On the controversial issue of always-online: my xbox is always online when it's on, as is every PC in the household. I really won't notice the difference. Your connection isn't the issue, it's theirs. Your connection is much more likely to go out than theirs. Even in the worst cases of "we didn't expect the huge demand on our infrastructure," that has usually been a 2-3 day thing. After that, servers may go down for a collective 8 hours every month.
The risk of losing 2-3 days on every huge game launch. 8 hours collective every month. How is my connection that has failed 2 hours in a span of 5 years for which I was even compensated for more likely to go down?

YOUR connection, maybe not, but for a very large number of other users, yes. Also, it's not every launch, but a select few that had enormous demand that was much greater than expected (like D3 and SimCity). As for the "8 hours every month," that's out of the ~720 hours total in the month, for stuff like upgrades and maintenance.

Not everyone has a stable and fast Internet connection. I do not have one therefore if the new xbox really requires to be always online I will not buy it.

XD I was replying to a user who also had a great connection. But you are right, in general terms "your" connection is more likely to fail than theirs.

I hope you're not using this as pro "always on" argument, because whether it's their connection that fails or yours, the fact remains that you cannot play video games.

They'll have to do some convincing for me to consider it over ps4. We'll see though, most of what's been discussed is either pure speculation or conclusion drawn from small pieces of information.

There is nothing particularly impressive about the PS4 specs :\ It has a really slow CPU (by PC standards) and a GPU comparable to the mid-range of the current PC generation. It is a reasonable upgrade from the previous console generation, but not "impressive" at all.
The only thing that looks great is the 8GB of memory.

Oh PC elitists at their best... This is like a DotA vs LoL vs CoD vs HoN thread now...

the games will be the deciding factor for me. the ps3 vs xbox360 had so many multiplatform games but the PS3 had a few more better first party games and I choice it over the xbox360 at the end and I think I made the right choice. Too many FPS, TPS for the 360 imo

The thing that keeps me wanting to buy a console is because of fighting games.
Can't wait for the new Guilty Gear.

I don't think PC users in this thread are being elitist, they are simply happy that the new console generation will finally enable better content to be produced for the PC. The developers are forced to design their content for the lowest common denominator which currently is the current generation of consoles, but the PC is already miles ahead. Not surprising considering that the current consoles are 7 years old.
To be honest as a PC user I've been quite happy with this, since I can still use my 5 years old PC to play most of the current games, and there is no good reason for me to upgrade, although I think upgrading once every 5 years is quite reasonable. I still remember the times when your PC hardware would be hopelessly obsolete just one year after you've bought it which really sucked :-\

I won't be buying the next xbox if it's always online. My internet is stable, I just don't support the move. Some level of DRM is ok, I'm fine with something like Steam, but what the rumours have been saying about xbox's new always online DRM sound awful.

So basicly, if my internet shut down i can't play games on my console ? Ok.. Got Diablo III, ISP shut down for a month... I don't understand this choice... Wifi disconnect without you noticing... bugging, whatever and the thing shutdown ?
Hope it's not an official thing (i can't get if the OP is things that we suspect or if it's actual fact).

What are you talking about? Of course it matters. Developers these days are quite smart about streaming the data, but saying that increasing the amount of RAM by the factor of 16 means nothing is just stupid. It means much more data can be cached in RAM, which means less loading screens, less texture and model 'popping' and much higher-res textures. Basically stuff that was available in the PC ports of recent games.

Always online is bullshit. I mean even on my PC there are times when I disconnect my internet, and I use my PC for everything. From surfing the internet, online storage, google docs, email, online games, streaming, watching streams, games, downloading, etc... and yet I still don't want internet to be always on.
In fact some of the programs that have no disable of automatic updates I block in the firewall, because I want to have the control of if and when a program connects to the internet.
Plus on the Xbox 720 is would basically be hardcore DRM.

I think they wont do a always on, that would be plain stupid imo. But I guess some other sort of DRM might come into play.
