We going to do this draft when Yango gets back from unicorn land? Because I'll tear into it after I finish FE8.
Seems like interested parties are: - Yango - chocorush (Is it wrong to capitalize the first letter?) - Cricketer12 - Cricketer12's friend (His name is possibly Timo?) - Myself
I feel like I'm going to get schooled in this draft. Like everyone is going to pick the best characters and I'll just end up with Dorcas. What's the stance on the arena for this draft pick? Up to the user? Also which mode? I'm going to have to do this on Lyn mode -> Eliwood normal.

Yango and choco seem to be thinking Hector hard mode based on Yango mentioning matthew on chap 11 and choco mentioning valks on cog. My friend isnt interested in FE7. He's just a Fates weeb.
Personally since I'll be doing this on my phone I'll prob do Eliwood Hard mode as I have yet to unlock hector hard on my phone

We have to play the same mode due to variable recruitment (e.g. Farina isn't available in Eliwood mode) but we can play different difficulties.

So Hector mode then, for Karla and Farina? The only problem is that I feel Hector normal vs Hector hard is a much larger difference than Eliwood normal vs hard. So as long as we ok with that, lets just do Lyn -> Hector and let people decide if they want to do normal or hard? Which is essentially what you are saying Yango, so this is a long winded way of me saying "ok that makes sense".

I can pass on this draft, since I'm pretty busy right now. I don't have an actual cartridge for the game either so in some ways it's even harder for me to play it. Looks like you've got more than enough people interested

It looked like you had 4, 5 including me.
Looking at the roster, I forgot just how many characters there were in the game, so it wouldn't be that bad with 5, especially if everyone gets Marcus.

I haven't unlocked Hector mode (I'm going to be playing this on emulator) so I'm more or less restricted to Eliwood mode if I want to have this done in a timely fashion.
That said, I could probably very easily snag a save file from the internet, so this might be much less of a problem than I'd think.
And I think with three people, assuming the rules that Yango threw out, there would be ~11 characters (I think I counted 35 in total) for each of us to choose, excluding freebies. (Dancers, Lords, Marcus and Athos) So excluding Athos, we'd have like a party of 16.
Throw in those characters and then we have like 41 characters, though we need to remember that on any given route you can't get every character.

As a mode, I like Hector normal more than Eliwood hard, so you wouldn't miss out that much if you choose Hector normal.
HHM as a dry run might be pretty crazy on a limited cast if you haven't done it before... Luna druids are pretty fun.

3 is kind of weird, especially given the constant double picks. 4 or 5 is preferable.
|
So does anyone else want to join in? Kipsate, you need something to distract you while you search for a special edition?
|
I don't remember much about Hector hardmode other than that it was a massive pain in the ass.
|
HHM is actually not too bad. For a highest-difficulty-mode in an FE game, it's one of the fairer ones, and unranked HHM is easier than most highest-difficulty-modes in other FE games. 3/4/8/BR/Rev are the only ones with definitely easier highest difficulties. FE9 western Hard Mode is a lot easier, but I've never played JP Maniac Mode, so I'm not sure where FE9 falls as a whole. Awakening L is easier due to how easy it is to trivialize, but L+ is a lot harder, so where that falls depends on whether you consider L+ to be a real difficulty.
HHM ranked is significantly harder, but that's in part due to the ridiculous rank requirements that I am not a fan of.
|
FE9 Maniac is a little bit easier than FE7 HHM, but is a really fair level. It solves the bonus exp problem, but the power spike when your paladins start getting Sol and Ike gets Aether is so real that it's still really silly.
FE7 HHM always strikes me as unfair, because capped Druids with Luna are just straight up unfair. Might be interesting to revisit it, as I'd probably just skip a lot more.
|
HHM definitely does unfair stuff, its just that most of the harder games do MORE unfair stuff on their highest difficulties.
|
I'm a glass half empty kind of guy when half of the games are easier, lol.
|
Fair enough.
I guess I was more looking at it as a matter of degrees, since the difference between FE7 HHM and one of the easier games (e.g. FE8 Difficult) is a lot less than difference between it and the harder games (Awakening L+, SD H5, New Mystery Reverse Luna). Most of those really difficult modes I find totally unfun to play given how stacked they need to be against you.
|
Totally. I haven't actually beaten any of those because I didn't like the games enough to put up with them. 11 and 12 I haven't even finish a normal run, and Awakening's L+ I rage quit when they started throwing Aegis+ at yoiu.

Ok, I'm finally going to buckle down and dedicate some time to this game as well as Awakening. I've been saving them mostly for traveling during work trips since I've never been able to get super comfortable with the 3DS around the house, but I'm in such a mood to play a game like these lately that I'm gonna figure out a way dammit. I'm like 10-15 hours into Awakening and maybe just 2-3 into Fates. I'll probably finish Awakening before fully diving into the 3 campaigns of Fates.
I've glanced at this thread now and then and I'm really intrigued by all the discussion of mechanics I'm totally naive to. I'm familiar enough with the basics and am a big fan of similar titles, but I've ignored some of the more subtle aspects, namely the specifics behind Pairing Up (pros and cons and any differences between Awakening and Fates) and reclassing (who to reclass, to what, and why, etc). Any searching around gives me somewhat vague threads on sites like GameFAQs.
So, at the risk of sounding lazy, anyone willing to treat me like an idiot and spit your favorite tips-for-people-that-understand-the-basics-but-just-camp-like-a-bitch-on-every-map-and-dont-do-anything-complicated-beyond-forwarding-the-story?
