It is not that much of a secret. No company other than Blizzard can afford several years of development. Barring PG's size, I would say they did a tremendous job in this game with some expected flaws and they said they are fixing the issues. Cut scenes are really high quality, soundtrack is one of the best you can find in the gaming industry, relatively good balance at launch WITHOUT a Beta period, a complete single player, a highly active and vocal developer base, I'd say they did very good. It is not AAAAAA++ quality at launch but I can live with that.

Apparently gamers like paying for unfinished and buggy products, so you might as well exploit that. Of course they will complain and throw fits on the internet, but they will still happily continue buying them. Honestly though, I am glad I still lived through the days in which developers actually sold finished products (because patching via the internet was not an option back then) and gave out free demo version for people to try before they buy. Nowadays you have to shell out €60 and pray the game doesn't suck.

It is then on you to buy the game after you tried it.

Which is why i don't pirate things anymore, and i simply don't buy stuff while it is unfinished/at launch. Instead i wait for a few months and either buy the finished product at half price or don't buy it if there is a consensus that it sucks donkey balls.

Good thing i didn't give them any money! Which is why i don't pirate things anymore, and i simply don't buy stuff while it is unfinished/at launch. I only buy like 2% of the DLC that gets included in the pirate bundle though. Almost none of that is worth the money if you know what it does. With some notable exceptions where the DLC are expansions and not a single weapon or new map. I like the ideas and the game is somewhat fun to watch, just don't enjoy playing it is how I think of this specific game.

https://www.greybox.com/greygoo/en/forum/topic/2100/?page=1#post-19411 Over the past month we’ve been gathering feedback and monitoring Grey Goo’s balance very closely. We’re very pleased to announce that after next week’s performance patch goes live, our focus will completely shift towards gameplay and balance. With that said, these changes are absolutely built around your feedback, so we feel it’s only fair that we keep you informed on the direction the game will be taking. We want to better inform you exactly what we are changing, why, and how the tweaks are going to roll out in upcoming game updates. Next week, we're going discuss these balance tweaks in three separate posts: 1 - Bases and Defense 2 - Early Game Combat 3 - Mid to Late Game Combat As a sneak peek, here are some of the high priority issues we’ll be discussing. This list is not all inclusive: Walls Artillery and Destructor Damage Goo Offensive Capabilities Human Teleporters More If you have any questions on this announcement, or if there is anything you’d love for us to discuss as part of these posts, please let us know! We look forward to hearing from you!

They made an interesting game with strong fundamentals. Now they just have to fix and sell it.

Destructors are strong, but artillery works well against them. This is a tough balance to strike because I want artillery to be strong, but also not gamebreaking. The destructor rush is a hard counter to greed and a soft counter to safe builds, and I think that's what needs to go. Goo early game is pretty tough. I like teleporters as they are. It reminds me of arbiters teleporting 1/3 of your entire army, in a good way. I think that a few more units (possibly in an expansion) would be needed to make this an especially healthy game mechanic, but it still has a charm to it that I think does not need nerfing. Overall, what I think the game lacks is harass, the ability to snipe buildings, and interesting micro mechanics. These are the kinds of things that really should be promoted by patches.

Other rts have comparable numbers. Maybe it isn't a flop. We can see on all those charts that something made players spike at various times from sub-500 launch. http://steamcharts.com/app/15620 http://steamcharts.com/app/17480
