Xbox One!
http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/microsoft-abandoning-indie-game-developers-xbox-one-6C10037826

Kotaku summary: http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-everything-we-know-509069410

The new Xbox will connect directly to your cable box.

According to the Verge, this will let the machine lay an interface or other features on top of your television screen.

The new Xbox may require an internet connection to play games.

According to Kotaku, games will "suspend" after if the machine is not connected to the internet.
VGLeaks reports the opposite

Regardless of the online requirements, which do not impact me, glad to see console tech finally updating, and adopting more PC features. Can only be good for pushing PC development forward also.

Well if that turns out legit, it'll be interesting to see what they come out with.

It better be good if they're trying to get the "always-online" requirement past us. It is a really tough sell. If we're talking equal power, functionality and games library as the PS4, there won't be a contest.

720 was either a code name, a leaked name, or just what people assumed it would be called. This might be called the 720, or it might not.

Tbh if the console always requires an Internet connection, I probably won't get one.

So, it's basically a computer. I don't get why consoles have been moving towards being more multipurpose lately. Why would I buy a console when for just a few euros more I can get a much more powerful machine that can do everything a console can and infinitely more? They seem to be digging their own graves...

Where are the days of plugging your console in the TV, popping a game in and instantly getting the game loading screen?

And always online! What is fucking wrong with them? Why should a single player game require internet?

Because computers require a degree of competence in setting them up, installing software, doing updates, FINDING the things to consume, etc. The average person is very computer illiterate, and a console where they just plug it in, and can easily do multiple things without dealing with the hassle of managing anything, is very attractive.

in other words, ease of use >> power, in most situations for most people.

As for always online, a ton of people are always connected, and constant connectivity is equivalent to having electricity for many people, so it is reaching the point where it is assumed you are online, and being offline is a rare event.

TL;DR Easy > Powerful
Internet stability == electrical stability

Just like there was a good reason for diablo 3, assassin's creed 2, and sim city 4.

I disagree. Maybe the last generation. But these days kids are growing up with iphones and tampads, they may be noobs at fixing a computer problem should it arises, but using a computer is a no brainer to them. Kids in middle school have facebook now so they should know a lot about computer.

Come to think of it. With how prominent ddosing is becoming, with even banks becoming targets. Who in their right mind would require "always-online"? Whether you will get to play or not is at the mercy of any kid with an allowance of $20 to spend on ruining your experience.

The Dutch goverment DigiD system was down due to ddos yesterday and is down today as well. Meaning people can't use online government services. This can mean anything from not being able to file your taxes online to not being able to manage your monthly student loans. For some things, there isn't even an alternative. Managing your status as a student, how much money you'll loan that month, these can only be handled online.

Also, please don't repeat that retard Adam Orth's argument "Electricity goes out too";
ISPs have issues all the damn time, electrical companies rarely and they're monitored much more closely. Who here hasn't had issues with their ISP at some point or another?
The amount of electricity available in most houses isn't limited or has to be explicitly shared between roommates. IE; I've never been asked to unplug the fridge so someone can do laundry, whereas stopping a download is common.
I reset my modem at least a few times a month, I go without touching the breakers most years.
I don't have to worry that anyone that feels like fucking with me will ddos my electricity.

There. The end. Shitty analogy, shitty argument, shitty Adam Orth. Good luck finding a new job in this industry.

Always online is a deal breaker for me. Not because I have problems with my connection, but because there is just no way the ups(if there will be any at all) for the consumer can outweigh the downs.

It's just a DRM scheme to block used games and in my mind, nothing can justify that. If people actually allow that, you can be sure, that this will be only the first step in many. Games tied to one account will be next. So good luck, if you share games in your family.

Microsoft has to do a lot of work to dispel all of these rumors flying around. Worst thing they could do is to hold a short and very vague conference.

We want details!

That's not the point. Latest Sim City was unplayable for almost a full week because Maxis servers couldn't handle the amount of people. And critical game features were disabled for well over a month to reduce the load.

My internet connection isn't a problem. I really don't trust the service providers (Maxis, Microsoft etc.) server stability. I don't want my Xbox to shut down every time Microsoft has a glitch.
