Even more, I think Firaxis are wayy over their heads, to set that price for a game that won't be out until next year, and people are dropping $ on it without even seeing the full amount of content in the game

But I guess they saw EU and EW was such a success they might as well get in with the big boys like Blizzard, and test the pre-purchase market. Really sucks, I like to give this game a go but not at that price

Are you kidding me? Of course it's a AAA game, it's one of the best turn-based strategy came to come out in the last few years.

Pre-orders and $60 USD games have been around for over a decade, if you're still not used to it that's your own problem.

You're bitching about things that don't make sense to anyone who knows anything about gaming in the last 15 years.

That's your opinion... and what does your second statement have to do with the first? Come to think of it, I'm reading what you just wrote again and you're implying you know exactly what XCOM2 will be like strictly off previews and your assumptions on EU and EW gameplay. Yes let's blindly throw a lot of $ on a game that could be totally different and worst off than its pre-decesor, that won't even be released until 5 months down the line... without seeing more to it

Uh huh. You make it sound like I've lived under a rock because well you know, I never paid $60+ (CAD) for games like FFXIII, FFXIII-LR, and Zelda Skyward Sword the day of release.

My own problem? Sure ok cuz that makes a lot of sense to tell me that

Don't know what your problem is. You're taking offense for me bashing Firaxis and firing back at me in such a way as if I told everyone they're stupid for pre-purchasing this game at that price right now, which I never directly stated or implied

Go ahead and buy the game it is your money at the end of the day. But if you think I am wrong, and am the vocal minority on all of this, then go read the "Pre-order price discussion" thread on Steam about this http://steamcommunity.com/app/268500/discussions/0/523897023727794196/ , and see that it is actually an issue

The issue is currency pricing being "wrong". I am not really knowledgeable into the specifics of selling under different currencies and pricings, so i won't give an opinion about if it's wrong or not. The discussion there seems to have nothing to do with preoders perse, but i read just the first page and gave up, maybe you can give me some insight on the subject.

Anyways, i am paying Firaxis because i know, for sure, it is a game that i will enjoy, maybe it's below my expectations but i had been playing games for 25 years already, and i know what i do like. It's not like they are trying to put on revolution XCOM. And the pricing is my case is standard game price for almost a decade, so i got nothing to complaint about it, except if i want a sale.

And about AAA titles are about budget and promotion, not about "being a classic". And yes, there are standards to be achieved to be qualified as an AAA.

i bet they use the same graphics. all the changes could be easily made with an expansion. no way i will pay the full price again for half a new game

AAA refers to the publisher and and to a lesser extend the developer of the game. the opposite of an AAA title is an indie game and xcom surely is non of those.

either you got lucky and found good deals for those games or you have bad memory. after a quick google search, ff13 went on retail for 100$ in japan and the preoder price of ff15 is 49£ which converts to 75$. im fairly certain that ff13 was in the same price range at release.

60$ really isnt uncommon for a game at all.

oh and this is still cheap compared to what video games used to cost. super mario bros at launch in 1987 was tagged as 59$, which is well over 100$ in todays money taken inflation into account.

If we're talking in the past 10 years I feel like PC games almost always been $50 USD, then it became something of a trend for really big games like CoD, GTA etc to match console prices and charge $60.

In any event it's somehow $80 in Canada and it's not unusual to see games at $70+ now that they charge in CAD, which I'll never pay

!!X-Com 1 Spoilers ahead!!

Do the DLCs change the story of XCOM EU? I only played the basic game and I thought the aliens got defeated. Does X-Com 2 take place in an alternate timeline or was it just not enough to blow up that big ship?

Apparently, the canon ending of XCOM is the ending where you game over.

The XCOM1 storyline gets thrown out of the window with this game; the new canon is that Earth was defeated and beaten into submission and now aliens are our masters while what's left of XCOM is now pewpewing guerilla-style.

It takes the most common ending to XCOM campaigns which is you lost. It´s kind of a bold move but it also means you successful campaigns in XCOM don´t get devalued and you get to "salvage" your lost campaigns.

You must be a young guy who only started buying games with his own money when the Canadian dollar was stronger than the US dollar a few years ago. It's hovering around 75 cents right now. Multiple people already mentioned that you are paying the equivalent of $60 USD.

Yea cuz you know the CAD was never crap back then as well when I also paid for games like FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, and FFX out of my own pocket while still a student...

Aside from the how dumb games only have been based off USD, tell me really a PC game that is worth $80 CAD. That... is really the big issue everyone on that Steam thread is talking about

Is worth $80CAD as long as enough people are willing to pay $80CAD for it, thats how the (monetary) worth of something is determined^^

If you like it is really a non issue.

Just play something else until it will be at least 50%off on steam (in less than a year at some sale)
If you want a new thing right when it comes out, you pay a lot for it.

AAA games simply refer to production value. so yes, xcom 2 is one.

Some high profile Xcom youtubers got their hands on a playable demo, lot's of gameplay footage got released. Game looks sweet and the xcom bullshit is still here, rejoice! (nasty activation, shooting trough walls and doors, ect)

im not sure you could count Xcom 2 as a "super high production value" in the same tier as Mass Effect, Assasins Creed, etc... not even close
