And a new expansion in 2024. Quite nice to see 7 year old game getting updates and new expansions as well as being modernized to fit better with the times. Man i never tried this game altho i did have it in my library for ages. Started it abit today and i was hooked by its dark feel, way diablo should be. Anything i need to know about it? Shall i get the expansion etc? Too bad it doesnt have multiplayer like diablo tho.

Back then it wasn't very good imho. The story was super bland and generic and didn't even make much sense to me. I also made the mistake of trying melee blind, which was a terrible experience because melee felt like swinging wet noodles against enemies back then (including the damage...). I heard they fixed that later, which got me thinking I should maybe give it another try.

I thought that it was brighter and less gritty than Diablo games, but very pretty nonetheless. The story wasn't particularly compelling to me, and I eventually got bored because the combat was a complete joke. (I leveled up a single skill, and it would always win battles, so I was never incentivized to explore the skill tree in any more depth. I kept a lot of unused/unallocated points for hours and hours, just in case things ever became difficult. They didn't. No need for any additional spell/skill slots at all, just left-clicking and right-clicking. Because of this, I didn't even need to explore any itemization in the game either. After 20 hours of dealing with the basic gameplay, I stopped.) In my quest to find a suitable replacement for Diablo games, Path of Exile appealed to me the most (but I would subjectively still put it a tier or two below the Diablo series), and then Grim Dawn and Last Epoch are both a few tiers below Path of Exile for me. Edit: If you enjoy playing it, that's all that matters ![]()

You don't need expansions right off the bat (unless you want to play as one of the expansion classes). What they give you is not just extra areas etc. but primarily new classes, which means more potential builds. Crucible is also a cool addition if you just want to do something different for a bit - basically just fighting waves of enemies and the higher you go the better the rewards, if you want to minmax you even start your char in crucible to get some early levels and eq and make your campaign play smoother this way since in the beginning the game can be a bit slow. One tip I can give for starters is that it's good to focus on one damage type and go with it. Once you're more comfortable with the game and its mechanics you can experiment. The multiplayer is there but it's not "always online" stuff and you won't meet people at random. Basically you need to either host or join a hosted game. There are of course plenty other melee builds, but even this simplest possible one works so anything else will too ![]() On November 12 2023 22:11 DarkPlasmaBall wrote: I eventually got bored because the combat was a complete joke. I guess this depends on what you want from a game. For me this is perfect because I don't want to be pressing 15 buttons every fight and even in D2 I only really used left/right clicks and didn't bother with using more abilities.

Edit: If you enjoy playing it, that's all that matters ![]() Just wanted to throw in here that Grim Dawn has difficulty modes that correlate to Normal/Nightmare/Hell from Diablo, and that the Normal mode in GD is about as difficult as Normal in Diablo, i.e. basically a tutorial. The Hell mode is where not only the challenge is, but a lot of extra content/superbosses/etc. You can get away with just 1-2 damage skills throughout the game (depending on your build of course), but against the challenging content you really need to move around (there’s movement/blink skills unlocked in one of the expansions) and press more buttons for debuff/defensive skills. That being said, I personally enjoyed the lore immensely, so if the tutorial is too much of a slog without that motivation that’s understandable.

I look forward to checking out any new classes, whether they're Spiritborn, Paladin/Crusader, or anything else ![]()

Didn't you play the Tal Rasha build in D3? I thought that build was gather a huge group of enemies then spam both mouse buttons and the 1-4 keys until everything in the screen is dead. ![]()

Also the Devs have said that the Abattoir of Zir starting December 5th, the final tier, is not meant to be beaten. So bets are on that players will find a build to not only beat it or a bug to use to beat said tier.

Around greater rift 100 you didn't have to use anything except teleport and maybe one more spell really as everything just died instantly from the falling meteors.

I have a few other quibbles. But those 2 are the biggest ones. Still, the game is pretty fun when Blizzard isn't shooting themselves in the foot.
