wtf I thought there was a point before that pipe part where they teach you to crouch jump...how did that guy get up to that point not knowing how to crouch jump LOL

Yeah, as soon as I started playing, I quit right away and looked for the Hazard Course on the main menu.
Anyway, I'm having a fun time playing it when I have free time, I don't know what there is to complain about!
... Aside from the insane motion sickness I got before I realized to turn off the bobbing in the options.

this remake is so awesome, best game ive played in years

its so cool to re-visit the half-life universe after such a long time. also, the level design is still awesome even by todays standards. such a claustrophobic feeling crawling around in that huge underground complex

Total Biscuit moans about everything, it's embodied in his "cynical" image. I can't bring myself to look or listen to him a lot of the time. He can be very informative, but when he's not he's just arrogant (when he started flaunting the fact he was no longer a virgin on the TGS podcast as if that made him superior to his fans and that it was some kind of achievement or some shit I nearly turned it off, he needs to look in a mirror) and depressing. He can deliver a wealth of information very well, but when he starts discecting it and presenting his opinion, it's often nauseating to listen to.


Black Mesa hit the perfect blend of a reimagining and a recreation. A blind emulation of the orginal Half Life with Half Life 2 physics and graphics wouldn't have worked anywhere near as well as the upgraded version they ended up with. Sure, you get the crowbar later on, but that opening section is a lot more intimidating when you have to rely on a couple of flares and a security guard to protect you. It's not often in video games you have to entrust AI to that level, and whether or not you think it makes for poor gameplay, it's at the very least refreshing.


Black Mesa feels a million times more alive before the resonance cascade, and the entirety of the facility feels a lot more like a legitimate science facility. Some rooms before, such as an empty space with a wooden table (and no chairs) in the middle are now a fully decorated and functional cafeteria. Little things like that add up to a much better and believable experience. That said, it never loses sight of what made the original so amazing.


Black Mesa is nothing short of a triumph.

Black Mesa is so awesome. They just made a re-made a game with so much love for detail and it feels just....right... ♥♥

Look at this Valve and think about hiring all the people for HL³.

EA devs should go on a strike and tell their CEOs to allow the community to make mods and maps again.

Is it normal the game ends when you're supposed to take a portal to the alien world? :o I was reading a walkthrough of HL 1 to help me when I was stuck, and this part seems to be missing in black mesa.
Edit : NVM, found a video walkthrough and it's normal, very odd tho

If you had bothered to read any of this thread, you'd know that this release of Black Mesa is just part 1. Part 2 is coming soon.
I like the way the walls go out. Gives you an open feeling. Firefly's a good design. People don't appreciate the substance of things. Objects in space. People miss out on what's solid.

Just wanted to say that this game is absolutely incredible.

I am quite close to the end with it (taking my time) and I just cant believe the outstanding work that the modders have done.

Best Halflife 2 game by far. All it needs is a bit of bug fixing and the adding of the final level and the game is instantly a masterpiece.

Oh and also, they need to fix the jumping asap. Although there is a way of setting the jump height to the old Halflife 1 height. It really is a pain to jump-crouch everywhere.

Located at: <Steam installation folder>\steamapps\sourcemods\BMS\cfg\skill.cfg
Find and change these to:
bms_normal_jump_vertical_speed "200"
bms_normal_jump_crouch_vertical_speed "200"

I too want to thank the developers of black black for their truly great work. I felt it was like playing HL1 as i felt the same excitement. The only thing I can complain about is that the game wasn't as long as the original Valve version but after several hours of great gameplay it's only lonesome cloud in a bright sky.

Inputting special characters into chat should no longer cause the game to crash.

Actually, even of the levels they published, they removed quite a bit of gameplay. On A Rail is like a 45-50 minute level in the original game, versus about 15 in BM. Just about the same thing is true for Surface Tension.
I like the way the walls go out. Gives you an open feeling. Firefly's a good design. People don't appreciate the substance of things. Objects in space. People miss out on what's solid.

I have to praise the game music, just really well-done especially the new mesa remixes.

The entire sound tracks found in the game can be downloaded from the official website.
