Yeah i know right, a short ranged aoe dmg spell is literally casual. I am sure you won't find any of that in the hardcore games you play !
It's a fps game, you are supposed to aim at stuff. I have never seen something like this in any fps game ever, for obvious reasons.
Thank god that creative people don't think like you. There would never have been any form of evolution in gameplay with that mindset. I mean you don't have to like it, but your reasoning is bad.
But this is devolution, taking away from the gameplay. If it altered time, like say void's ulti chronosphere and while it was active you would go all neo, aka bullet time, it would be nice. The way it is now, you press a button, the game aims for you and that's that.
The ability looks like throwing a grenade/rocket at your feet that deals damage in an AoE around yourself while you (and presumably your team mates) are invulnerable to the damage. At least that's how I see this ability.

Gotta balance out the people who blindly hates on anything with the Blizzard tag.
Are you trolling or what? Does he seem like throwing grenades in the clip? I mean, if you go as far as making things like that up, then I guess there can't be a conversation.

Yeah, it's not. It's a melee grenade without friendly fire. Oooooh, soo casual.

You're complaining about the balance of a proposed character in a game that's not even available to play. You don't even know how this character as is will function w/in the scope of the game.

It's a point blank aoe attack, much like dropping a cooked nade at your own feet? Except it don't kill you or your allies I guess? Doesn't seem too outlandish. Explosives have been in FPS games forever.

Well they did say they had it on computers at the event so technically it IS available to play. >_>
I don't get why everyone is down on the trailer to be honest. I thought it was fun, interesting and gave me some nice insights into the "world" of the game. Got me hyped up for the gameplay trailer following at least.

The trailer looked like a Pixar movie trailer rather than a gaming one. Might actually be an interesting movie.
Haha. Yeah it looks fun, and the art design definitely reminded me of Pixar... The Incredibles specifically.
Completely separate from gameplay and fun, but for a long time Blizzard has been losing their dark fantasy/ Blade Runner/ Alien vibe (Probably since Warcraft 3) in their art design. I'm rather sad about that, but this completes the evolution, which is fair enough. One probably gets tired of working with a dark colour palette, exclusively. However, hopefully some other pc gaming company picks up the dark art style.
I'm not much into shooters, but then again, this looks more like a first person MOBA and Blizzard tends to make damn good games. If it's F2P, I might check it out.

You're right, my mistake. Nothing wrong with expressing his opinion, but I do think he should still temper it somewhat until he at least tries it. Blizzard games tend to have their nuances so basing everything off TF2 or any other shooter is not entirely useful.

So let's be clear here...
If he had a throw animation straight down on the ground and a big AoE explosion effect, you'd be okay with it then?
I'm just trying to figure out what level of ludicrous whining we're dealing with. Do you not like AoE attacks in FPSes period? Or is it the lack of tossing or rocket flare that sets you off?
People keep making references to TF2, I think based on the different abilities for each playable character and the team-based dynamic and the Pixarlike art style. However, I think a closer approximation is a hero-based form of Unreal Tournament's Assault game mode.
Overwatch, like Assault, features objective-based gameplay (that isn't capture the flag!). For example, one of the levels in UT99 was on a speeding train. The team that's on offense has to first board the train, then dislodge the rear cars, then isolate the engine and destroy it. Your spawn zone changes based on the objectives the attacking team has completed. Once the attackers complete all the objectives, the teams switch roles, and the new attacking team has to complete all the objectives in a shorter time.
The hero-based stuff is cool because it allows for additional flexibility over time. Sounds fun!

I think there's more to it than that.
First, many key developers and designers who left (e.x. Blizzard North division) have been replaced over the years by new ones. This is fairly routine, as the U.S. worker job hops on an average of 4.4 years.
Second, a company exists to maximize profits, and all decisions are based on that. It is very likely they believe that a brighter, cheerful color palette appeals to more people.
This game looks like a blast. Of course haters are going to hate because, lets face it, thats what people do on the internet. There is no way it will prevent me from trying this game out.

Not blindly hating, I love Blizzard, very very much, they could do no wrong in my eyes a few years ago. But the company that made SC/BW, Vanilla WoW/TBC/, WC, D1/2 is not here anymore, they just make games for stay home moms, kids who play for 5 minutes and leave and people who play while facebooking, not really hate, can't hate Blizzard, at this point is just sadness. Valve did a great job with Dota 2 and they didn't noobify it, idk why the old Blizzard can't still exist in today's gaming world, just want them back.

Wow. Yes I have seen and read that page, yes I have watched the trailer, panel and gameplay trailer. I didn't mean it visually, it was metaphoric.
That is not what I meant by similar to a grenade/rocket aimed at your feet. I meant it worked similarly to that fashion when compared to existing shooters which do have grenades, rockets and AoE damage and I don't see people bitching as much about those in existing shooters.
Maybe it would be more accurate if I said it worked similarly to being a mobile Molotov with you being the centre.
Why does every game have to push the limits of competition and empower eSports and whatnot? I really haven't seen too many casual-friendly co-op games lately, so this is a breath of fresh air. It looks fun, which, to me, is (most of the time) more important for something I'm doing in my free time than whether it's super balanced and skillful and can have big intense Blizzcon tournaments.
Not that a game can't be both, of course, I just enjoy the occasional experience that doesn't sacrifice fun for balance. Between this and Splatoon, I'm really excited to grab some friends and yell a lot. Just this time not so much at each other.
Also, I'm definitely on the "enjoyed the aesthetic" side of the argument, and I haven't been this excited for a Blizzard release since WotLK.

Blizzard has always made accessible games. Always. They make games for everyone, not the "hard core" gamers that just want a game to kick them in the nuts before they even press tart. They are never going to make what you are demanding because you are demanding something they never made. SC1, WC3 and D1 and D2 were accessible games at the time and anyone could enjoy them.
And trust me, there is enough blind Blizzard hate on TL to go around. And a lot of them pretty much say the enact same thing you said above. Folks like Wolf and myself have seen 3 year going. Some of us are just happy their are new games.
