I'd say FE7 is more where the storytelling falls flat--since the times it tries to be serious have this weird narrative dissonance with how upbeat and positive most of the characters are most of the time. FE8 does a better job in that regard of meshing upbeat characters with a serious story. In regards to FE8 in particular, it's interesting how you have a rather colorful cast, with characters like Colm/Neimi, L'arachel etc, but they are balanced out by the madness of Valter and Orson, as well as Duessel's Lorenz complex

I mean I think FE4/FE5 are darker, but I think for FE8 you could play it and be like "whoa". This could be full on bias on my part. And yeah there were some pretty upbeat characters (LOOKING AT YOU ROSS), but there were some much more subdued characters, like Lyon and my boy Gilliam. I thought it was appropriate, but again, I think I'm pretty heavily biased haha.

I think what makes fe8 so dark is as others have already said, just how upbeat and happy some of the recruitable characters are, they always seem so happy compared to what is actually going on in the story.

Joshua probably being the most popular example of this.

actually tbh now that SI is out, I wouldn't recommend upgrading castle right away, at the very least until after this current banner is over. The current banner is by far the best banner that they've ever released.

Lucina 40+10 with no Assist, is this a hacker? Stupid builds i dont have a reason for, but taking away the assist on ur defense team is quite reasonable as the ai can never use them properly someone with pivot, respostion, smite which was normally super good when a player is controlling them can sometimes screw over ur defense with ur units pushing another out into the open and ahead of the rest. Or even get stuck in a loop or swap/buff. It could be a hacker but theres no doubt a ton of whales in this game. As for reaching high rank iirc the calculations for ur score or range that ur team is vsing score wise has been released, with legenxary weapons giving moe points 5stars ofc lvl 40 ofc no dancer or healer as they lower ur score every skill also gives points as well as their lvl learned. But this might all be for nothing as arena is getting upgraded in a couple of days

On the whole the game's difficulty is overhyped. If you beat Conquest Lunatic, you should be fine. Been busy with moving so my current run is stopped at chapter 10 atm (which I usually warpskip, I just need to refresh my memory on which items I need to get during the 1-2 turns setting up the skip). EDIT: Also, you might have known this already, but there's 1 Gaiden chapter later that requires you have at least 1 person captured to unlock. I usually ditch Dalshin at the end of chapter 5 for this because while he's helpful for 4x/5, he starts to become a liability in chapters 6 and 7 because you're on outdoor maps again.

It's really not that bad if you train Leif, it's just a lot of people kind of spread their XP a bit thin on the early-joiners rather than showing Leif the favoritism he deserves. If you put up with 4/4x/5 you should be okay for a while, just don't be afraid to warpskip maps that look super bullshit. Other than that, it's just putting up with the deployment slots issue I mentioned before and remembering to bring a shitton of door keys for endgame. On the whole the game's difficulty is overhyped. So far Manster hasn't seemed that awful by any means. 4 although time consuming wasn't that bad because Leaf's light sword is a god send. Fergus + Brighton with a Steel sword was enough to deal with the opening wave of 4x. About to deal with the mage squad on 5. My units are in the corridor by the arena and although I did unlock the zerk and galzus mareeta is blocking them off. Currently Leaf is lvl 9 only, I fear I may have focused too much of Brighton Macua and Fergus, and while I can see myself using the later 2, the brighton investment was a mistake.
