Give Wood Elves. No high elves, just wood elves.

The total war games have been hit or miss, depending on the year. But the majority have served me well. I get that people don’t like DLC races, but that is the nature of Warhammer and their wildly armies, requiring their own magic, sounds, VO and animation. Give Wood Elves. No high elves, just wood elves. No, its not because of sounds and animations. Back in the old days we would simply get the base game with a dozen races with their own voices. Publishers have discovered people are willing to pay more if you tack on bits after launch. At most it would have been an expansion before. (which tends to still be cheaper then how it is done now).

Those were for games that could recycle art assets and base models to create units. That was never going to be true once this style of game was removed from the historical setting. And the price of games has stagnated for a long time, whole production costs have increased. I get that people don’t like it, but that is why sales exist.

It would make the most sense to me. Same with Skavens. But i am happy with the factions we are getting right now.

I get that people don’t like it, but that is why sales exist. Production costs have increased because CA has been pushing graphics at the expense of everything else for the longest time. There are plenty of games recently that have lower production costs because some, mostly indie companies have started focusing on gameplay again. And even some big publishers like Blizzard have done it with the likes of Hearthstone recently. CA emphasizes raising the bar on their graphics and physics engine. They don't bug test seriously. They don't balance well. The last game I played was Rome 2 and the building costs and building bonuses were slapped on in a haphazard way. There were expensive buildings at the end of the tech tree that were just pointless to make, a hallmark of just about every CA game. Every game save Shogun 2 (marketed as a back to basics game) had extensive feature creep. CA would rather waste money half assing a bloated feature list rather than cutting features that clearly don't work well together. There's no sense that all their features come together to form a cohesive whole. Most are tacked together without any thought. CA's DLC policies can only be described as wildly abusive. Their games feel like an FTP mobile app on the DLC front rather than a AAA game. Way too much DLC offering too little for the cost.

I really love the Total War series but lately the way they are doing these faction packs (Shogun II, Rome II) makes me hate them so much.

But after the trainwreck of Rome 2, which i preorderd, i'm not gonna do that mistake again. The game looks super cool and i'm already looking forward to march my armies to victory but i'm not paying 60€ to bug-test the game and then spend 100€ to pay for CA's DLC bullshit. I'll probably pick this up as some GOTY version with most DLCs bundled and the bugs fixed. I really really hope they manage to build a not compeltly stupid AI this time.

And i personally dont trust their gameplay videos one centimeter, could all be scripted and the game could be a Rome2.

I would almost be just as amused to see what happens if people start demanding mass steam refunds, but I would be just as happy with a flawless release. Also, all that said, the AI looks dumb and all these let's plays the people playing are playing horrendously bad, which in my opinion is to try and make the ai look more competent than it actually is.

Who really cares about the Clan packs etc for Shogun? You don't really have to buy them, and you aren't missing out much if you do. Oda are prob the best anyway in vanilla, and Satsuma are very strong in FOTS (Obama prob best but difficult + dlc). AI for Empire was awful and yet everyone liked that? :S

The only DLC I ever bought was Rise of the Samurai, which is a separate campaign in Shogun 2.

In what concerns major factions, I think we will be left with the current 6 + MAYBE Beastmen. Although I still think the current 6 are what we are going to get in this first game and the beastmen will appear as a horde race DLC in that part of the trilogy (since they inhabit both the old and the new world and unlike skaven their presence in the new world is not just by the means of one tribe).
