Also as GOO what are you supposed to do vs humans / beta that wall rush you? Humans can attack you through there walls and even micro through them, what are you supposed to do as goo? It seems impossible to even kill Beta / Human walls or turrets , is destructor or bastion the only option to take down walls / buildings?
I had a Beta play just wall off half of the map and then mass Predators, it seemed impossible to stop lol, what would be good vs this? This units that are underground and good vs clumps I'm guessing and artillery that have long range I'm guessing. How about bypassing the walls? Goo has options of just skipping past them if they invest too much in them. (Not played MP, just theory from how the units work.) Or as in SC2 when somebody goes defensive, out-expand and trade badly while winning.
I know but if you bypass the walls and then they have too many units to just kill with the small protein it seems so you are forced to build units , but then they move through the wall and you cant attack them and they can shoot you. I am just trying to find the best way to simply kill the walls, it can't be true that the walls are constructed and impossible to take down, what is the best units to take down walls though I'm wondering, it seems destructors but they are large proteins ! Siege/artillery units?
Also, generally the answer in this game seems to be try to control more than half the resource nodes. If you occupy more than half the map and your trades aren't terrible, you can wear them down. If you occupy half the map or less, the game is about trading efficiently. Walls give the non-goo an advantage if they can get them up... but walls take 10x damage while building. I think keeping a scouting presence and not letting the enemy get walls up in key places would help a lot.
But if the wall does go up, goo has a lot of resources to pressure the chokepoint. Proteans from both sides plus frontal attack with siege is pretty scary.

What are examples of Siege and Artillery units for Goo? Are all units made from small proteins not considered siege or artillery? I'm guessing Siege = Destructor and artillery = the long ranged hurling catapult unit ?
And it seems like when you attack structures with proteins that you have to constantly attack or they will attack once they just move off to the side and not attack. I didn't think realize the game was so macro oriented, I try to play a very harass type of game with goo, is this not now I should play? More passive aggressive while just taking the map with mother goos?
I have about 10 games played so far so I am still learning! But I am getting gosu with the Goo.... My new name is GOOsu
Will be streaming more tonight...game is addicting

Too bad it is not an indie game And it is worth to get a new rig for all the things that come out this year anyway #yearofepicgames
Petroglyph Games are not independent developers? According to a couple sites I visited they are, but whatever..
Do need a new rig, but our idea of epic games obviously differ. Apart from Grey goo the only game I am even interested in coming out this year is Bloodborne, which is a PS4 exclusive.
edit: actually War for the Overworld and the new Torment game look cool. Guess I do have a few titles this year to get hyped about.

Its good to keep both kinds of unformed goo as a part of your army. sometimes even having a couple offensive mother goos can be a good idea.
iv never had the problem your describing with attacking structures with proteans. if you attack move them they should behave exactly like any other unit
small proteans are pretty OP imo due to their super speed, respectable damage, built in super slow, wallclimbing, and ability to morph into new units at low health.

Yeah when I say siege I'm thinking Proteans, but also mostly the Bastion/Destructor combo. Artillery are the Crescents. I'm a little underwhelmed by the Crescent against, say, Beta walls mounted with Guardians, which are pretty great at shooting down the projectiles. And even if the projectiles don't go down, the damage isn't great against buildings. I'm experimenting with using it as a support unit with the healing splash in combo with B/D combo or the usual Protean/Drover ambushes. But Bastion/Destructor is really brutal. You can smash through walls very quickly, and it's not terrible at fighting the army in the choke (which is the part where the Crescent earns its money.)
|
The whole point of Guardians is to be good vs air and ground once you mount them on walls. Afterall they cannot attack when not mounted.

all time Peak concurrent users on Steam is 2,750.
i'm predicting they won't be able to afford to add all the features they are promising. In much the same way they promised a multiplayer beta test and never delivered.
|
2750? that's not a lot, at all
|
2750 is better than 2500.

Agreed...

So GGzerG, have any new thoughts for us about GG?
|
That's a really low number, but I am not too surprised about it, the subreddit is too small and there was no hype at all, even within the own sub.
I just hope they will put some effort to optimize it because it's too frustrating to play when everything feels chucky at times
|
Well i'm going to stream again soon, I really like the game , I think they need to add some features ... such as
New features I think needed to be added to GG :
-Replays -Better resource / map design on minimap because it can be kind of confusing (maybe this only happens when sending goo's to spigot's and being unsure which end the spigot is on.) -better UI for Multiplayer -Updates to fix lag issues. -Make it so you don't have to Zoom out every game and click the button to show minimap resources. -Tournaments like in the old C&C games -Clan ladder like in old C&C games -Easier way to chat? I don't even know how to chat with my opponent or add them after game
As far as the game though I love it and it is really fun to play and to learn, even though I am not as good as I want to be at the moment!
|
I think you can find people you played against through Steam and chat with them that way. But I agree, game needs its own chat system like sc2. Haha when people complained about Bnet 2.0 they didn't know how it looks when someone with 1/4 of Blizzard resources does something similar
Devs said they are working on issues and a patch should be arriving soon.
|
I also think that the ground units in general need to be a little faster lol
|
No, I think the speed is fine so far. It works perfectly for games like SupCom so it is not an issue ^^ We need more maps! Will play more this week, so far I am trying to play through the campaign.
|
This game wasn't made by the devs of supcom it was made by the devs of C&C, in original C&C's you could modify the game speed to make things in the game including units move faster, I think it would be good for more extreme players, but they would have to do it in a way so units like small proteins don't move faster, or air units imo.

Even if you could modify speed, ranked games speed would be fixed on current one. Devs decided on this speed for a reason. And that means tournaments would be this speed as well.
|
I know that they didn't make the game but in supcom, the speed is perfect. Tanks and the likes are even slower than in GG and this game is still the best RTS so far. Speed != better game.
