day1 dlc in a game series know for its buggyness to make people go for preorders ? Only one answer, wait for a sale after release. Unless they actually allow reviews before release and those are good x3.

This in house let's play is pretty good and has me more interested in the game. And the most important part is it is just someone trying to figure out the game.

That actually looked really, really fun.

I don't really worry about the bugs at release, as a wargamer my whole life this kind of games are dreams come true. The only thing that annoys me is that GW makes money out of this, but well, the enjoyment i will be able to get playing with old friends with whom i can't play wargames anymore due to distance is good enough.

I have always loved Warhammer and its over the top, I want to be a heavy metal cover all the time, sense of style. The total war games have been hit or miss, depending on the year. But the majority have served me well. I get that people don’t like DLC races, but that is the nature of Warhammer and their wildly armies, requiring their own magic, sounds, VO and animation.

Give Wood Elves. No high elves, just wood elves.

No, its not because of sounds and animations. Back in the old days we would simply get the base game with a dozen races with their own voices.
Publishers have discovered people are willing to pay more if you tack on bits after launch. At most it would have been an expansion before. (which tends to still be cheaper then how it is done now).

Those were for games that could recycle art assets and base models to create units. That was never going to be true once this style of game was removed from the historical setting. And the price of games has stagnated for a long time, whole production costs have increased. I get that people don’t like it, but that is why sales exist.

If they don't want to expand too much the map, Wood elves would be far more likely than High Elves or Dark Elves to be honest. Yes they have colonies but wood elves have their whole kingdom connected to the old world.

It would make the most sense to me. Same with Skavens. But i am happy with the factions we are getting right now.

wish we had dark elves, they had some of the coolest lore and weapons (but if i remember they were really far away from where this game looks to take place on the map)
Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

Production costs have increased because CA has been pushing graphics at the expense of everything else for the longest time. There are plenty of games recently that have lower production costs because some, mostly indie companies have started focusing on gameplay again. And even some big publishers like Blizzard have done it with the likes of Hearthstone recently.

CA emphasizes raising the bar on their graphics and physics engine. They don't bug test seriously. They don't balance well. The last game I played was Rome 2 and the building costs and building bonuses were slapped on in a haphazard way. There were expensive buildings at the end of the tech tree that were just pointless to make, a hallmark of just about every CA game. Every game save Shogun 2 (marketed as a back to basics game) had extensive feature creep. CA would rather waste money half assing a bloated feature list rather than cutting features that clearly don't work well together. There's no sense that all their features come together to form a cohesive whole. Most are tacked together without any thought.

CA's DLC policies can only be described as wildly abusive. Their games feel like an FTP mobile app on the DLC front rather than a AAA game. Way too much DLC offering too little for the cost.

Don't worry I'm sure they'll be dropping a $15 DLC race pack for you 5 or 6 months from now. I really love the Total War series but lately the way they are doing these faction packs (Shogun II, Rome II) makes me hate them so much.

I had a great time with Shogun 2. My only issue was that climbing the tech tree took forever. I'll likely pick this one up after release. Assuming it is not a complete tire fire.

Oh yeah I'll get it at the first decent sale it has but seeing what happened to Rome 2 I'm letting other people do the bug testing for me.

To be fair I've never thought any CA game was playable without mods.

I'd love to pick this up since i read some Warhammer books at the moment.
But after the trainwreck of Rome 2, which i preorderd, i'm not gonna do that mistake again.
The game looks super cool and i'm already looking forward to march my armies to victory but i'm not paying 60€ to bug-test the game and then spend 100€ to pay for CA's DLC bullshit. I'll probably pick this up as some GOTY version with most DLCs bundled and the bugs fixed.
I really really hope they manage to build a not compeltly stupid AI this time.

no mods and allready this DLC pushing will make me skip this and i actually played warhammer fantasy...
And i personally dont trust their gameplay videos one centimeter, could all be scripted and the game could be a Rome2.

The DLC argument and concerns with CA's (or, perhaps more accurately, SEGAs) business model in general have been fairly well hashed out. I went ahead and pre-ordered, but I have every intention of watching streams and reviews and all that when it comes out before using up my 2 hours through steam, and if the game is in a terrible state I will be refunding it. I would advise everyone who is on the fence to consider this option as well. To me this gives them the early money they want (they argue they need it but lets put that aside) to continue development but it also will hold them accountable if things go wrong.

I would almost be just as amused to see what happens if people start demanding mass steam refunds, but I would be just as happy with a flawless release.

Also, all that said, the AI looks dumb and all these let's plays the people playing are playing horrendously bad, which in my opinion is to try and make the ai look more competent than it actually is.

Pretty damn hype for this.

Who really cares about the Clan packs etc for Shogun? You don't really have to buy them, and you aren't missing out much if you do. Oda are prob the best anyway in vanilla, and Satsuma are very strong in FOTS (Obama prob best but difficult + dlc).

AI for Empire was awful and yet everyone liked that? :S

Shogun 2 is easily their best launch day title in a decade+. It was a back to basics game where they deliberately kept the features list low and just focused on the core gameplay. It's what suckered me into Rome 2, which I regret.

The only DLC I ever bought was Rise of the Samurai, which is a separate campaign in Shogun 2.

My bet is that DE will be in on the second part of the trilogy with Lizardmen, High Elves and Daemons of Chaos.

In what concerns major factions, I think we will be left with the current 6 + MAYBE Beastmen. Although I still think the current 6 are what we are going to get in this first game and the beastmen will appear as a horde race DLC in that part of the trilogy (since they inhabit both the old and the new world and unlike skaven their presence in the new world is not just by the means of one tribe).

As much as the Total War series has faults, it is still fun to play. I have been playing a fair bit of Rome II recently. And I have been a fan of Warhammer for 10+ years now, so this is pretty much a dream come true for me. I would be foolish to expect this to be perfectly polished on release, or even truly balanced at any point, but I'm far more concerned with it being fun, and it sure looks like they're going to make that a reality.
