There's definitely been enough "hints" that you can speculate about things. It's up to Microsoft to prove the doubters wrong and so far they have a lot to prove. | ||

The gaming hardware industry is coming to a very crucial point this Christmas. The two new generations of console, plus the new steam box(es) are coming out at the same time. Also with the rise of "Casual" Gaming (Tablets, Oyua (however you spell it) etc), the industry has become extremely competitive, with rather low profit margins. E.G Consoles being sold at a loss, just to get them into houses, with money being recouped through game sales. Microsoft can't afford to make a mistake at the moment. Or they will lose out big time. I honestly can't see the console being always online (At least on launch). I will be flabbergasted if it is. and it will be a HUGE mistake IMHO if they do. Starcraft is not always online. How can you think that it is?! You can still play without an internet connection. The only things you lose are Multiplayer (pretty obvious that one) and achievements (OH noes!). You can play up to 30 days with out an internet connection. After the 30 days are up, the game reverts to the starter edition until it connects again. But if you have a save of the game completed on you hard disk, you can still play any campaign mission you want (I work on boats for up to 5 weeks at a time, so I have had to deal with this). | ||

glad to see console tech finally updating, and adopting more PC features. Can only be good for pushing PC development forward also. I am not so sure. As consoles have decisively won the video game market, certain notable PC games are being consolized and their PC versions are just fainty disguised ports that depend on hours of free work by modders to make them enjoyable. Look at Skyrim, on PC its basically an xbox port. Terrible UI, simplified combat. The only hope for true PC games are either (a) a developer who would rather make a great game rather than just make money hand over fist or (b) a developer who is like Blizzard, with a giant cash cow like WoW that lets them splurge on something like SC2. | ||

According to Kotaku, games will "suspend" after three minutes if the machine is not connected to the internet. Sounds like it's diablo 3 ready :p, but it's according to kotaku, not exactly a reliable source. Anyhow very interested to see what ms are going to bring to the next generation! | ||

I don't care too much i stopped using my 360 a long time ago. I am almost solely PC with the exception of Nintendo first party titles. | ||
