"Lambda Core" is not the end of the game but it is close. end of the game takes place in Xen. i didn't know english well when i played the original half-life so i missed all of the dialoges and the story. trailer looks sweet!
There's a story? I must have missed that as well. I never understood why the hell I was firing a rocket into space or what I was doing in a trash compactor, but it was good times.
There is a story, but it's really all up to the player to discover it. The beauty about VALVE's games is that you can play it any way you want: if you want to play for story, you can. If you want to blast through it, you can as well.

The story was just one of parts i would say it was smaller part. The fact that your character was thrown into certain chain of events starting from opening sequence (which was mind-blowing at the time) was they key that defined later narration of fpses and other genres. It was like participating in a movie, when you look at mass effect nowadays you see that it all started from half-life.
...why exactly don't you just play the original? How is this going to be better than the original? Only because there are more shiny things? Especially because Half Life isn't as old. It is not Wolfenstein. The movement is still the same in today's games. It is also not Monkey Island, where you can count the pixels and a remake made sense. RealMyst is an example of a good remake, where the gameplay was actually changed. I really do not understand this.
Why exactly don't you just play the new version if you haven't played the first one? How is it going to be worse than the original? Only because there is less bad graphics? It's not like it's a full priced game or anything.

ok, it has better newer graphics and is cheaper. However, many gamers consider Half-Life to be one of the best games ever made. Thus, it is not easy to give you a similar experience by copying it. I think this is very obvious.

Because people are eager to see their old classic games in TODAYS world. At least for me, i think that half-life was the first fps i ever played. After that came counter strike and all that jazz (1.5 ftw).
Maybe its just more shiny, bloomy game to you, but to me it is not. I have all my respect for these devs, who did this for fun. Modelling, texturing, mapping, dialog lines, sound FX, SOUNDTRACK, configuring the AI, and thats just the tip of the iceberg.
As an aside, why didn't the continue the Half Life series?
I remember playing the first game and loving it and having friends over to play the second game, which I loved even more. But that was years ago, so why did the discontinue this super successfull franchise?
