Bridal banner seems like crap, is there anything about any of the units that is actually desirable or can I skip it?
Can someone please explain/how water falls with no rain?

Pretty much this. If you don't have a solid enough dread fighter Alm should be able to pull it off with Twin Lions.

I must have a disability, the grieth citadel and bow fort gave me zero trouble but I had some one die @ sonya's level. Don't really understand how you are supposed to survive an attack from her, excalibur does a billion damage

oh and saber is broken, basically a super unit.

I didnt do Sonya's map (I did other guy in north desert).

And yeah my Saber is imba. He can probably solo most maps without breaking a sweat atm.

Bow Fort and Grieth's fort aren't particularly hard (nothing in the game really is), it's just they're excruciatingly slow, owing to the fact that it takes an insane # of turns to even get to the enemies through such a large number of desert tiles.

Saber is pretty easily the best unit on Celica's side. Palla can get there too, but she joins so much later and still needs time to grow a bit. Saber just kicks ass from his join.

The Deen/Sonya choice is decently balanced--Deen is a better unit (3rd Dreadfighter vs. 3rd Mage at a point in the game where mages are starting to fall off in usefulness and your Dreadfighters should be promoting), but is also much more annoying to recruit because Sonya's map is way more annoying to do. Sonya's map is basically a glorious combination of awful desert movement and completely random witch AI.

For me it's no contest. Sonya is the way to go. Boey will do next to no B.Magic at this point and Mae dies to farts. With Magic Ring you get 4 range Excalibur which is just hilarious.

On the other hand both Saber and Kamui are excellent and with Deen's brave sword Jesse doesnt need too much time to catch up either

I was counting Celica, not Boey.

Jesse stands in for Deen just fine if you don't get Deen, but he's still a lot worse. Mages just don't do a whole lot in Ch. 4 if they don't have Physic, regardless of their stats, so there's really no real upside to having an extra one. Honestly I barely even used Mae once I got into chapter 4 because you simply can't put up with a unit that only moves 2 spaces per turn in swamps on maps where Cantors are constantly spawning enemies.

Celica and Genny are good enough for handling high-Def Great Terrors and nothing else really demands the use of mages.

my boey sniper experiment actually went really well, hes now balanced on both res and defense and he leveled up unusually high def so hes like this tanky sniper thing now

I didn't get leon and kamui/valbar both died for me so that completes the death of that trio. those 2 were incredibly useless anyways so no big loss

Kamui should only be a little behind Saber if he's given appropriate investment. His starting bases are actually worse than Mercenary bases, but that problem goes away once you promote him.

Most Dreadfighters don't actually deviate that much in performance because the class's own bases are so good. The main differentiator is their base level/availability which is why Saber is the best, but Kamui's still right behind him.

So...uh...are you supposed to grind a ton in this game? Because I feel like some of the maps you run up against require you to have been grinding to beat. SEE: Sluice Gate and Temple of Milla.

Not sure why everyone has so much trouble with sluice gate. Move everyone forward except healer(s). This prompts delthea to warp behind you. Your healer tanks aura. Alm Mercy's Delthea. Warp alm or a dread fighter to ORKO Tahtarrah.

As for temple of milla that is a bit challenging if you didnt invest in the whitewings or Leon. Leon in particular really makes a joke of the map. Kill Mikhail from a safe distance then deal with the snipers and arcanists...

TL;DR: you don't need to grind at all honestly. But if you didn't train certain units the end of act 3 will shit all over you.

I didn't grind any and didn't run into issues with either map. Sluice was very easy as Delthea warped on turn 1 to almost kill one of my guys, but I found a way to hit her to 2 hp (I honestly forgot about Alm's ability entirely). Rest of the map I just had my tanky res guys up front and was straight forward.

Temple was so insanely slow for me. I didn't have a way to kill the leader asap so it was just a slow grind until a good turn where he only spawned 2-3 guys instead of 8 every turn lol. Once he died though it was pretty easy.

well he's right in that sluice gate is a gimmick map. My alm did not know subdue so I had no fucking idea what I was supposed to do.

My biggest problem with this fire emblem is a lot of the maps are based on gimmicks that you need to know ahead of time, playing this game blind is not particularly fun. Besides that its a pretty good fire emblem though.

Temple of mila no idea though, that map is super straightforward. I didn't even get leon and it was a joke due to saber being a DF, i just had him kill literally everything with physic support while everyone else killed infinite gargoyles with mae/celica healing

There's enough fights between Desaix' Fortress and the Sluice Gate that you'd have to deliberately not use the Royal Sword (or deliberately not use Alm) to not have Subdue in time for it. And even if you don't have it, you could do the good old fashioned warp-1RKO on Tatarrah. If you chain Warp and Rescue you should be able to get Alm or Gray to her on the 2nd turn, so as long as you don't deploy any units that Delthea ORKOs, you're fine.

Temple is kind of a slow grind and kind of RNG-dependent by virtue of random Cantor spawns on heal tiles in an enclosed space, but not terribly difficult. Note that you can use Mila's Turnwheel to rig Cantor spawns.

who is supposed to get rescue on alm's side? I had warp in time for that map but im in act 4 now and still no rescue.
