Yeah I was pretty disappointed to discover that after finishing Awakening and switching to Fates.

Speaking of, as an update, I got through Awakening and really got a good feel for how all the mechanics I never understood worked thanks to advice from you all and a lot of experimentation. I enjoyed it a lot and would probably be giving the game a few more passes on higher difficulties and trying different things, if I didn't have Fates to move on to.

Started BR at the end of last week. It's more different than I expected honestly, but not in a bad way. I probably picked up some bad habits from Awakening by getting so used to almost always pairing up. I'm trying to avoid just turtling and actually have a bit of fun with it and it requires a bit more foresight, I'm enjoying it.

Still getting used to the extremely depreciated XP gains if a character is higher level than the enemies. Incentivizes me to spread the wealth and feed my weakest characters the kills, but that also ends up being risky sometimes if I overextend lol...

BR puts all the Fates mechanical changes on display but it still fundamentally plays like Awakening in a lot of ways (enemy phase focus, pair-up dominance, frequent rout objective, simple map design, etc.). It's Conquest that really takes the gloves off and breaks your bad habits.

I've heard this said so many times in this thread that it's definitely become my biggest motivation for finishing BR as soon as possible.

If people are still interested in the FE7 draft, I'm still up for that. I started replaying FE6 in the meantime, but should be able to finish it by the time we'd actually be able to kick off the draft, lol.

yea I'm still up for it...I keep trying to get into FE6 but for whatever reason I'm finding it a lot less enjoyable than FE7

FE6 has a lot of ups and downs. It has some really great maps, but also some really terrible ones. And in general there are things that make the game feel a lot less reliable due to low accuracy issues (huge throne avoid bonus, enemies having a real Luck stat, etc.).

It has a rather difficult hard mode, but also one that I'm not a huge fan of due to it being *heavily* based on stat inflation for difficulty increase. Also some really questionable unit balance thanks to how hard mode bases work.

As far as homebrew goes, now is the first time in a while we have an easily accessible primary entrypoint (i.e. one that doesn't require Cubic Ninja), so now's pretty much the easiest time to get homebrew.

EDIT: Nevermind, Nintendo already took SmileBASIC off the eShop.

Still down for FE7. Working on an fe3 run myself off and on, but the interface just makes it feel really tedious.

I know Frudgey's still up for it, so if we want to do it with 4, we can.

With a 5 person draft, there are 35 picks so everyone gets exactly 7 picks. With 4, you toss out Geitz/Wallace (they're frequently omitted), and make the last 2 units a split pick (basically we as a group decide which character everyone gets), so everyone gets 8 picks + the split pick.

Conquest forces you to break some bad habits, but if you're as stubborn as I am, some other bad habits you may have might not actually get broken haha.

But yes, would totally love to do a FE7 draft!

Jaffar's a pretty low pick anyway due to how late he joins.

Anyway, seeing as we're likely to be doing this with 4, I'll post the rules below. 3. Gaiden Chapters may be visited at the player's discretion and are not required to be visited.
4. NPC units may do as they please without penalty.
5. Matthew may be deployed and freely open locks. Thieves may not steal unless drafted.
6. Use of the Enemy Control Glitch is allowed.

Exceptions:
1. All units are free for Lyn Mode.
2. Matthew is free for Chapter 11.
3. Meatshielding is allowed for Chapter 13x.
4. Lyn, Kent, Sain and Wil are free for Chapter 16.
5. Thieves may steal necessary Promotion items if the player requires one.
