I'm really hoping we get esports at 1.0 even if the player count is ~1000 they just fund it with a war chest or compendium where you can choose to support the circuit, maybe like you get an army accent doesn't have to be something super crazy that takes away from dev time and that money gets put into the esports prize pool. Then, you host it online and have a community caster such as beomulf, or aureil or anyone else who wants to cast it. 0 production cost and the competitive scene is satisfied. Thoughts? You could even do it for 3v3 mayhem mode if you want up to the team and the community if that is just a for fun mode or if they wanna make it competitive.
Again, it doesn't need to be a big thing, but my point is it's SOMETHING at least. What does frost giant get out of this? They get marketing. They get players logging on more consistently to practice too. Before they said they wanted to do esports, they haven't said they don't wanna do esports anymore but it has been silence so there is a bit of a question mark in the air if it's still actually happening or not. I believe they said they wanted the competitive esports circuit to coincide with major patches or campaign chapter being released and I think it is a really good idea.
Thoughts guys?

side note after playing some more games: if they make cheese viable at higher levels i will be very sad. i really liked the defensive mechanics so players dont die early, and now i am getting argent rushed every game :/

I still somehow think you're some kind of undercover agent for frostgiant studios because everyone knows this is beating a dead horse. Yet somehow you keep circling back to some heralded e-sports scene

Bro what competitive scene? There’s like 50 players. If you login to the game and play 10 ranked games you’re likely going to be within the top 100 despite your results.

More of a map issue than anything.
Fastest hedgehog will be out at ~1:30, start 2nd then just trickle dogs after your farm. Just need basic servo micro then you can pretty much march across the map to start the snowball and you usually just win after that.
If they go for eco you can kill an argent or more for free still and you'll get the first Stormgate which hopefully isn't a brick. Same thing just trickle dogs to get map control and for scouting but don't over make. Throw down your expansion on your next overcharge. You'll be playing from behind but getting something like the production boost can make it more even. (still slightly behind even then)
Unfortunately you'll always get people fiending for wins, but if you suspect the rush just do the build and practice micro.

I'm still enjoying the game. I maxed out all the co-op heroes (except Ryker) and still play 1v1 occasionally.
I won one game unexpectedly - vanguard mirror. Guy was dropping exos everywhere and kicking my ass. I had a decent lancer/exo/med army, so I walked across the map and it turned into a base trade. Since he couldn't fight me head on, I got two stormgates in a row easily which allowed me to win (one stormgate gave me the anti-air rock thrower guys, another was the big demon). His MMR was a lot higher than mine, so I assume I got lucky!
As I said back in the winter, it feels like FGS still isn't really monetizing the game. No skins, voicelines, announcers or whatever. One co-op hero in the past 6 months. No "new" campaign missions that people like me who bought the Kickstarter can buy...
I guess there's been a few small pets or whatever. I'm sure FGS wishes their campaign would attract a bunch of new players.
I assume they're saving money for one final marketing push at the end. Hopefully (for them) there's actually fun things to buy?

Stormgate failing is not a good thing for RTS in general. Investors will just see that RTS is not profitable anymore. They will hardly see or understand that the game was just not good enough to be successful.

You say that, but SC1 wasn't *really* a phenomenon outside Korea and yet they made SC2. I think developers specialty can be seeing unrealized potential. Perhaps that will lead the way to a StarCraft 3...

SC1 was selling phenominally well, i.e. millions of copies, which was huge for PC at the time, even outside of Korea. The game was immensely profitable. They knew they had a huge IP at hand at that point.

Thoughts guys? if they only care about marketing then show match is the most cost-effective way to do it. the community can run their own fan hosted tournament, if there's enough of them.
pro scene? they would need way more viewers to even be considered by tournament organiser

Probably done til next patch/update.
At this point I think they should just move to charges and instant training for all production buildings. The alternative is just just remove it for infernal but I'd rather them keep it and just make it a feature of the game. m For t3 units obviously limit to 1 on completion etc.

Sadly, the new art direction didn't do much for me. I'd be surprised if it had a large impact on anyone's perception. Like some things look better but other things look even worse and less readable, and the game is somehow more derivative of SC than before with the servo and stuff. It's like changing your name from Johnny Shitz to Billy Shitz. Like what? Also still at square one with worldbuilding and vibe, with no attempts made to create some coherent narrative that might hook people into trying the campaign, or install the game, or anything. It gives off the message that the studio is projected to shut down. Just a couple of meek patches here and there, supposedly goin all in for 1.0? Just don't see it. Would need a great trailer and massive gameplay overhaul to have any hope at enough people buying stuff just to cover costs, let alone make a profit. Took the team 2 years to realize creeps were a bad idea, only to introduce a new idea that doesn't blow you away. Just aint it. I'm lookin at these Stormgates thinking this could be cool but it isn't. A pervasive theme, unfortunately. I guess gobsmack, the guy who read aloud the e-novella on youtube gets a paycheck for a few months. God I don't know. What's even going on lol. But anyway, saying all of this kind of rhetorically, since I'm personally almost entirely checked out but remain interested in this whole thing as if it were a TV program.
And ye you can shoot me in the face with a shotgun now that I posted in this thread again.

If people want to reignite at least a little bit of hype for themselves, D.O.R.F. seems pretty cool to me so far. They've been uploading to their YT recently. Obv not the first time someone's brought up DORF, but just sayin. It's not a Blizz-style RTS, so it probably won't scratch that itch, but it's a cool project that's coming along nicely. The only thing is I have no clue when it'll be playable. I was thinking of making a separate thread for it but have been too lazy.

I recall DORF was on the same reveal as Stormgate and I was trolling our SC2 community (looking to branch out to other games over time) that we should go all in on it.
But it does look pretty solid in what it’s trying to do. Like old school, lots of cool shit and explosions everywhere

Yes that first trailer was lit, but I was on the Stormgate koolaid kart at the time so I kinda dismissed it. Not trying to get on another hype train only to be disappointed but it seems like unencumbered fun. Definitely C&C style but possibly emanating a lil WC2 sizzle dizzle, with an added lil injection of LSD/liquid nitro straight into the nostrils.
But nah, idk. gotta appreciate 2 people making a 2D RTS with some style. My only big criticism, just related to personal taste, is that it's another game that doesn't emphasize micro, or so it seems. Not a single modern RTS seems to be doin that and I think there's just a huge gap for it but oh well.
