Once you know how everything works, it's possible to make pretty much anything work as long as you don't stack up too much on bad things. That being said, you can do so much more things with dancers than having a random extra combat unit or pair up fodder, so I can't imagine playing without Aqua lol.
I like Effie paired with Niles as well, because Niles benefits so much from +Str +Def. +1 Mov +3 Spd for Effie is pretty good too. Belka is similar, but her pair up boosts aren't as good, and she's much less self sufficient depending on your deployment situation.
The main advantage of arthur pair up is that Percy is really good given how early you can get it with that pairing.

You can have 5 Wyverns by chapter 11 by going Wyvern Avatar, marrying Jakob (partner seal to Wyvern Lord), and recruiting Percy. It's pretty silly.
Sadly, Avatar!Dwyer gets Nohr Prince and not her secondary, so you can't get that 6th Wyvern. Otherwise, MK Dwyer could actually be pretty good given his mixed stat spread (and potentially Tome rank if you recruit him late).

Without really knowing what resources he has, it's probable that he doesn't have paladin Jakob or promoted Elise/Nyx. Maybe he hasn't second sealed avatar either, but at this point it's too late to do any of those things unless Elise/Nyx are already level 10. If that's the case, the only real thing you can do is just use Camila more aggressively in player phase, which is perfectly fine to do.
The only other thing that's really useful to know for all comps is that freeze is a useful staff to use and you shouldn't try too hard to save them up, and that Jakob's personal skill can help the avatar tank a lot of stuff. Dragonstone is also magic damage not physical in this game.

Also worth noting is that Camilla doesn't join with an Iron Axe, but can ORKO Oboro if she's traded one or a Speed Tonic.
Tonics are in general one of the best ways to boost a team's effectiveness.

I'm glad this discussion came up because Conquest (hard) is kicking my ass as expected and I'm gleaning as many little tidbits as I can from this thread lately.
By kicking my ass I mean Ch7 took a few tries despite its simplicity and Ch8 is being even funnier. I feel like I'm totally missing something or don't know how to play correctly. Those ol' bad habits that everyone mentioned I guess.
And I'm not even that frustrated. I might be if I went in blind but this thread had me mentally prepped enough to know it'd be different. It's exciting really, because there must be a ton left to learn and I don't mind challenging either. It just happened much quicker than I expected lol

I finished up Conquest (hard) after playing it for months with game time 100+ hours lol
The funny thing is that there are several times that I almost finished a chapter after a lot of planning and I messed up by forgetting something stupid like Entrap, Beast Killer, Countermagic, etc.

Are Cavalry>Great Knights any good with the new Axe Triangle? I used Paladins all the way in Awakening.

Playing it blind is a fun experience.

Great Knights aren't bad. Paladin is still going to be better in general because of +1 Mov and more balanced stats. With Defender, the stats aren't that different in the ones that matter, and the potential difference in damage with Luna and extra strength don't end up really mattering.
I usually make one of the child cavs a great knight just for some variety since everyone else goes Paladin for most of the time, but it never seems to be a difference maker.
It's more notable in the armor knight line because of the large difference in movement there.

Make sure you shoot for getting the full reward for getting 3 houses on Ch. 8. It might seem like a pain, but having the extra money really helps for Ch. 10.

It's more notable in the armor knight line because of the large difference in movement there. Basically these are the two scenarios where GK is potentially useful. The first-gen Cavs can't take advantage of GK's weapon triangle control because starting with E axes that late makes it really hard to use the axe rank (even more so than in Awakening, since weapon ranks build slower and Discipline is no longer a skill). Additionally, most of them have low Speed, and don't want to take the speed hit from being in a slower class. Children can get the automatic bump to D rank from the Offspring Seal late, which makes the Axe rank more useful. Both Cav kids do ultimately want to be in a different class though.
Likewise, since Effie can't promote to Paladin by default, GK is still better than General. If she gets access to Paladin, it'd probably be better, but pairing her with Silas isn't particularly good for either of them so it's not really worth it.

Alright next chapters seem to be going alright, currently on Chapter 13, was going well until my Camilla got 100-ed critted and I ragequit, Flame Shuriken on Felicia is suprisingly strong.
Not that many unit slots to use though rip.

If you got through Chapter 10, the entire 11-16 stretch should be fine. 17 is the next map that's potentially non-straightforward.
Finished the desert map in my draft. Not fun with my team. Didn't get the Gaiden, but that's to be expected.

Chapter 13 is surprisingly annoying right now because I have a stupid string of RN's leading to misses in the beginning, but I need to rush it so I can prevent the bandits from pillaging the NW village.

I stopped playing on the Sakura chapter, I forget the number. I just couldn't deal with the last wave of reinforcements without losing at least 1 person, especially the casters.

Yeah, I do get to Yukimura, but that leaves my MC and Effie exposed to the 3 caster reinforcements that just rush them. My 2 archers are on the other side pinned down by the other mechanist and nobody can really handle taking more than 1 hit from the casters on the left side.
I CAN kill him, but it requires me hitting a 40% and the 3 times I've gotten to that point I've missed it.
