All of the non-Southern human factions were wiped out, with the entirety of the North razed, so I had to resettle everything manually. I ended up occupying every province necessary for an Empire victory, plus everything in the Bretonnian provinces and Estalia in the Southwest. I also probably lost about 30-50 turns due to Marienburg being razed by the last Chaos army. The big turning point was getting peace agreements in place with the Norsca tribes (after I thoroughly brutalized like five of their stacks in one turn), who then continued to war against everyone else for the rest of the game, giving me room to expand build up five armies, two of which I used for the final push against the vampire factions in the east. Frankly, I got more help from minor-faction Orks and the Norsca tribes who were always wandering around my territory wiping out mutual enemies than any other faction. I really didn't like it when the Dwarves and Tileans declared war on me for no good reason. The campaign AI is definitely wonky. It could use some tuning.
managed the same just now after 350 turns. Though I delayed it cause I spend more time warring against border princes rather than just take the wincon provinces. Mostly cause I tried to figure out a way on how to win vs them, At the beginning they had armies of only pistoliers and outriders with a mortar mixed in (and Im pretty sure that on legendary their artillery does more damage than mine, always racking up 150 kills. Obviously they also have semi endless influx of gold off at most 3-4 towns. Their armies replenish faster than yours, and ive seen units not rout with 3 men left and a level 2 commander.
Most of the game was just turtling against the chaos pushes tho. Easily had 10 mixed chaos/skaeling/varg stacks running around reikland besieging everything at some point. Rushing steam tanks made quick work of most chaos armies, but turns out that mass steam tanks is awful vs greenskins in general and halberdiers + outriders.
Also, hellcannons are bullshit. Serious bullshit. Helstorm rocket batteries are terrible, and so are demigryph knights, their stats are worth nothing if you consider that any other cavalry unit has more than twice their unit amount.

Wow, Spirit Leech got nerfed hard. For Campaign, is that still the way to go or is Gaze of Nagash better?
I might get into MC eventually. I really enjoy watching Heir of Carthage, but it's definitely the wild west out there.

How can you call the second most OP (after steam tank) unit in the game terrible? Sure, demis don't have the numbers but they have a lot of other things going for them: - they are very, very fast - they have tons of piercing (best) damage and bonus vs large on top of that, making them kill pretty much whatever you send them after - they can hide in the woods as a minor bonus - and most importantly (that's why they're so few in a unit) they're monstrous cavalry, not regular one, which means they do splash damage and have more hp per member
The only things that are even remotely comparable to demigryph power level would be the blood knights.

Even after demi nerf they are strong

Demigryphs are like the best all around unit that the Empire has. They're tough as nails, have high mobility, and do tons of damage. From a sheer value proposition, you can't do better than Demigryphs.

From what I've seen in MP vidyas, it seems like orcs really favor Orc Big Uns over Black Orcs. Is that because the bonus to large is favored vs cavalry and monsters?

Ideally you should take both. BOs provide a nice and stable core since they can both tank and deal nice damage while having really good morale. OBU are much better at dealing damage but are also a lot more fragile.
It really depends on your opponent how you mix things but I usually don't leave home without at least 2 units of Black Orcs since they provide a much needed stability in a highly volatile faction.

Yeah 2-3 Units of Borks are kinda a must as "core" of your army to hold the line while you flank/second line charge with big'uns/boar boys/savages or Trolls/Spider/Giant.

I must have used them in the wrong way then cause I found them to rout rather easily, both vs orcs and empire

Did you remember to cycle your cavalry? Also, demis really work best in pairs.

Turn 27 as VCs. No Battle of Hel Fenn. First two free agents are Vampire and Banshee.
WTF.

Demigrpyhs are probably the best pound for pound unit in the game.
I honestly can't think of another Unit that comes close in overall usefullness.

Ugh. I wish they will release another patch soon. Ultra cheesefest from VC and Empire in MP is slowly getting on my nerves. I don't even mind the VC sponge strat (even though Heiro of Carthage seems to think it's too strong), but stuff like 5 steamtank armies, 6x demigryph armies, 3 flying vamp + 6 mounted wight kings and a mounted necromancer armies etc. are driving me nuts. It's absolutely no fun playing against that and I can't imagine it would be fun playing that either.

Jup, same here.
Well, if i see VC i just instantly leave Quickbattle. If i see massed any large Units, i just give up the game (Steamtanks are the clearest offender because with them its actually really strong) but its stupid and incredibly boring no matter what unit the other side brings.

Yeah that is pretty ridiculous. At ~5€ maybe, but this is way out of line. Personally I don't enjoy playable factions that force horde gameplay to begin with, yet even if I did and had any interest in beastmen, I still wouldn't pay this price.

I am going to wait for more info’s about the mini-campaign before I prematurely join the overpriced-bandwagon. I have to admit that it looks pretty grim though when you compare it to the main game price… we will see. I have also to admit that I am so far a bit disappointed with their unit variety but let’s wait and see. If the mini-campaign is really good I will probably change my mind and since I will only spend skinmoney I don’t really care that much.
|
And here was me hoping Bretonia would be released first or along als free dlc so we would have a chance to see how a new race is going to impact the campaign map.
But I won't pay anything for another horde race with no new unique mechanics and a mini campaign that I am never going to play.
