That is both realistic and very awesome.
Also give Heros their gba animations while we are at it ^^

I think Conquest 8 is my favorite chapter in the game. There's plenty of threats and just so many ways to approach it, making it just fantastic for various challenge runs.
This female only run so far is pretty fun, with going almost broke despite selling almost everything and only having four heal staves left. Got the bottom three villages but didn't clear out the top right because I wanted the guard guage on Effie to reliably beat the Nosferatu vantage boss.

Messing around with some of the child paralogues on my Rev save, it's really striking to me how vastly different the map quality is between the shared paralogues and the route-specific ones. While the Conquest ones are a step up from Birthright's, even Birthright's make an attempt at doing some interesting things, with mixed results.
With the singular exception of Sophie's paralogue, all of the other shared child paralogues (Kana, Dwyer, Midori, Shigure) feel like someone designed it in half an hour, and nobody playtested it before shipping it out. Sophie's paralogue isn't anything special, but it at least makes a nominal effort, with meaningful side goals, mixed enemy composition, and multiple paths through the level.
In a way, this is kind of what bothers me most about Fates: the strange mix of things that are well-thought out and huge steps forward for the series along with those that feel like the developers weren't even trying and just threw it in. We got great maps like Conquest 10, but we also got total trainwrecks like Birthright 18. I want to say this is just the consequence of making 3 games in the same time you would normally have made one: a lot of low-quality filler ends up in the game mixed in with the good stuff. But Awakening was also kind of guilty of the same thing if you compare the difference between it's best and worst maps as well, so IDK.

I just skip shared paralogues now in Conquest. Not only are they boring, but they really screw with the balance of the route with how much exp they give you.

conquest map 12....
that moment after turn 16 finishes and you realize you totally misunderstood that you have to either escape or defeat the boss within 16 turns and not either run away in 16 or defeat the boss without a limit >_> And I would have totally made it in time had I not been too focused on getting all the treasure and defeating the reinforcements too
Yes, I am not a very smart person

Treasure isn't super hard, but getting those reinforcements can be. You'll get it second time

I think the wording of the chapter is a little ambiguous to be honest.

It's worded as "Escape in 16 Turns or Defeat Boss" when it would be clearer if it was written as "Escape or Defeat Boss in 16 turns".
That said, I mostly don't bother to stay around defeating reinforcements like that. Fates's XP curve is such that the returns on wasting time to overlevel are pretty low when the XP curve drops so harshly for being overleveled.
|
I find its pretty hard to find turns to deal with those reinforcements if you're trying to take out Ryouma too.
|
It's pretty easy to do so on Hard, but that's cuz the Hard version of the map is kind of a joke with the DV placement.

So Heirs of Fate was fun. Map 6 is exponentially easier from the second attempt onwards though.
Anyone interested in doing another Conquest draft?

From the outset, it was going to be hard for HoF 6 to be too difficult. The sheer number of good units the map gives you means its hard to make a challenge without it being ridiculously unfair. I'm ok with them erring on the side of the map being a bit too easy. As is, its already a better executed version of Rev endgame (more interesting things going on).
As for the whole pack, 5+6 are the stand out best maps, but 2 and 4 are also decent (1 and 3 suffer from using weak maps as their starting points, so there's a limit to how much they can improve). With the discount rate for the whole pack, I think it's a wothwhile pickup.
Honestly I'm ready to say that Hidden Truths + Heirs of Fate just supplant Revelation as the Fates story finale (and a better use of your $20 too). Together they do a better job of explaining Anankos and the IK than Rev does.

If nothing else, it'll give me an excuse to try this Sky Knight avatar -> Falcoknight Jakob stuff I heard about from Gwimpage.

For the US release, I waited a month then just bought Birthright from Amazon then Conquest/Rev as DLC. My 3DS has enough space left for it. I was pretty annoyed at the whole thing.

Edit: Japan? That sounds fun.

God I still haven't done my draft run. I haven't even started!
I feel like I let everyone down.
It was still fun to participate in the draft!
