Between this and the almost permanent 25% discount on Blizzard/Steam 3 months after the launch (which I have never ever seen in any previous Blizzard game), they must be REALLY starving for active players... It'll probably be f2p when the first expansion comes out, and lock the seasonal content behind the paywall. I got the same email and will try it out. its only to level 20 but I'm sure thats enough.

"Take a moment to look back at what the community accomplished together in Diablo® IV’s first season. Annihilation of the widespread malignancy gave rise to an impressive 581,926 Level 100 characters" Assuming that statistic is accurate: Over half a million level 100 characters in a single season (not even including the many level 100 characters before season 1 came out), not to mention the millions more that were anywhere from a low level to level 99. It seems that D4 is far from dead.

Yeah it's funny, if anything I'm a bit of a hater on this game just because I disagree with a lot of the design choices but all the times I tried to google player numbers, I got a bunch of opinion pieces and YouTube videos proclaiming it dead, and then actual stats websites telling a very different story...

Yeah, I don't know how accurate any of these statistics are, but sources say things like over 5 million active players https://activeplayer.io/diablo-4/#:~:text=There are about 324,636 players,of day and other factors. and 1-1.5 million daily users https://mmo-population.com/r/diablo4

That number should shoot up in season 2. It looks like people are enjoying it more and my ultra casual brother is already level 70. I'm going to start playing in a few weeks, I think. Also, don't people need to own the game before leaving a Steam review? Did a lot of people really buy the game a second time just to leave a negative review there?

Of course, some crazy people had multiple level 100 chars, but it's still an impressive number nonetheless. I heard nothing but bad things about season 1. That number should shoot up in season 2. (Or maybe their first time buying D4 was on Steam.)

You want to compare it to dota 2 or cs2 or whatever that has concurrent players, like cs2 is obviously way bigger game, does that have 20 million daily players? I don't know, because I look at concurrent 900k and that's the only metric people universally understand, not this arbitray "10 million accounts" , "30 million monthly logins" etc. What's difficult to understand about a statement like "an average of about a million people played game X every day, this past month"? Obviously, knowing which average is useful (mean vs. median vs. mode), and knowing how many minutes/hours the average playtime is, would be helpful too, but I don't think the statement is completely devoid of useful information.

The game had a lot of negative reviews very quickly after release on Steam. It released to coincide with season 2, which seems to be well regarded so far.

You can see if the person used a product key or bought from steam in the top right of the review. It will show a steam icon if they purchased through steam or a key if they used a product activation key.

Unless the review function is coupled to a minimum playtime? I don't know if there's a minimum playtime required before being eligible to leave a Steam review, but if there is a minimum playtime, it's definitely not longer than 1 hour. (I've had people leave Steam reviews for my video game after playing only 1 hour.) Anyone who's salty enough to commit to the pay -> review -> refund scheme probably wouldn't have a problem idling or clicking around for at most 1 hour.

Makes me wonder why they don't have this kind of review protection. Just make it 10 hours played before leaving a review. This would solve a lot of review bombing cases. Whats the name of your game?
