Please use this thread to discuss the fourth level of the LotV campaign, "Last Stand". This is the second Shakuras mission. Clearly mark spoilers using the spoiler tag. Plot events that occurred in the prologue or Missions 1-3 and 6 do not need to be spoilered. Please spoiler plot events from Missions 4-5 and 8 which can be played before this mission.

Feel free to use this thread to ask any simple questions you might have about the mission, or for tips/help/advice on completing the mission.

Favorite mission so far, has a slow start even on brutal but really picks up in the later stages and going for that stretch goal was pretty difficult. Had to restart a couple times mostly because I didn't realize what I was supposed to do with the towers on my first play through, wasn't paying attention to the explanations.

Go on hotkeys and select Protoss Story and it gives you a bunch of units, probably not all though.

For sure a lovely mission! Hey, i´ve tried to get soalrit a couple of times, and failed.

Every time i tried to hold longer on, till zerg have 1.5 m on the planet, the mission ends instant. You don´t have to push the button, after 1 m zerg, the mission ends. Any suggestions?

I cannot get 1.5 mil on brutal. Gotten to 1.3-1.4 twice. Eventually just stopped trying and went to hard so I could get on with the rest of the story. Are you guys goin with the whirlwind zealot or the stun one?

Other than that, fun mission. The crystals dropping random psi storms, hah

Have your tried delaying to destroy the stones? I destroyed the one with the mutalisks via orbital strike and as long as the stones are not destroyed you can't win the mission


I wonder how hard the mastery achievement will be...surviving till 2.2 billion zerg on hard :D

Make like 10-15 respawning DTs early and then like 20ish Stalkers then just focus all your money on buildings, only wall off with Gateways and put shield batteries in good places. Make sure to maximise the space and try not to leave gaps. When you can't really put any more buildings down just keep warping in Stalkers or more respawning DTs and put them in front of your Gateways to tank damage. Use the timestop ability as often as you can, hitting clumps of Banelings and Guardians is good. At the top where they attack by air, don't bother with cannons just the OP defense structure and shield batteries. Also, Zealots suck on Brutal because they die too fast, mass Stalker is the way to go on almost every mission because with good micro you can save all of them.

Hard is a lot easier than brutal, i think the in utter darkness dt wall strat will do it

Mission is substantially easier if you do Korhal and the other world first, fwiw.

Immortals and Energizer sentries (+50% increased attack speed and +50% increased move speed) are ridiculously strong against the hybrids in the last waves, which makes the entire thing easier as a whole.

You can also splurge for the 'Warp-in Immortals' tech at the Solar Core if you've gotten enough Solarite, which helps with this strategy.

This all said, I didn't start using those new OP defense structures until the end, and then I realized how ridiculously good they were, so maybe I was doing it all wrong.

Did you bother to put anything in the lower ground section (northeast corner) or just leave everything on the high ground?

Everything on the high ground, also put static defense behind your mineral line, they'll be able to shoot the air in the north too.

is there a way to change the order of planets that you did in the archives so u can get immortals, went here instead of korhal first

I got it on brutal using only stalkers, zealots and a couple DTs, expand first then take the towers down to vey low / red HP with your dts and use the calldown strike thing to kill any detection zerg sends to those towers. Then just mass wall with gateways in front and cannons / shield batteries / long range thing behind, go up to about 180 supply in blink stalker (which is all the defense you should need for the top right spawns) and constantly be warping in zealots in front of your wall to tank the baneling shots. Rebuild the wall as necessary.

I don't think Immortals would help that much because you want so much static defense that no unit can get in attacking range until they break your wall at the very end.

One of the two missions where I couldn't trivially get the bonus objective in Brutal.

Feels good to have a challenge
