Above the yellow game labels there is a checkbox. Make sure it is not checked and you should have some buttons appear beside the search bar. Other games needs to be activated and then all the other games will no longer be crossed out.

Afterwards you probably want to check that box so you don't filter by accident.

Unhide the filter buttons, and make sure that tab on the top right is enabled in order to see other games.

Aww man, I have to grind sucky 10v10 casual games full or smurfs and hackers till I get level 3? For someone who only gets to play for a couple of hours a week, this could be the end of my CS:GO gaming.

I can understand why they do it but aren't they just pushing the problem back to people that just bought the game?

Surely my 5 year medal should exempt me from this drudgery.

the lack of having map control as CT is very dangerous as giving Ts freedom around the map will let them overrun you

Both a sites and mids have you rely on your teammates pretty heavily, which sucks if said mates don't play properly. I hate playing a mirage with a bad mid...

Can i see the rank of people i play dm against? Haven't played an fps in ages and have never played proper 5v5 cs. But feel fragwise i have no problems atleast.

Also anywhere to learn basic tactics per map? Like i have no idea where to hold as ct and shit. Always played pickups with ppl much better than me in 1.6 who just told me where to stand and run as t.

I don't think you can until the very end with Valve servers. If you're doing FFA DM, you'll just have to ask and hope they respond.

Warowl videos go over basics for different maps, but some of them aren't well labeled. Generally, if you can see the enemy entering into site but aren't out in the open, then it's probably a decent spot.

For instance, A-side Cache, you can hide by the wall-fence corner near the door, that boost spot by the A-main opening (though I think you need a smoke first to get there 100% safely), near quad box, behind the truck toward T-spawn (the shots are harder to hit for both sides, so good luck), etc.

I'd say the easiest way to learn, especially if you're retarded like me and can't figure things out on your own, is to watch Global Elites playing via Valve's in-game spectator system or to to watch pro games via Youtube or tournament streams on Twitch. These'll also teach you how to throw certain grenades (like smoking A-main Cache from truck as CT).

No you can't see rank. Although the average skill in Valve DMs is probably Gold Nova to DMG, with the occasional higher LEM+ player there. In community DM servers (fragshacks/netcodeguides DMs, sorry I don't know what community DMs are in EU, VeryGames?) you'll usually get more LEM+ all the way to the occasional pro player.

I learn basics of the maps by just going into the map by myself (offline with bots), I have a practice config that kicks all bots and I just run around getting a feel of the spots in the map (bombsites, where T/CTs can enter from etc). Then you can either play competitive or casual mode to see where engagements happen.

In the end, it's practical stuff like actually going in and playing the map that will get you familiar with it. It's ok if you lose the first few games, or don't pull your weight, everyone starts somewhere.

This might not be a simple enough question but I figured I'd try here first:

How do I teach this game to relative newbies?

I've got two friends who played CS with me back in 2000-2001. They want to get back into it and play competitively. They've been playing a bit of casual in order to rank up so that we can play competitive. I have them doing deathmatch for target practice and I try to get them to watch a few tutorials and highlight vids on YouTube in order to soak up how to play.

But are there must watch tutorials that they should see? The shorter and more focused the better. And if there are some matches that can be very instructive, that'd be great as well.

I'm looking through this thread and it seems like already there are some good resources, so this will be valuable

If anyone is in the same position, one of the things that I've noticed is important is attitude. This is true of most levels of CS but is doubly true for newbies who, if discouraged too much, can stop playing.

You have to remind them to not care about deaths too much in deathmatch, focus on the kills. And celebrate any and all progress because CS can slap you in the face easily, so you have to take each positive inch you claw out and throw a small party about it.

I'd suggest having them watch one of the POVs on youtube. Not to learn anything in particular, but rather to get a feel for how the game plays out. They'll see the importance of call outs, strategies, teamwork, communication, etc. They'll get to see the mindgames and tactics that come into the game, and I'd hazard a guess that this will intrigue them further.

I'd suggest personally www.youtube.com. Cloud9 vs Fnatic. Major upset, the comms are all in english, and you really get a window into the highs this game gives you. For videos, I think this is great. Also, look up the Anders Blume "ARE YOU KIDDING ME" montage video. That'll get 'em into it for sure.

As for gameplay, deathmatch will help them learn to aim a bit, and get some of the mechanics down. I'd suggest even the arms race/gun game as an early alternative, since it offers them a more obvious and fun chance to "win something"

First off, your friends need to have that motivation to want to be good/competitive at the game in order to improve. It's all in the mentality. Else, they'll plateau at a certain level, which is not necessarily a bad thing if they don't want to devote the time to it.

Also, you and your friends should be on the same page, go through the maps you want to play together, learn the callouts, know the lingo (angles/peeking/baiting etc).

steel and dazed's videos are pretty good on youtube. adren had some nice videos too before focusing more on playing than making videos. Here's the links to their channels. I'll include a couple more channels which I think are more newbie friendly, but haven't really watched as many of their tutorials as compared to dazed/steel/adren etc. Most of it are overlapping anyways.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe7l_hieyMs03ju3l3BP_ew - dazed
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCauWzM4ElgQCuwymc3sV42g - adren
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkFeaDgFURxNOoRoezRl7aQ - steel

https://www.youtube.com/user/3kliksphilip - additional guides, maybe more newbie friendly.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHF999pjo89OKE2X_sudbAqQonX6Kz_BI - warowl, also more newbie friendly, i think.

Say what you might about what dazed/steel have done in the past, but I find their knowledge of the game extremely high and the fact that they're willing to make videos for it is even better.

Then you can get them to watch some pro/higher level player streams, like shroud/pasha/adren/shaffer. If they see some nice plays they can try to imitate it, which helps them pick up some tactics, or become more interested in certain mechanics. (ie. ooh how did he do that jump? *looks up bhopping* (another whole can of worms))

A lot of the rest is just practicing on their own/playing together, and grind in that time to develop muscle memory. You're not gonna get better at the game playing it ~1-3 hrs/week. If that's all the time they have, oh well, but they'll need to put in the time to get better. The more you play, the more you pick up the little quirks with the game, and understand and use the mechanics of the game to your advantage.
