http://xcom.com/news/xcom-2-now-coming-to-pc-worldwide-on-february-5-2016

Hello XCOM fans,

We want to give you an update on the release date for XCOM 2. We’ve set a high bar for the sequel and the entire team has been working hard to make sure we deliver a great follow-up to Enemy Unknown. We just need a little more time to make it the best possible game.

With XCOM 2, we want to have more depth, more replayability, and more investment in your soldiers and this extension will give us the time we need to deliver on our promise to you.

We appreciate your patience and continued support as we move towards February. Good luck, Commander!

-The XCOM 2 Dev Team

I know it's a bit of old news, but I didn't see any discussion about it here, so yeah. The game has been delayed until February 5th. Which I guess makes sense, given the titles that are releasing this November and how little time there was between the announcement and the intended release date. It'll be nice to see them put in a little bit of extra work to make the game more polished.

Hopefully we don't have to deal with teleporting alien pods this time around!

Oh god, that one graveyard map. Everything was going so well, then suddenly 3 groups of mutons activate behind you and wipe out all but one of your guys in 1 turn. Still have PTSD about that bug...hopefully it's fixed in XCOM2. Also hopefully LoS isn't wonky as all hell (or at least represented so we know when we're going to alert a pack of aliens from 4 screens away behind a wall.)

This was the most fun i had in a game for a while , so much nostalgic memories to the turn base world.... i wonder if HOMM is any good (the new ones) , i tried the latest as soon as it came out and it was SO buggy i couldn't play it anymore....
day 1 buy for me if i see a bug free review.... i hate to buy games that are buggy because i play them anyway and quit in the middle to never return.

There are some good games in the turn based world nowadays. I never got into the HOMM series when I was younger and it was pretty much eclipsed by other series like Age of Wonders when I got into the genre. Endless Space and Legend are good. Xenonauts is an X-Com clone that is closer to the original in terms of gameplay. Recent years have seen a bit of a revival in the genre.

The King's Bounty games are pretty good HoMM style games (albeit w/o the castle building and with more hero RPG mechanics). I've also been playing the Shadowrun Returns games as good Turn-based games. I hear decent things about Xenonauts but have yet to play it yet. Regardless, I still haven't finished a Long War, so I've got enough to tide me over till February.

Well thats where dynamic reinforcement comes in. I guess its easy to jump on aliens in the field, before they notice you (As in as long as you stay behin cover you are not seen). But a few rounds after alerted troops will drop anywhere on the map.

+ Show Spoiler [Heroes stuff] +
Depends, have you played HoMM 5? I liked the faction/unit diversity with Tribes of the East (last expansion). It felt quite a bit like HoMM 3, but a bit more annoying with animations, more random skills (basically it was "spin the wheel to see what you get", very hard to plan out a build, no might/magic division of heroes until last Xpack and overall with less replayability due to AI and maps. Also the towns were fucked up royally. They kept spinning, showing some wierd ass building from a WTF angle or very often nothing at all.

HoMM 6 was a different, ahem, train wreck. Although the new faction Sanctuary was introduced, which I thought was pretty original, the gameplay was dumbed down considerably. Resources went from 7 to 4. Factions were also essentially cut in half. Gameplay revolved around a faction's identity much more than in previous games. Haven/Castle was super defensive, Inferno was hyper aggressive etc. some weird ass division into neutral/offense/defense and into might/magic (so 6 hero classes overall). Good part was the castle inner-view went back to a panoramic frontal overview like HoMM 3.
Felt a bit incomplete overall.

now HoMM 7, from what I saw is taking the town view back to HoMM 2 style. The adventure map seems unchanged from 5-6, maybe with a few improvements, but resources are back to a normal amount. Hero division is back to just might/magic, but heroes have restriction on what type of magic they can learn. Creatures have some kind of arbitrary tier division now assigned to them and you'll have to make choices what to recruit a la heroes 4. Also there are 6 creatures now, 2 in each division, no 7th rank. Again, like in HoMM6 a few "core" factions are missing *cough*Inferno*cough*. Beta had really bad FPS problems for my friend and lag spikes were often. The campaign might be heavily scripted and punish you heavily if you deviate from your goal (feels like you have to accomplish X before month Y or you get facerolled by a death blob army that pops from the edge of the map...

Also I'd like to take the time to say, fuck Uplay.

Xcom was awesome, since this was delayed I might get the Long War mod every1 is talking about. I also think the delay might be a good thing. I hate seeing stuff rushed out incomplete just to hit a time window or please investors.

I'm talking about on turn 2 having 2 groups of mutons coming out of my spawn, with one spawning 4 squares from my sniper.

It happened twice.

$80 CAD to pre-purchase the game and likely the full opening day price...

Well looks like I'm waiting till at least Steam Summer Sale 2016 for this game... jesus christ are you kidding me with this price? I had no hesitation getting EU and EW on the 1st day of their release despite not knowing what I was getting, as I thought their price was reasonable, but the price for this game is just absurd unless they have a crap load of content that will last for A LONG time

It's the standard USD $60 price converted to CAD. Remember, the Canadian Dollar's gone to shit.

Yeah, I don't think you can blame China's slowdown wrecking all sorts of currencies worldwide on the game developers. The price is likely even more scary in AUD.

50 Euros here, ive only bought a single game for 50 euros in the past few years and thats Witcher 3

ill add this to that count. Because I know that I will spend a lot of hours on this game.

all games prices are just gonna keep going higher, and honestly i doubt currency really has anything to do with it. game developers just know they can get away with higher pricing

I blame consoles. People are fine with paying console game prices, which are generally higher then pc, so developers up the price on PC.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

Hmm, 50€ sounds quite standard to me. Sales can change that price, but that's ussually the price for games.

prices went up for my region because euro dropped a little. Atleast thats where the last 10 euro extra came from. The more shitty thing that happened was when we changed from the old currency to euro. But games weren't the only area affected ... oh well everyone went on strike to get more loan and everything evened out. Still dumb.

50 euros is actually lower then what I am used to, 60 euros used to be the norm for CoD/Assasins creed or other AAA games, PC versions are usually priced at 50 and console at 60.

Didn't really expect XCom to be 50 since it doesn't have a huge CGI/Graphics things that a lot of AAA games have but ill pay it since its just going to be a straight up good game I think. 50 Euros is a lil higher for this standard of game but overall still fine.

The price is literally $60 USD, the standard price for a AAA game. It converts to $79.58 CAD with today's exchange rate. This isn't rocket science.

If anything, it's more amazing that the price of games has remained relatively constant over the past decade despite the increase of development budgets.

Is it really a "AAA game"... if by AAA game you mean the equivalent likes of The Legend of Zelda, and Final Fantasy (two of my favourite series)? I don't think I can classify the X-COM series to be in the same level as those I listed or other big series titles that have existed over the years. Even more, I think Firaxis are wayy over their heads, to set that price for a game that won't be out until next year, and people are dropping $ on it without even seeing the full amount of content in the game

But I guess they saw EU and EW was such a success they might as well get in with the big boys like Blizzard, and test the pre-purchase market. Really sucks, I like to give this game a go but not at that price
