I'm not even going to go into the story, its way too good/complicated to talk about i think.. But as far as assassin's creed 3, the ship battles and the mechanics involved were golden. I was pretty disappointing that it wasn't an integral part of the story more less optional. I even really quickly thought what if you have the ship more customizable such as with Villa Auditore, and had a crew you hire and level up like in brotherhood or revelations, or even with their own back-story like in 3.

I really want to be able to control the direction of the ship in some sort of larger sandbox ocean or sea segments. Move around the ship while its sailing and interact with it and the crew. Set out anchor and treasure hunt, or board another ship and pillage. Really, with how cool the naval battles were in 3, i think they can make the best assassin's creed yet with some pirate stuff.
We do what we must, because we can

World premier of AC4's gameplay and it looks more polished than AC3 in terms of graphics. I am very eager to see the next generation version of this game.

I'm curious if the protagonist is actually going to be an Assassin or just someone who uses their skills.

I don't want to get my hopes up, but this game looks much better than AC3 so far, basically what I expected AC3 to actually be. Much more polish and learned from the issues that AC3 suffered from. Also probably a better character too.

We'll see

Hm.. so the protagonist is Edward Kenway. In AC3 we had Haytham Kenway...hm... strange indeed

Considering that Edward is a pirate trained by Assassins, I can see him being like Ezio and Connor. Both used the Assassins to achieve their goal. The difference between Ezio and Connor is that Ezio stepped up to the mantle of being the leader of the Roman Assassins and eventually the Mentor to all the Italian Assassins. We do not know Connor's life after the events of AC3 so far, but I would assume he did the same since the Assassins in North America was almost extinct, which left Achilles to be the last surviving Assassin (Templars spared his life out of mercy and pity, but only if he stops being an Assassin and training new apprentices).

Don't get your hopes up. The game was being developed concurrent with AC3. The problems that AC3 has a chance of being in AC4. If by better character you mean an Ezio copy, then sure. Nothing new.

Read the thread. Edward is the father of Haytham and grandfather of Connor

Isn't it being pushed to next gens though? I mean, the major issue(s) I had with AC3 were primarily graphical issues. Really the main reason I stopped playing it at some point. Took me out of it. If those were resolved I would have had a fine time with AC3, even if it wasn't as good as some of its predecessors on other levels.

I could not even play more than 2-3 hours of AC3 without dying cause of boredom. I can't believe that there are people who still want to play this terrible terrible Game.

Yeah, it's going to be on next gen consoles, but footage of it haven't been shown yet. Since the game is being on all platforms, you can expect some of the same problems until we get a full fledged next gen game.

Different tastes. People can say the same thing about Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2. Besides some of the new changes, the core game is still there, which you can say the same about almost any other game in their respective series.

Overall, the game is better than AC3 in terms of story and stealth, but some of the bugs/glitches in AC3 is still in AC4... As for the main character, Edward Kenway, he is a good character. They handled him much better than Connor, who I thought had potential, but was wasted.

I could do nothing but sail on open water for hours in this game. Half the game is usual Assassins Creed and you already know if you like/hate that. The other half is pure awesome pirate shit.
Only the weak link is strong enough to break the chain.

Looks like the sort of game I'd maybe pick up in a year or so when it was £20 if I had nothing else to do, which is unlikely.

Not that it looks bad, but nothing about it jumps out as essential and from what I've read there's a lot of filler and 'stuff' to do which lacks context. The pirate stuff looks cool but I can see it getting stale after a while as the ships seem kinda small and there doesn't appear to be much in terms of strategy and mechanics to taking them over.

Time will always tell if I'm wrong though but I think this generation is going to see open world stuff explode in quality so I'm sceptical that these last-gen games will stand the test of time.

How does the game run on PS4 ? My biggest grips I had with AC2 and AC2B on PS3 was that the game had huge FPS drops and constant slow loadings making me rage hard when I had to replay sections. Playing Revelations on my computer felt so much better.
But for AC4 I don't know how my PC would fare compared to a PS4 so I'm wondering if the game is smoothed and fast loading on that one.
Either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.

Most of the reviews for the PS4 version have been very positive. The difference between the PS3 and PS4 isn't huge because Ubisoft stated that the game was built for current gen in mind, but the game does look nicer on the PS4, of course. The PS3 version is similar to AC3's problems with fps drops here and there, sound cutting out sometimes, background music disappearing and then reappearing later, etc. AC4 does look better than AC3 since you're exploring tropical islands, sailing across the oceans, etc. AC4's cities have a little more color compared to AC3's Boston and New York. They just announced that the PS4 version will receive 1080P support

The PlayStation 4 version of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will run at a native 1080p resolution, but will require a title update to do so, according to an update on the official Ubisoft blog.

Without the patch, Assassin's Creed 4 will render at 900p and be upscaled to 1080p resolution on PS4. Ubisoft communications manager Gary Steinman explains why there's a discrepancy between the game that shipped and the title update Ubisoft is rolling out after launch.
