https://www.gameinformer.com/preview/2018/06/12/impressions-and-details-from-50-minutes-of-gameplay

This writer is very positive about what he saw so far. He came in expecting TW3 with a reskin, and got anything but that. It details the combat and gameplay more than other previews, and how quests can progress. Apparently a much greater emphasis on choice and consequence, and a more natural dialogue system compared to TW3. Guy was impressed with the first person combat.

TBH I like the old teaser a lot more, if only because it was unabashedly moralistic. While I don't mind the choice in aesthetics, the pacing of the new trailer gives me the feeling that it's more about being fun and cool. Personally I believe cyberpunk or any sci-fi should always carry some philosophical musing or social commentary, so I hope this won't turn out to be a futuristic Bethesda or GTA game. Still I've never played any of the Witcher games, so looking forward to it.

Well, the original PnP CP2020 was pretty heavy into corporationism, cyborgization and mass culture. I believe that the first two were done plenty of times before (Deus Ex, Shadowrun) but the last part: the mass culture, media and just general lifestyle of everyday people in ad-bombarded society was not. This is where I believe the game could shine, focusing more on the spiritual aspects, fashion and society's soul in general.

The old trailer was also filled with the worst of cyberpunk trash, hot sexy cyborg lady who’d might murder you, but might also bang you, who knows? Look at all that gray area, in the night, in the pouring rain, with all this black body armor.

That trailer looked like it fell out of the 1990s comic books and lacked mohawks.

I mean, that's basically what the "punk" half of the genre term means. It's the seedy underbelly or rebellious undertones of a universe.

It's worth nothing that the 2013 teaser that set the impression for this game was never intended to be the blueprint for the final project. CDPR hired Platige Image and gave them a brief idea of what they wanted. Then Platige were given free rein on presenting it. They created a very effective and memorable teaser, but an ultimately misleading direction. Being a teaser and recruiting ad, it reflects the spirit of what they were aiming for, not the end result.

I am so damn excited for this game. Honestly I haven't been this excited since the announcement of SC2. I adore cyberpunk as a genre, and I'm tired of all the bleak, dreary Blade Runner'esque noire that people consider synonymous with cyberpunk.

I cannot express just how happy I am to see so much color in a cyberpunk game. Finally! Thematically you can achieve so much more contrast with a palette that is filled with all shades of color in addition to the bleak, dystopian colors we've all come to expect.

I love that CDPR is taking a different approach with first person and not just following the model of the Witcher 3.

The image above just made me realize the Kerrigan influence on that character design.

Actually, what this is is BigRipp cyberweapon, as described (and depicted but in a bit different loadout) in Chrome Book 4 for CP2020 (released in 1996).

I hope this game will turn out good, even if I'm not a fan of sci-fi and cyberpunk. I'm almost done with all The Witcher books which I wanted to read before playing the games. I starter TW years ago, but the combat system turned me off. I hope I'll be able to get into it knowing more about the universe. I like games that are mainly story driven, which TW kinda becomes. I'd love it if it had combat more akin to Soulsborne, but it's not. I'm sure they'll be able to make a decent story in CP2077, but I mostly hope the gameplay has improved.

Imo you shouldn't bother with the first two Witcher games if you've read the books. TW3 is just a much better game.

Witcher 1 has tons of backtracking which really put me off and the combatsystem is more a rythm game than anything else.
Witcher 2 is cool but the combat system is pretty bad.
Witcher 3 is awesome and there is even a new patch that improves the allready "ok" combat in like every aspect.

Hmmm. I understand that TW3 is the best, but how much do I miss from what happens in TW1 and 2 if I don't play them? I think I'll at least give them a try to see how it works out.

You can read a wiki or just catch up. The stories are good fine, but you will get burned out on the series before you reach 3. Those first two games have some of the worst onboarding and tutorials I have seen in all my time playing RPGs. And the balance curve is not great. I love CDPR, but their UI and combat design have to be the weakest part of their games and the part you end up spending an unreasonable amount of time with.

One day I will tell the man who is obsessed with candles and have every letter in my inventory exactly what I think of his design decisions. But only in person.

I preferred TW2 to TW3. I can see that 3 is a better game, but it was far too goddamn huge and I just gave up about half way through it because although it was an amazing experience, I didn't feel like I was ever going to finish it. I could sit and play for 5 hours and feel no closer to finishing than when I started, which is fine for some time but it just wore me down after a while.

TW2 has an amazing story, replayability due to branching paths and just the right amount of detail and world building.

that's actually the first time I've ever heard that being a negative. a game was TOO good and had TOO much content, so it's a negative. I will agree it's large, and perhaps will scare someone off from replaying it especially those who are a completionist (I actually went to get all the treasures marked in the sea in Skellige) but i don't know how i feel about cyberpunk. For a company like CDRP you would think you'd want some sembalance of their original franchise, some type of feel for it. I really loved the how the battle system is dynamic in a way where the zoom of it is far out and you can see the environment, those who surround you, kinda plan your space to move. it's more spacious.

i will say the delay is getting into the KH3 threshold of when will this game come out? along the likes of the mythical GTA6. hope it comes out soon.

There is such a thing as a game that does not fit into your life. There are plenty of games I think I would enjoy that I do not have the time for. If someone gets W3 and suddenly realizing they ever finish due to life, that could be a negative for them. These are not objective metrics we are talking about there.

You're correct, but no one really thinks of that as an objective metric as you say, mobas like dota itself would be invalidated as a whole. the completion of these games don't require anywhere near the amount of time invested to get good at say sc, sc2, dota, online competitive franchises in general. so I don't see the metric even being an argument.

witcher 3 is the exception to the rule and is basically the new standard.

I disagree with the concepts of standards and baselines in general. All value is inherently subjective and the only way we real understand why we like or dislike something is through careful self review. Or just enjoying the thing and not trying to rate it on a scale. I love flawed, broken games because they are normally shooting for something new. That doesn’t make them good.

Witcher 3 is a staggeringly good game. It was also a huge risk that could have destroyed the studio and was built with a lot of crunch/less than great labor practices. Ever RPG cannot be that, which is fine. I dont' want every game to be the W3 in size and scope. That is to much.
