Is that a joke? Just look at the blizzcon thread here. Almost all negativity immediately without even giving the game a real look. I went on reddit and everyone is hyped instead.
Kind of sad I came to TL for blizzcon news because of all the cool announcements and both this and LoV gettings tons of hate... sad when reddit is the beacon for positivity and TL is the gloomy hole.

I really haven't seen too many casual-friendly co-op games lately, so this is a breath of fresh air. It looks fun, which, to me, is (most of the time) more important for something I'm doing in my free time than whether it's super balanced and skillful and can have big intense Blizzcon tournaments.
Not that a game can't be both, of course, I just enjoy the occasional experience that doesn't sacrifice fun for balance. Between this and Splatoon, I'm really excited to grab some friends and yell a lot. Just this time not so much at each other.
Also, I'm definitely on the "enjoyed the aesthetic" side of the argument, and I haven't been this excited for a Blizzard release since WotLK.
Well said. I used to have a ton of free time and wanted every game to be hardcore.
Now, I have a busy life. I still play 1 game hardcore (Guild Wars 2) and everything else I just want to have fun. I hate when every single game tries to be super competitive. This game looks FUN! That's all that matters to me.

Man this "casual" debate about every game just makes me cringe.

so........when is the heroes show match...........

I didn't think much of the cinematic but the gameplay trailer is looks pretty cool.
I wonder if they'll release new champions/heroes/people in the future.

Blizzard has ALWAYS made games for casuals. The thing is they have been, traditionally, extremely hard to master, but Blizzard makes no "dark souls" type of games, which attract a rather specific audience, or games like the old Black Isle style RPGs which required intense dedication in order to get through them.
Blizzard has always made their games accessible to all gamers, which is why they're so popular. Nobody can actually fail to enjoy their games if they remotely enjoy a given genre, visuals are enticing, gameplay is easy and rock solid at the base, while also deep and hard to master to appeal to those more invested in skill in gaming.
This game is exactly what Blizzard would make, considering the moment the gaming industry is going through. You can also bet your ass this game is going to be pretty competitive at high levels, as long as Blizz can nail the mechanics, which I'm sure they can because they're Blizz and they've never failed to refine a genre's mechanics.

However, I think a closer approximation is a hero-based form of Unreal Tournament's Assault game mode.
Overwatch, like Assault, features objective-based gameplay (that isn't capture the flag!). For example, one of the levels in UT99 was on a speeding train. The team that's on offense has to first board the train, then dislodge the rear cars, then isolate the engine and destroy it. Your spawn zone changes based on the objectives the attacking team has completed. Once the attackers complete all the objectives, the teams switch roles, and the new attacking team has to complete all the objectives in a shorter time.
The hero-based stuff is cool because it allows for additional flexibility over time. Sounds fun!
Based on the description of the 2 game modes currently announced on the Overwatch website (Payload & Point Capture), I would say that Payload is pretty much inspired by TF2's own Payload mode and that Point Capture seems similar to TF2's Attack/Defend mode.
So I think the comparison to TF2 is warranted.

I've said this a bunch of times, but anyone nostalgic for old Blizz being "hardcore" should compare vanilla WoW to any pre-2004 MMO, particularly Everquest.
Also this game doesn't look more casual than TF2, I have no idea why people would say that.

TF2 comparisons seem fair when there's literally a heal-beam Medic and an Engineer that builds by swinging a wrench (okay, hammer).
Not saying that's bad, because the Medic and Engineer (and Spy) were some of the most interesting additions that TF2 threw in. Just that it's fair to make the connection.

Looks not very fun or interesting.

Valve did a great job with Dota 2 and they didn't noobify it, idk why the old Blizzard can't still exist in today's gaming world, just want them back. Blizzard has always made accessible games. Always. They make games for everyone, not the "hard core" gamers that just want a game to kick them in the nuts before they even press tart. They are never going to make what you are demanding because you are demanding something they never made. SC1, WC3 and D1 and D2 were accessible games at the time and anyone could enjoy them. And trust me, there is enough blind Blizzard hate on TL to go around. And a lot of them pretty much say the enact same thing you said above. Folks like Wolf and myself have seen 3 year going. Some of us are just happy their are new games. I really don't hate Blizzard, to be honest it's kinda like watching your best friend in a terrible relationship and you can't do anything to help him, but it hurts to hear about all the bad shit that happens to him so you more or less stopped wanting to know. ALL games are for everyone, that is silly to say, anyone can play CS but not everyone will land head shots all the time and I disagree, of course SC (which is my favorite) could be enjoyed by everyone, but only "hardcore" people bothered playing tons of WGTour or PGTour back in the day or just play a fuck ton to try and improve. Plenty of people playing D2 but very few even bothered reaching level 99 or having amazing gear or laddering or farming bosses for months and months. The game doesn't have to be fucking Dark Souls to be "hardcore" and I would say that game isn't hardcore at all, once you get the in the rhythm of attacking, blocking and dodging you're set.
It's simply that the requirement for getting the "reward" whether that is loot or levels in Diablo or getting better at SC2 has been lowered, by A LOT. I want games I can get immerse myself in, that requires me to invest my time into them to get a worthy reward for my actual work, not this my mom can pick it up and have 1337 gear in a week, fucking WoW really disappointed me in this sense, went from actually having to work for your epics so you could raid to giving them away for nothing just so no one felt left out but then everyone became lazy and didn't want to go through the work to get their shit. Obviously MMO's were hella harder than WoW vanilla but that doesn't matter, the point is from that point forward things have been degrading to a more casual approach where the amount of work you have to put in doesn't match the immense rewards you get, and that goes for really most games now days. I been playing Dota 2 for months and I suck so hard at it but I don't mind, I enjoy the learning process it's fun, obviously that is just my preference but that doesn't make it any less valid than yours.

Agree 100%.
Blizzard doesn't seem like a company that revolutionizes genres (at least not for a while now), they're just masters of polish. So it's not that important to me that it takes a lot from TF2. It's been 7 years since that game's release and I'm excited to see what improvements Blizzard can make to whichever features they've borrowed.

Even if the gameplay is fun, the voice acting is already grating enough that I can't see myself putting real time into it. It's always good to see new games getting made in addition to WoW expansion#1432 though.
|
I was not tempted at the trailer (it's great, just not my cup of tea) but damn the gameplay trailer looks very fun to watch. I wonder if blizzard plans to get big with this game in esport as well
|
Looks like fun, trailer looks like a pixar/dreamworks movie. Honestly I would watch it
|
Well, I'd rather see my kids playing this than CoD. But doesn't this make them direct competitors with their Activision cousins (I don't know much about the FPS scene)?
|
If the game doesn't work out, make it a movie! I so wanna play the raging dwarf though.
I want to answer those Blizzard got more casuals comments, but it always gets to long. You can't simply say that easy to learn hard to master is how you do games for everyone, casuals and hardcore. And if someone says Blizzard got more casual it just means that they got better at what they always did. hmm that actually works out.
|
its the casual crowd that brings them the $$$ not the hardcore. just be glad its not a pay2win garbage like many other games nowadays
|
Control Points? Payload? TF2.
