Then why would they bother with separate factions? It would have been much easier to have a single faction that you can branch out to either light side or dark side with. This is like the same people who said WoW should never have focused so much on PvP, but Horde VS Alliance was a key component to that universe, just like Sith VS Republic. You PvE guys are funny. The Star Wars universe is about good vs evil, Republic vs Empire. Of course they are going to let you play as both factions.
What does that have to do with the game mechanic of preset PVP matches? It was included as a side item because some people enjoy it. Bioware has said all along the focus of the game is a story-driven "PVE" experience. Just because they didn't make the game you want doesn't mean there's something wrong with the game.
I for one am glad their priorities are where they are.

Me to. Like I have said before this is the first MMO where I have ever been able to hit max level cap ever. Let alone continue to play it every day since I got in early access. I have never been this into an MMO, and this is the first MMO where I created another character to hit max due to the story line (sith warrior story so sick :D).
I can't wait for their next story content addition, even though I imagine thats a few months off still can't wait

Well, it is the PVP based talent spec, go figure. Nowhere is that made obvious Except half the talents in the tree are intuitively pvp oriented and useless in a pve scenario? In fact even the pinnacle talent in the tree has a movement slowing effect (which you're not going to care about on a raid boss).
Lots of the damage increase talents are crit based (crit = burst = great for pvp) and then there are talents to make some of your channeled skills uninterpretable (not a PVE thing). The spec also has movement based talents everywhere; movement slows on your enemy, movement increases for yourself, reduced rage cost on movement modifiers, etc.
I thought it was pretty simple to figure out that it was a spec designed primarily for PVP.

has anyone else had such a bad experience with support?
a big quest chain (i believe the big one in Taris, with that obnoxious sith who antagonizes you) has been stuck for me at the very very end. no reset option, no abandon option, no relogin nothing.
just another regular day in SWTOR. i have sent a ticket through the ingame client. have searched on the browser to find if there is an option or a follow-up email i should send but nothing comes up. 2 days now all i got was a "droid" repsonse that closed my ticket. now i just spam the ticket but nothing happens.
any ideas to force the quest to conclude or reset?
for the empire guys, i need to kill master Cerik on the hangar on the far west of Taris. i got the cinematic just fine, i face master cerik, i kill him easily but the quest wont update. i suspect the npc that was helping (thana) maybe confused the game, although the boss never got that gray colour. in any way, the kill did not register as mine and i cannot procede with the quest. this happened 2 levels ago... how can i pester the support a bit more? maybe through a specific email or smth?
also i found out there is not an ingame support function from the swtor site. in every other mmo i had played, even if your problems were ingame, you could submit them via the browser when logged in to the publishers site. this just doesnt happen...
fuck fuck fuck only reason i play this game is the story, and one of the best ones in this planet is stuck for so long because of fcking support.

If it is a game bug like that they can't fix it on an individual basis, they need a game patch. If it a bugged quest it'll likely be patched really soon though, they've already patched a huge amount of quests to fix them.
Not much more to say, sorry.

Just saying that players are definitely right to bitch about PvP, since at the moment, the most accessible, best lvl 50 gear is pvp gear. Change that, and PvP will take its rightful role in the back seat to story.

There are a lot of hardcore players out there who like PvP.
It's rare for me to find a MMO storyline memorable. I play for vibrant gameplay.
Other guy is right. You will have to wait until they patch that bug. All you can do is report it and many games usually do it via ticket nowadays, even if they aren't subscription based.

why would you want to play pve over pvp in a multiplayer game (except for something like a good storyline)? thats the most important thing i want to know about wow, swtor and many other mmorpgs .. any suggestions? :D most probably the players dont want competetive pvp or maybe its because pvp plain sucks in games like wow (pun intended ^^) imho raiding scripted bosses at maxlevel that always do the same isnt fun

Are you joking? PVP gear in this game is actually quite terrible for PVE.
Columi gear is miles ahead of the champion gear in terms of PVE stats (and about the same difficulty to obtain), and anyone worth their weight as a raider is doing the content which drops Columi gear.
Expertise is a huge waste of stats which has zero benefit in a PVE environment. The only people using PVP gear for raiding are those doing easymode raids or those who already have good PVP gear and haven't yet got a full set of PVE gear from the easier PVE content (i.e. overcoming sub-optimal gear with skill).
For PVE Rakata > Columi > Battlemaster > Tionese > Champion > Non-tier Artifact level 50 PVE gear > Centurion
tl;dr PVP gear is only really good for PVP.

The feeling of dropping a boss after having spend countless wipes learning the mechanics and then trying to perfect them is an amazing feeling.
Why do people enjoy playing single player games? Because of the challenge usually and the feeling of accomplishment when you complete it. The same thing applies to a raid in an MMORPG just add 7 friends and an aspect of teamwork to the situation too and its all the more exciting.

Why are people playing PvP in a MMO when there are far better options for competitive games, where a RNG isnt that big of an effect (hit, miss, crit, range of damage) or where gear is not important?

uhh maybe because those people think playing against a robot is boring, and don't always play games to be competitive?
edit: Will this game be enjoyable to someone who dosen't care much about Starwars, but enjoys MMOs?

There's nothing wrong with liking PvP and having good gear be PvP gear, but it shouldn't be easily accessible: it should go to those hardcore PvP players who bust their ass to get it, not be freebie gear to everyone.

No more than WoW is to someone who doesn't care much about warcraft but enjoys MMO's. It's pretty story driven.

Which is how it is.
Nobody can tell me they have a full set of battlemaster gear yet only run pvp casually.

As for your first comment, I really had no clue that Star Wars was about a light side vs a dark side kind of conflict. So glad we cleared that up, thanks a bunch.
When you add something like PvP into an MMO, it's not really a "side-item". A "side-item" would be something like the space combat we have now. Or Pazak. Or Sabaac.

Good point.
If they're advertising around half of their servers as "PVP servers" then it is expected that PVP will play a more significant role than just a "side item".

Well pvp is trash anyway and has no more depth than dota - lol terms of mechanics.
Fyi dota - lol might have better ( im sure theyre more balance as well)
This thread proves how broken by design are defences in pvp.
Everyone who grind to high rank and got defensive gear just got gimped and wasted their time , you still gonna be 3 shoted from dps classes in pvp , add the gimp heals that for a reason are also de buffed by 30% in pvp and is a dps fest .
Heres the thread

As a high ranked PVPer with a lot of experience PVP-tanking I can straight up tell you that post on the swtor forums is full of shit.
"As a fully geared tank in pvp i have 17,000 health. Quite a bit." If he has 17k health, he isn't fully geared.
If he's losing 2/3 of his health being opened on by operatives, he isn't fully geared. Even reading that thread people are disagreeing and can't make up their mind on what the most useful tanking stats are.
When I was pvp tank specced without full gear (and not a single piece of battlemaster gear) I had 19.8k health. Champion geared operatives would open on me and do about 1/8th of my health when using EVERY cooldown. Healing is nerfed by 30% because if a competent tank is protecting them it takes an entire team focus firing, interrupting and bursting for them to come close to dieing.
When ranked warzones are released you'll see, I can 100% tell you now that the top rated teams will not be made up of 8 DPS players, they will have at LEAST 1 tank and 1 healer (more likely 2 healers and 1 or 2 tanks). It will not be a dps fest.
To call it "the worst pvp game ever" is an utter joke and completely laughable for anyone who has seen PVP at a high level in this game. My guess is you're butthurt that you rolled a level 20 tank and you're not invincible in PVP.
Also lol @ using the swtor forums as evidence for anything. Go to the main page of the PVP forum and you can see a thread about EVERY class being overpowered. People just like complaining... a lot.

And because the warzones are mixed with players from all levels, a lot of the complaints really do come from lowlevels, like a level 20 complaining that mercenaries are overpowered because he died in 4 seconds.
The class balance isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be either, every single class does very well at PvP and it's not like any class doesn't have a chance against another. And noone goes around 1-3 shotting people either unless it's a rakata geared operative (or at least really good geared) vs a low level in the warzones. Exception might be marauders because they're pretty bad without good gear but they scale so well that as soon as they get geared they can do really well.
Surprisingly I'm still having fun PvP'ing and that's coming from someone who usually hates battlegrounds/arenas.

That is a really bad comparison. Very few people who played WoW seriously cared much about warcraft and played that game a ton.
Pretty sure SW:TOR is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy less enjoyable for most people than WoW if they didn't give a fuck about the story in either game. Its much more story\lore based.
