Lemuria is banned, and R'lyeh is soft-banned (aka I'm discouraging it for a newbie game, for your own sake if anything, as I'll play LA Atlantis to kill you if you do ![]() Are the bans because they're so different and thus could complicate things for newbies? They're the only LA nations I've tried (though R'lyeh just a couple of crappy attempts) and they don't seem too powerful at least. Also Lemuria also looks like it should get crushed by Atlantis before late game. On June 17 2014 11:14 Talaris wrote: Is there a way to follow those games as an outsider ? (if yes, how ? ^^) I just played like the tutorial/introduction and 8 or 10 games vs the ai, would really like to see how a game play out. Also, can anybody recommend any site/blog/articles with some beginners guide ? Most of the stuff that I find on forums seems that you really need to extensively know Dominions III, which I don't =/ You've already probably played a bit more than some people who have joined a multiplayer game here. Anyway the game should play fundamentally similarly between real people, just there'll be some diplomacy involved and at least some people will probably play a lot smarter than the AI. http://www.desura.com/games/dominions-4-thrones-of-ascensions/forum/board/the-council-of-sages-strategy-guides Check some guide from there and try it, I especially liked the EA Ulm guide. Also it's probably easier to get to know one nation well first rather than trying everything a little. Reading the manual can also be very helpful. I learned a lot of small things there that were never explained in the guides.

The freespawn nations can be tiresome to micro, and Lemuria in particular has a great deal of hidden power if min-max'd, which can be frustrating for new players to deal with. I'd prefer players' first MP games not to be bogged down fighting endless hordes of freespawn. Asphodel and Ermor are also culprits in the MA, and generally more obnoxious nations to fight compared to Lemuria/LA R'lyeh, but all the same.

All the same as you nominated, no scoregraphs and 4-2-1 thrones, 8 to win. http://www.llamaserver.net/pretAdmin.cgi?game=TeamLiquidGame2 PM me if you want the admin password, by the way.

Sadly, I'm not able to be online on a regular basis due to traveling a lot, but thanks for the offer. dom4mods has Dom4 nation guides, as well on Desura. You're not going to find a definitive database of guides ATM however, as people are still writing/testing stuff out. Thanks, I was following the links in your OP, found some of those. I guess the main problems fore me right now are, that I can follow those beginners guide like the tutorial (and did with a Tien Chi guide), but don't get alot of the slang/technical language of advanced guides. Or don't get the progression paths for Making magical items to reach higher Magic levels - and why you are actually doing this. I was wondering if that's of any importance in multiplayer-games or if this is just some min-maxing in sandbox-games vs the AI when you've basically already won. So, thanks alot for clarifiying that it's not me just being too blind to find some intermediate guides ![]() I guess I'll start with Icapicas pointer to Ulm ![]() You've already probably played a bit more than some people who have joined a multiplayer game here. There is a +1 water item at Construction 6 that only requires Water 1, so you can get to Water 2 on without any help. But there is no simple air booster item less than Air 4. So, if you want attire boosters on your rank and file, you need help from your pretender. It's also important to know how high you want to get. For instance, there is a nice early global that makes nature gems called Mother Oak. It requires Nature 5. So, do you need Nature 5 to get it? No, since there is a +1 Nature item that requires only Nature 2. So you'll need a Nature 4 mage plus that booster to cast it.

Death and Misfortune isn't too bad. Drain Misfortune is the one that's deadly.
