but much of it will always come down to the mindset of the player. when TBC started I was a casual player with minimal raid experience and I took my time leveling, made friends with other people doing the same thing that I would see in all the zone chats I was in, etc. by the time Wrath launched I was in a top 20 world wide guild and leveling was something that I had to do as quickly as possible in order to keep up and move on with the game. I did it in three days and remember none of it (then I burned out and quit pretty soon after).

Gorsameth noted this, too, but I'll reply here. This is an issue I definitely see both sides of. I never ran back to my trainer immediately after I hit the even levels. Once you get out of convenient range of trainers you're at about 21-23. Levels were slow enough that I don't recall having to take a break from playing very often. My problem with the new system is just how uneventful it feels. From 1-20 alone I missed 2 different skills jumping on my action bar. Wasn't exciting for me at all. Combined with only getting talents every 15 levels, I didn't find myself excited to level very often. Though I concede it may not be as big of a deal now since I'm familiar with all the skills any class would be getting, but getting Divine Shield felt amazing at the time. I played in Vanilla and BC and i honestly enjoyed the old world overhaul more than i did suffering through quests that were practically impossible to do solo, then hoping you could find someone to do the quest with you or calling a 70 friend and having them help me. I have to disagree. From my perspective, the people I met looking for groups to take them on (and the couple I stayed friends with) were worth the quests I had to skip at the time. I'm torn here. On the one hand, having leveled a warrior in Vanilla, I understand completely. On the other hand, having leveled a paladin in BC and fallen in love with the class, I really enjoyed that the class gave me defensive skills to start and forced me to auto-attack only. It was slow, obviously, but it felt so much different, and ultimately made me realize how much I enjoy defensive/support roles in games. As I said before, starting with Crusader Strike at 1 and another powerful offensive skill at 10 just didn't feel rewarding. I never felt like I earned the ability to 2-shot monsters.

How the fuck did you kill a level 70 anything with rank 1 spells? Hell, I hit level 6 and had to grind fucking kobolds in Northshire for enough copper to get my rank 2 and new skills to just move on. Also for the record, I have a lvl 60 on the Emerald Dream 1x Vanilla server. Did a bit of raiding too and everything seemed to work fine for MC and Onyxia. Leveling was just as I remembered it, and all those annoying things that you used to use addons for that were fixed later (Auto-dismount on ability use and dismounting in 6 inches of water come to mind), are still present.

Zangarmarsh is 100% by far my favorite zone to quest/level in so easy on the eyes + the quest hubs are all pretty awesome(i.e alot of quests in one place etc) Leveling in Vanilla/bc actually felt like torture as a rogue/warrior tbh Yea it was pretty torture for paladins as well, none of the specs lent themselves well to early leveling (30s seals and having them consumed by judgement was fun...). I do miss vanilla sometimes, it was definitely more of an open-world feel to it than the last two expansions (MoP/Cata) which have felt extremely linear and for whatever reason more grindy. I'm basically not really playing all that much of MoP and I already took one break this expansion, which is the most breaktime I've ever taken off of the game. I am hugely excited for WoD which I was not excited for MoP so I will definitely be playing more WoW in the future, just not really into grinding more SoO.

All that is left for me is the challenging raid fights, and there aren't even good weekend warrior type guilds with friendly people anymore to do them with, at least not on the servers I've been on lately. PvP is fun but I'd rather just ladder or play an FPS.
