It's a lot easier to get the Level 3 barn when you have a ton of alts with the barn since the achievement is account-wide and cumulative. Also at level 3 you can look up groups for farming elites in Nagrand. Depending on the group you can get a crapton of traps done in very little time, and with a Skinner follower you'll get more Fur/Leather than you know what to do with.
Although at this point I don't bother. I get enough Fur/Leather from opening boxes on 11 alts that I simply don't need it.
Salvage is pretty critical to getting alts the upgrade tokens they need for their followers, and unless you're putting a lot of time/effort into keeping them running and selling stuff on the AH replacing Salvage with profession buildings isn't really worth it.

I guess to each their own, just saying I like it this way.
Farming, for all its ills, encouraged players to be on for extended periods of time. This, in turn, meant that guildies and friends would tend to congregate online and then be like, "Hey, there's a bunch of us on. Why don't we do something?" Even though farming and similar activities were a chore, they provided that opportunity for spontaneous action.
It's only one part of a web of problems, but not having activities that encourage people to simply be around hurts the social aspects of the game.

Well, i'd like to play for more than 6 to 9 hours a week. I just don't have any way to progress my character in any way that matters to me by playing longer than that.
I could buy items with gold for what equates to vast amounts of real money - three BoE's would cost me about $60-70 i guess - but i can't even buy mythic boosts etc because i'm already locked to mythic every week.
I don't really play an MMO to play it 6 or 9 hours per week, TBH. If i have 20 hours free that week and i can't think of anything meaningful to do in current content, it gets boring and frustrating. It's easier to run into that situation in WOD than it ever has been, and not just a little bit easier.
That lack of stuff to do, lack of anything to farm or do for any kind of meaningful progression, combined with the "I'l sit in my garrison alone/afk" stuff makes the game feel very dead and isolated. I've been in this guild for a while now, over a month, i'm on friend terms with like two people and only ever interact with 3-4 more outside of raids, they're the ones practicing CM golds with me. That's only 1-2 hours every week (which we did twice and then had to take a few week break due to RL obligations of 2 of those people) so it hardly impacts my play time.
^It was exactly that situation in Wildstar, where you had a group of 50-60 people and were very easily quite alone in that group since it was damn near impossible to find anything to do or spend time with other people outside of raid times, and then it's often pretty hard to socialize between raid wipes. I'm pretty damn awful at socializing, but i've made way more close friends through 5 and 10 man content than 20 and 40 man content. Two of my best WoW friends were actually from grouping to do group quests, make dungeon groups and generally level faster in the classic and TBC era, which is just gone now because of the "oneshot everything before level 90" mentality of blizzard where everybody has infinite mana and damage, plus the group finder where most people don't talk or even reply to messaging while leveling.
All in all blizzard - not the players - have made the game "rush to level 100" and then you get there and you raid for typically 6-9 hours a week, but what then? What else? Is that really -IT- for 1.5 to 2 years? That hasn't been -IT- before in any era that i played the game, and that made WoW so much more than it feels like today.

Hey people. Got back into the game recently. Is any of you people using the "rarity" addon ? I'm looking for a list of items for recipes. I had done them previously one by one (it was a real chore) but i thought i backed it up and i didn't T_T
Wod is like really weird. You level SO MUCH FASTER. Got my wife into the game and we hit level 40 in one day and a half. I agree it's good to level faster but for newer player it's so bad since they can't explore zones while leveling. Every time you complete a zone, you have to skip at least the 2 next since everything is grey. Like i'm currently 96 from my mop character and i have not even finished the first WoD zone.

Your wife is a slow leveler
Yea, i got 95 or so from the first zone alone, without heirlooms or exp pots - because i was getting all of the treasures and rares. I skipped two zones entirely, did dungeons 97 to 98 (but not at all aside from that) and didn't break that far into nagrand, so did probably under half of the stuff on draenor.
1-60 is crazy fast. 60-90 becomes tedious because you just have to dungeon queue over and over and over but you've already done that for the last 5-12 hours of 1-60 but this time it takes far longer~, 90-100 is nice.
Are you on alliance?

You can go to 60 in a day now ? Wow that's bs lol. I don't find level 60 being harder to level because that's the content i prefer in the game.
I'm on Horde. I have a toon on alliance but i don''t play it anymore since i really prefer playing my mage since WoD. Shaman feels empty i only log it once in a while to go to poseidus or aeonaxx since the toon is on a reaaaaallly low pop server.

w/ heirlooms, i did 15-41 in about 3 hours queuing as 2 people, even though it went less than half as fast as it would have done with competent damage dealers who could skip trash for the stuff that actually gave good exp. Anyone can buy the 1-60 heirlooms though, you no longer need a high level character.
Also, if you got your wife in through recruit a friend, you'd both get triple experience from 1 to lvl ~90. I have not seen that since WOTLK era, but it's probably crazy by now :D

Oh ok. I only have two heirlooms. I have bought them from the guild merchant. Where do you buy the last heirlooms ? I thought it was only during the fair or something like that.
I'm one of those noobs that don't know how to play and mostly solo stuff to collect mounts and silly stuff. So i know nothing about how to level fast or where to get stuff :p

They reworked heirlooms on patch 6.1 (the patch that we're on now) and put all of the non-guild ones on a vendor in ironforge and undercity for like 500g a pop. That adds them to your heirloom tab which you can then use to generate an infinite amount of that item on any character that you feel like. They start at level 1-60 unless you had them previously (then you get free 1-90 i think) and there are upgrade tokens that take them from lvl 1-60 to lvl 1-90 and then lvl 1-100, IIRC. The last 10 levels are very very expensive and not really worth it, particularly the awful weapons (as you can get crafted lvl 100 stuff at level 91; that starts at item level 630 but is upgradable past that if you have more than a little bit of money)

Alliance have a shitty looking fort while horde gets beautiful buildings. etc... :p (but wanted to know so thank you)

I was thinking of a way to describe it.
Oh well, alliance players getting the tower defence practice needed for when the glorious horde comes knocking
