they don't want another wow game. BUT I bet the first time most of these people played wow they absolutely loved it.
WOW did so many things right that it would be foolish of bioware to make a game that went out of its way to be the anti-wow (what is that exactly?).
I definitely agree with your statement, they took the smooth flowing gameplay and understandable game mechanics of wow, added their own unique storytelling along with the star wars universe and made a game that felt like wow but still feeling unique in its own right.

So jealous I remember playing in the closed beta in 09/10 can't remember which now but even though was buggy and played the characters I didn't care about (bounty hunter/imperial agent) I had a lot of fun and that was only to level 15. December will be a good month ^_^

December 20th seems sooo far away. Looks interesting. Im also ignoring the people that dismiss it and say "lawl WoW in space".

And noone really hyped Darkfall other than the very small niche crowd it attracted.
