Oh and since I didn't mention it earlier. HoF 4 might be my favorite map. But that's probably only because I'm bad and figuring out how to beat Kana felt good.

I could get behind a FE7 draft.

My only concern is that I might not get Oswin! Though I think if we did a FE7 draft we should set some ground rules. Like are Lords okay to use? Etc.

Typically all 3 lords + Marcus are free in an FE7 draft. There are enough chapters where the lords are forced deploy that not making them free is annoying and Marcus is powerful enough in an efficiency context that were he not free, he'd be automatic first pick anyway.

FE7 draft sounds pretty brutal. Kent/Sain is instalock first pick probably if you're try harding. I wouldn't want to play without serra or priscilla because no staff bot for a really long time afterwards unless you early promote one of the mages.

Matthew I usually use a lot, but can't for the life of me remember if he'd be that useful in a low man run.

Its actually more flexible than it first appears because free Marcus gives you a lot of breathing room early game. As long as you don't pick a team that's downright awful, you can get by. The prepromote quality is relatively high in FE7, so it's pretty reasonable to end with a usable lategame team, and you can bank on Marcus till you get full recruitment.

Kent/Sain firstpick just gets silly because feeding one unit the entirety of Lyn mode gets them to around lvl 17 or something, and then you give them Wallace's Knight Crest and the 2 boosters and they can basically solo the midgame.

Even if you don't turbo charge them to 17, having a second paladin is so much better than not having a second horse.

I mean, there's also Florina, who also has great combat with Lyn mode favoritism, it's just that she can't go into Hector Mode already promoted and has to wait for the first Whip.

How many people would we need for a FE7 draft?

It'd be fun to witness you guys tearing each other apart for the cavaliers and other mounted units.

Also would we be able to use Matthew for the purposes of lockpicking/stealing, or would we have to draft him?

Matthew isn't really useful if you can't level him to keep his speed stat up. Walking 15 use lock pick I guess, but you wouldn't be able to steal any more.

Personally i would like to keep Matthew free, as well as Nils/Ninian. With the lords and Marcus free there are 37 draftable units.

Interestingly many of my go to characters have not been mentioned.

I have never done a FE7 draft but I assume 4-6 people is recommended.

Lords, dancers, Merlinus, and Athos are free. Marcus is either free or banned (game is significantly harder if he's banned). Bartre+Karla and Geitz+Wallace are drafted as pairs.

Matthew is free for ch11, everyone is free for Lyn Mode and 13x, and Lyn/Kent/Sain/Wil are free for ch16.

Rules on undrafted thieves vary, though its generally agreed that stealing promotion items is acceptable, and that stealing anything else requires you to draft the unit. Lockpicking isn't strictly necessary since you can manage keys to get all the important chests, but if people find that too annoying, I'm fine with allowing undrafted thieves to pick locks.

Hmm, what about the member card? I think I'm kind of fine with thieves being locked to the drafter, since it's a purely utility pick as you're not getting them for the promotion.

Personally I'm indifferent towards member card. I'm okay with thieves being draftable as well.

Member Card requires picking a thief.

Its sort of a weird dance where you need to restrict enough things so that the thieves are worth picking, but not so much that they warp the draft around them. I think the default rules for them are fine but people might find managing keys to be annoying. I don't think it makes much of a difference.

Could you theoretically recruit Legault and have him steal the card assuming he has enough speed? It should be possible if you pick up the sleep staff from the pirate gaiden.

Only reason I'm thinking about member card is for a barrier staff on cog of destiny. It's been such a long time since I've played it though so maybe there's a better way to play it than somehow tank all those valkyries.

Personally, I try and let my magic users (lucius in particular) do all the work on cog. I just have serra/pent sit in the middle with restore staves
