I'm sorry but I don't believe anyone will even give a second thought to playing D4 1-2 years from now. IMO all the people they lose this year are gone forever and I assume quite a few of them are like FaCE_1 above or myself where D4's second (and last) chance was Season 1 which they botched. I mean, for me it even had a ripple effect and I no longer even have battle.net installed as the distaste for Blizzard carried over into D2 for me.

I would play the game 3 expansions later if they put in considerable work to make the game good, but I highly doubt they can pull it off.

If all of this happens in the next 1-2 years (along with significant patches along the way), then perhaps some people might be drawn back as a sort of redemption for Diablo 4, but a lot would need to be improved, and this would be one hell of a "playing the long game" from Blizzard. On a side note, I just had a lazy Sunday where the wife and I were half-watching television and half-doing other things. My half- other thing was just sidequesting with my D4 Necro. Leveled from 20 to 40 in a single day, which felt kind of nice. I feel a D4 expantion is inevitable but will go the way of the D3 expantion. Will fix many of the issues, make it a better game. It will sell well, but not to the expectations of Blizzard because many players gave up on the game, and then they will cancel the future expantions (as they did for d3, in fact the Lilith and Innarius plot was the plot for the cancelled d3 expantion). I think many players will simply not give the chance to them.

Should we really pour more money into this project as consumers and buy an expac when they can't even get a bloody ladder season right?

I still think that rares work best as midgame items. Endgame BiS items should be mostly uniques. This is the mistake that Diablo 3 vanilla made. When the pace of upgrades slows down in the endgame, it becomes a chore to sift through random loot. We'll see if the planned changes will make much of an improvement. I'm skeptical about this. Gem and experience quality of life improvements are needed. No aspect QoL? That's even worse than gems right now. I stopped playing for around 2 months before finally finishing the last few levels of my first char. I feel like the aspects I wanted dropped a lot less. The patches in between diluted the pool greatly. I have misgivings about annual expansions. Even if they fix the endgame, I don't think I'll play it enough to make paying for annual expansions worth the money.

They mentioned a few things you might consider relevant to gems, experience, and aspects: -Gems will start off as shards/materials that don't take up inventory/stash space until you choose to create your own gems (which you'd probably only do in small quantities, to directly socket into items); the developers seemed confident that this would basically solve the issue we currently have with filling up entire stash pages full of different gem tiers. -Experience is supposed to be boosted all across the board, from naturally leveling up to receiving experience through completing side quests. -Aspects and other stash items will be more intuitively arranged and easily searchable.

Yeah, the gems QoL changes are awesome. I'm hoping the experience boost is enough, will have to see if leveling speed feels right after that. I think they still need to do something about aspects. Intuitively arranged doesn't change the fact that they are taking up so much space in my stash. And how hard it is to get the specific ones I want (without having to resort to the codex min roll one).

He makes a good point. Sure, there are some minor QOL changes in D4 but they don't really change much in the game so why bother?

Players can say that they've moved on and that the patch changes should have already been in the game from the beginning, but it's clear there have already been huge improvements in previous patches, and the upcoming ones for season two are also significant.

They're just some QOL improvements. This doesn't mean much if the core gameplay loop is bad, itemization is bad, skill trees are bad, combat is bad, crafting is bad... They could give people infinite stash tabs and it wouldn't suddenly make the game good and most of the changes shown above are not even on the level of more stash tabs... I didn't stop playing because I didn't know what to do with my loot. I stopped playing because it was incredibly boring and none of the changes I've seen so far seem to be addressing that.
