And then when sticking the the original gives you ridiculous things, they still do it anyway (i.e. anagram names for the Awakening expies).

One of my pet peeves is their continual naming of the dragons wyverns. Malig Knight doesn't really make sense either while Revenant is a perfectly English word.

That one at least probably has a legitimate reason--since Revenant Knight is pretty long, there's probably somewhere in the game where it breaks the formatting, so they needed a shorter name.

The Wyvern/Dragon thing is interesting, considering that FE10 and FE11 went with "Dracoknight" but FE13/14 went back to Wyvern Rider/Lord.

The issue is that the Japanese names for the Wyvern classes originally came not from Japanese, but from English loan words as "Dragon Knight/Master" for Wyvern Rider/Lord, so it's weird to re-localize a class name that's basically English in the first place. What probably happened was someone made that choice during the localization of FE7 and it became convention from there on out.

RD and SD followed the original Japanese naming, but Awakening went back to calling them Wyverns probably because that's more recognizable to most English fans.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the change actually makes sense, because the Japanese text has two "dragon" words (one being the English loan word "dragon" and the other being the actual Japanese word for dragon) that are conceptually distinct. For example, FE7 has "dragons" that are the mounts for Dracoknights as well as "dragons" referred to in the plot e.g. the final boss. Translating them both to "dragon" in the English text would lead to confusion for English readers, so one of them had to change.

Wyverns are more like a subset of dragon rather than equivalent. I didn't realize RD went back to the original, but I was playing just imports by that point because of their prior history of changing game mechanics. Then again, the Japanese called the dragon lords in that game lindworms, which is also not anatomically correct.

For the DS games on, it's not really a problem, as the unit models are actually wyverns, but GBA through Gamecube eras, they were very much dragons. The GBA games were actually the only ones I extensively played in english which is why it imprinted on me so much, but now it's just kind of silly in retrospect.

Speaking of wyverns, I find it oddly inconsistent that they kept "Minerva" as the localized name for Cherche's wyvern in Awakening, but didn't do the same for Percy's wyvern, who is now "Ace" instead of Michel/Michalis.

Personally I like the name ace better. I think it fits better for the western image of percy.

For some reason I thought there was a thread somewhere about someone doing a conquest lunatic female only run but can't find it for the life of me.

What I was wondering was if 3 house clear on chapter 8 was feasible, as money is already ridiculously tight on my run right now. Not using any of the dlc items as they still seem too cheesy for me.

There's someone doing an LTC Conquest Girls Only run on Youtube but its on Hard, not Luna.

That run is also using DLC items to have an 8 mov unit early (Dark Flier Effie).

This reminds me. Clearly characters have set growth rates but how do class changes alter those rates if at all?

Each class has it's own bases, so class change is just the difference in bases. I'm not actually sure if class caps line up with base stats.

The growth rate for stats is character rate + class growth rate, so the change on reclassing is the difference between the class rates.

They don't. Some classes have more base/cap difference in certain stats than others. For example, Wyvern Lord has 6 base Spd and 29 cap, while Falcoknight has 10 base Spd and 34 cap. So it takes 23 Spd levels for Wyvern Lord to cap, but takes 24 for Falco to cap.

Usually they're pretty close though, even though they don't line up perfectly.

No, it "remembers" your higher stat value and you get it back when you reclass into something with a higher base-cap difference.

This also applies to statues raising and lowering unit stat caps as well. If you demolish a statue for a stat that someone has capped, the game still remembers that they had 1 more of that stat, so if you rebuild the statue, they get it back.

They're pretty irrelevant. You only get a handful of units to actually have statues, and most units don't really get anything useful out of them, since their stats that cap tend to be overkill anyway (i.e. Xander having 1 higher Def cap basically doesn't change anything because if he caps Def, nothing's going to hurt him anyway).

There are a few units where it potentially could make some difference (e.g. Niles statue raising Leo's Spd cap by 1) but that's so late in the game that it still has very little impact in the grand scheme of things.

I'd like to have the "Griffon Rider" class from Awakening back, tbh. It was fun, like a mounted, flying super Mercenary or Axe Paladin. :D
