Because computers require a degree of competence in setting them up, installing software, doing updates, FINDING the things to consume, etc. The average person is very computer illiterate, and a console where they just plug it in, and can easily do multiple things without dealing with the hassle of managing anything, is very attractive.

As for always online, a ton of people are always connected, and constant connectivity is equivalent to having electricity for many people, so it is reaching the point where it is assumed you are online, and being offline is a rare event.

Except the average person in Canada has a maximum download/upload limit of 50-60 gb.
Seems unnecessary to lose such a large segment of the potential buyers.

Seriously, who cares about Casual-Consoles? They will have low-end PC Hardware. Your PC from 2010 will probably be at least as fast as this thing. And I'm not even starting with ridiculous expensive Games, Always-On and all that shit.

PC > GameBoy > No Gaming > Consoles

You will always get a better Gaming-Experience if you order Hardware and build yourself a PC. I paid like 500€ for my PC in 2009 and its still running everything on Max, no Problem.
And because Consoles cannot have High-End PC Hardware, because no one wants to pay ~600$ for a Console anymore - this will still be the Case even with new Consoles.

PC is my main platform yeah, but console exclusives is my main reason for buying Xbox 360.

It connects to your cable box? So does that mean you NEED cable as well?

So basically, Microsoft wants you to have both cable and internet just to even play their freaking console. Amazing decision right there... oh wait, I don't have cable and half the reason to have a console is for when you're somewhere without internet.

Quick its a console thread, we need a computer buff to tell us how wrong it is to buy a console!

You're a liar, with a 500PC from 2009, there is no way you are running everything well on max.

I think people with internet will come to realize that always online makes for a better gaming experience and then they'll stop complaining. People with no internet or bad internet will either not buy it or buy a PS4.

Always online leading to a better gaming experience is a big strawman. My ipad is a better experience when it's online but I can still freaking use it when it's not. There's no real benefits to forcing an always online mode for a console. Or did you skip over the word "always?"

Also I don't know what starcraft game you have been playing but I can play offline just fine. Oh no I lose achievements, the horror.

Not everybody can afford to buy a $1000+ PC and keep it up to date. Shit, not everybody can handle the incredible power that the mouse and keyboard gives.

I never use consoles myself, for whatever reason I picked up an xbox 360 for $120 a while ago and used it for about 8 hours and never touched it again. That said, I understand the appeal for casuals or people who -REALLY- want the exclusive titles (but why do people actually like Halo, I have no ****ing clue).

Anyway, it's a good option to get decent games for cheap and exclusives. However, if the upcoming Xbox turns out to be always online, I sincerely hope that people will boycott it into oblivion and buy PS4's instead. That's what it's looking like so far.

There are 2 Games I would like to play: Read Dead Redemption and UFC Undisputed 3 - thats not worth buying a terrible console and playing these games on 1280x720 without AA, AF and a Gamepad...

consoles dominate gaming market, games are actually designed with consoles in mind (majority).

who really cares about highest end graphics anyways. i'm actually 100% ok with 360 graphics. the only stupid shit about this is you 'need to be online' to play. wtf.

conosles aren't 600 bucks, more like half that price, you can get a 360 for like way less than that now.

360 was never 600 bucks brand new. i dont remember any console costing that much unless you'r willing to pay a stupid premium day of release.

One of the main reasons people bought current gen systems is due to them being a multipurpose blu-ray player. With Microsoft requiring them to be online just excommunicates the part of the market which in turn will reduce their sales. The thing is PC's always seem to outclass consoles and will continue to do so. Microsoft tries really hard to strive for convenience and by doing so restricts them greatly. What I mean by my previous sentence is when you have less space to work with you can't put in the big fat high performance video card etc.. etc..

All in all I think they won't get huge sales numbers outside of their exclusives IP's if they choose to make sequels such as Fable 4,Halo 17.

Never was much of a xbox fan, but we knew this was coming. Will be interested to see the exclusive games they have, 360 was pretty weak with that. I hope the always online is not true, because I think that is just silly and will hurt them. Unless MS is gonna make the US internet infrastructure #1 lol.

720 was either a code name, a leaked name, or just what people assumed it would be called. This might be called the 720, or it might not.

It will be called the 420, making it more endearing to the average customer.

We don't know anything for sure. I've read both that it requires always-on and that it doesn't. Same goes for used games.

What all sources seem to agree on, however, is that it will have pretty much the same AMD CPU/GPU as the PS4, meaning it will be just as easy to make games for. If it runs a version of Windows 8 (as it was rumored) it will bring it even closer to a PC, and Metro should, in theory, work well with the controller.

Weak exclusive games compared to what? pS3? Wii? I don't see what was so grand about their exclusive games--Uncharted and Mario/Zelda. And none of them were worth picking up a ps3 or Wii for.

Xbox live is a wretched hive of scum and villiany and preteens figuring out the most obnoxious noises they can make. The idea of being forced to connect to it every three minutes in order to play games is TERRIFYING to me
