Serious = Someone angry at you for being a douche
Tryhard = You are angry at someone because you think you lost the round/game and he doesn't

Seriously though, solo MM has been a mostly positive experience for me, only about 1/10 of the time is a game ruined by blatant cheating or serious griefing. I suspect that

1) it is mostly a case that people come here to TL to vent, thus skewing perceptions
2) some of the people here venting are angry over silly things like people having no mics, or angry that some guy isn't trying to clutch they would have themselves. Like seriously? Recognise that you are the bm rager ruining games for other people already.

I actually enjoy solo MM. I don't mind the ragers and the tryhards because I'm the guy with no mic. But maybe I was asking too much to think that higher ranks would be more "mature".

I also find it amusing when my teammates argue over stupid things. My favorite would be when the mic spammer calls "Cat, cat, cat, cat, OMG didn't you hear him coming?"

Same for me but I have to admit that I don't play soloq that often, I usually play with at least one friend. Another thing that might be taken into consideration is the fact that I usually play pretty late when I soloq, seems like I encounter less cheaters/griefers. But yeah, soloq have been very enjoyable so far.

afaik, tryhards = people who are better than you and serious = actively seeking to improve as a player

Losing and brushing it off because "shut the fuck up, you fucking tryhard" is pretty much a modern American internet defensive response because it implies that if you had gotten enough sleep/weren't hungry/were sober/actually tried/had warmed up/had sex with your babysitter when you were 12 and she was 16, that you would have won, which pretty much casts off all the blame on your end because it's not your fault and it will never ever be your fault. Like blaming your teacher for how you didn't study on your test because you were too busy playing Counter Strike and not studying.

Hope that helps.

edit: key note: they're not mutually exclusive. in a literal sense, serious people are "tryhards", so they can also be used as synonyms.

Quick question about sprays. I've been really focussing on learning how pro's use sprays and burst. Seems to be a lot of varying opinions and philosophies regarding this and a whole lot of stuff that just seems blatantly wrong.

From what I can tell, a reliable burst with the AK is about 7-10 bullets before it starts going too crazy. Is it common at higher level's to control a burst into a spray more than 10 bullets with an AK to ensure a kill at medium range? Or do you re-strafe and burst again? Thinking along the lines of, both players in cover CT at arch and T peeking mid at Inferno.

M4A1 seems to have about a 8-10 reliable burst as well before it starts going crazy left and right motions. If I attempt to control the rest of the bullets and spray at a target medium range I usually end up trying to wait for the horizontal bullet motion to hit their head which feels like luck sometimes, but at least my horizontal line is head level. Same question as the AK, should I learn and be able to control the left/right pattern at the end of the M4A1 spray to be able to consistently saturated an area at relatively long range?

Humorous note, I know just about exactly where the bullet spray ends for the M4A1 so even if I can't control the last half of its spray all reliably, I do know where the final few bullets land which means I can always finish off a player with the tail end of my spray if they are damaged.

Thanks in advance for any advice and opinions!

Like you said, there's different philosophies and in the end, it's all in your play style. Pros differ as well, extreme examples being get_right and friberg being typically sprayers (no matter the range) and others like scream/f0rest that rarely spray. Scream is known for like always trying to 1 tap people in the head even at close range.

For the AK, you can practice trying to spray the full 30 bullets, but you can reliably burst the first few shots that just go vertically up (~first 5-7 shots). Similarly with the M4A1, but the bullet spread on that gun is much more compact.

That said, for medium/close range, it still depends on the situation. Personally in your example of Inferno (I'm thinking you mean T is peeking top mid (either arch/porch side) and the CT is hiding arch/porch side), I would burst, just because there is a lot of cover for the CT to quickly strafe behind, and you will end up wasting ammo hitting the walls and doing no damage.

If you're confident, you can go full out spray, regardless of distance. Otherwise, I'd just suggest strafe shoot 1-3 shots at long range, maybe burst 5-7 shots at med range (depends), and spray/pray close range (unless ofc you're expecting the guy to peek you), in which case you can just pop his head w/ 1-2 bullets the instant he turns a corner.

n0thing has a rant on this, and probably explains it better than I am.

Quick question, is it true that you don't benefit from 128tick servers at all if you can't do 128+ fps? I'm searching the web atm to find an answer but I can't seem to find a clear one.

A tryhard is the guy who plays casual mode and is calling out spots, calling strategies for his team, and is playing the game like it's the finals of a tournament. The tryhard is the same guy who gets in the beta of a game and immediately busts out his best strategies and cheeses in order to win games instead of messing around with the new units and having fun. The tryhard is generally a guy who is so focused on winning that he will play his hardest in an environment where winning is irrelevant.

I don't think anyone can tryhard in a matchmaking match, because people actually take those seriously. IMO a CS:GO matchmaking match is much more important than an iCCUP game or an SC2 ladder match is, just because of how people treat it. But that's just my opinion of course.

I don't believe FPS has anything to do with server registration.

Short answer yes.

It was something like, if you can't get high enough fps, 128 tick isn't going to give you better server reg. Just search "128 tick fps" to see a variety of answers for it.

Yeah I saw the Valve answer but I feel like it's a PR answer more than anything else. I feel like they just don't want to admit that they don't want to spend money on upgrading the servers and instead gave us that shitty PR answer. I mean, I've played on 128 tick server with less than 128fps sometimes and it still felt way better than 64 tick @ 64fps. Nway, not like it really matters to me since I'm nowhere being good at cs but I was just curious.

There is definitely a noticable difference on 128tick even with lower FPS.

Does anyone else struggle on T-side Mirage heavily in MM? My T side is very weak overall, but it seems like my teams always especially struggle on Mirage, especially compared to Cache, Dust 2, and even Inferno which is crazy. It seems like it requires so much coordination on T side, like when you try to get mid control and need to have eyes on connector, window, and cat to make sure the CT's don't get any free kills. I've been learning the smokes on the map recently but it's pretty useless when only one or two people on the team know them haha
