Huh. I'd figure that less surface area to shoot at and a gun's natural tendency towards vertical recoil would mean crouching, even for scrubs, would amount to more bullets whizzing over your head. I haven't played around with it at all though, because the first thing to go through my head when I see someone isn't "Okay, now CROUCH" lol
Ok silver question here - because we should all be aiming for headshots, when I see an enemy should I refrain from firing until I'm reasonably certain my crosshair is on their head? Currently I make an attempt to aim at their head but just start shooting anyway. in other words, because I suck at aiming and don't have that muscle memory or "feel", should I take the time to deliberately aim at the head?
I do this when practicing in deathmatch, but what about in a comp match
i'm currently doing my placement matches. I've won 5 games out of the 7 that i've played, but the people i'm playing against aren't getting any better? they have all been that rank with the silver badge thing. i thought that i'd get to play against harder and harder people, but that hasnt been the case.

so.. what's up with it?
Most likely the system already calibrated you for the silver rank range and you're just playing to see where you fit in there.

It's not so much, aim to the head, as to keep your crosshairs always where the head is supposed to be. That way, when you see the guy, you can just click, and it'll be a headshot, instead of having to move your mouse to the head from an arbitrary point on the screen. See this video
Also, depends on the distance if you want to wait until your crosshairs are on the head or not. Say for example you were looking at one direction, but the opponent pops up from another angle, if he's really close to you (like right in your face), you don't have to worry about aiming at the head, just turn to the general direction of him and shoot.

Problem is, a lot of low level players tend to aim at the ground for some reason when they move. So when they see someone, they'll start shooting from a lower angle. If you crouch, you might just end up crouching your head right into their crosshairs.
Although you technically have less surface area to shoot at if the person is crouched, they won't be moving, which is a bigger deal than surface area. If they're crouched, and you're strafing, you can quickly adjust your aim in the time that you side step a little, while they're crouched shooting, and trying to hit a moving target (while there's recoil in their gun too). That is the downside to crouching.
On the other hand, like what ragequitBM said, mid to higher level players will already have their crosshairs preaimed at a standing headshot level. So if you peek a corner, and then immediately crouch, you can surprise them by making them whiff their first shot. There's a ton of videos on it

Well that's pretty unfortunate.. I have won 5 out of the 7 total games I've played though, with only one of the games being a loss, the other being a tie?

Hm alright, I'm always top 2 on the scoreboard.. Maybe the next 5 wins will be against higher ranks?
Cs is a fun team game, maybe team actions get taken into account like assists or something?

You get points for performing team actions, like defusing and planting the bomb

1) the ranking system after my 10 wins i got silver 1, which is absolutely fine cause i didnt play shooters in a long time and especially in my first games, i was HORRIBLE
im at 22 or 23 wins now and im wondering how long it takes to rank up. yes, im not a pro but i know the basics from watching a lot of streams (where to peek, where to watch out for enemy awp, where to smoke and flash, when to buy, when to eco) the last 10 or 15 games i got very confident, im usually at the top 2 of my team, even when we lose, and some games i feel like i won for my team (going 33-5-18 or smthg like that, defusing a lot of bombs, being the ONLY one to buy a non-scope weapon ... etc)
so im really wondering how long this takes cause i read stuff like "lvl up in 5 wins"
2) csgolounge id like to bet on matches so how does this work ? can i start betting without putting any money into it ? cause i never bought any skins in dota, and i dont plan on doing so in cs ...
thanks guys !
Hey man 1) It shouldn't take you long to rank up from silver I. However the ranking system doesn't really weight how much you frag or die, it cares more about how much you win and lose. So theoretically - if you lose every match top fragging, you won't rank up. Inversely, if you win every match bottom fragging you're more likely to rank up. Hope that clarifies a little bit.
2) CSGOLounge lets you bet skins on matches. You can get these from drops playing any game mode really in CS. They're limited to a specific number per week, however they are free. After you get these skins you can bet them on CSGL so yes, betting can be free.
I'm pretty sure though if you top frag and lose you wont lose as much mmr, and when you win and bottom frag you wont gain as much. Also playing against higher ranked players makes ranking up way faster. Good luck!
It's pretty boring when you get killed early and have to spectate; are there any custom modes/servers that let you play against other dead players, while waiting for the next round?
I'm imagining an instant respawn deathmatch 'Limbo' mode played on the current map as semi transparent ghosts but unable to interact (or be visible) with the players still in the game. Does something like this already exist?

Deathmatch.
Deathmatch is great for warming up but I prefer Casual/Competitive for the more tactical side of the game. What I'm looking for is something that combines both.
What's with dual berettas getting picked up on pro level pistol rounds? I've seen GTR blasting away at Nuke and now NBK defends Inferno B site with them.
On Nuke I thought it was the open yard that kind of allowed you to keep prefiring all the angles forever, but the Inferno B site is a completely different kind of an area.
Basically are the berettas really the way to spend 500 bucks on pistol round rather than picking up nades, armor or fiveseven/cz for example?

Yes, if Get_right thinks it is the way to go it probably isn't a bad idea. Not having to reload as often is a big deal.

I haven't seen any high level player buy them every game. They are good in specific strats on maps, where you want one guy to defend a spot and be able to take on a lot of people rushing him. I haven't played around with them very much because i love the usp too much.

I've seen GTR get them for awhile now, didn't know NBK liked to get them too. Also noticed him with it this weekend in MLG too.

If you did not already know steam has a built in web browser if you shift+tab you can click web browser on the bottom so you can check out TL between rounds if you get bored.
