The latter. Poland got split between its neighbours as per usual, losing the PU in the proces. Suddenly, I'm looking at Europe and they got their old cores back. And a huge amount of new territory to the east to go with their stylish new shade of red.

AI doesn't cheat for money... Could maybe convince myself of France and Austria's uber wealth but frankfurts 1 province with 13 income... yeah right. Meanwhile me and England are living in reality. I haven't lost a war in well over 100 years running on patch 1.8 all expansion no mods. I'm hoping this is a bug.

They have 13 income and 11k treasury that doesn't seem right to me at all they don't have enough trade power to be gaining the wealth from that node. My wealth is actually much higher as you can see from the number of merchants I have. I had unify my fleets back in europe to deal with france/netherlands they had over 120 heavy ships now they got 1  so lost about 80 income a month from not having then patrolling. I've never gone over force limits haven't built any buildings other than the uniques and yet i'm completely broke and like 9 400 ducat loans in debt.

France literally has like 100 years of 100% of its income saved up guess they've had no army/fleet maintenance, no advisor maintenance, no negative events, haven't recruited any troops/fleets and they apparently maintained that income without increase or decrease over that period

if you're having money issues in 1.8 you're probably using your merchants wrong. here's my Hansa campaign in 1.8 at a little past your current time:

admittedly, merchants republics do have a bunch of advantages in that area, and I did optimize my trade empire quite a bit (using vassals to steer trade) but still, 1k trade income should not be particularly difficult to manage. Did you gank Castile for Andalucia early? That single province accounts for something like 20-25% of Sevilla's trade power at game start, if I recall.

Some weird shit went down in my Ouchi game. I hate being dragged into War for the Emperor wars too early, so I didn't ally any Daimyos after the first one. Apparently Japan noticed this and declared an "Annex Daimyo" war. I managed to trap all the enemy armies on an island and hold them there with naval superiority, and eventually peaced out with just War Reparations from Japan.
This seems to have fucked the system, I'm still a Daimyo but I'm not Japan's vassal, I can't declare on other Daimyos without calling in all of Japan, and Korea has also declared me a rival. Not really sure what I'm supposed to do from here, wait for a War for the Emperor? Will Japan re-declare on me when the truce runs out?

japan will probably redeclare as soon as truce runs out, basically you are independent now, best way to still get to uniting japan is probably waiting for one of the remaining daimyos to declare on japan and then pile in on the loser for some quick landgrabs, rinse and repeat until you annex entirety of japan :S

wow, I think I'll start a new Byzantium game. Get Austria as ally, in the first war against the Ottos take the one province at the other side of the second strait crossing and then sell it back and watch them get like 300% overextension and rebellions all over the country :D

They are, but also fighting the Mamluks. The Mamluks are putting up a fight, so all Ottoman resources are occupied for the coming months. I tried allying France earlier because I saw this coming, but the great power malus was too high. My generals suck and all 3 of them have a good general in charge. There's no way I'll come out of this war without giving Aragonese cores back etc.

3 province empire - I only own Pomerania's starting provinces (TO / LO / Brandenburg are vassals)
Pretty interesting way to play, though getting vassal income + vassal force limit contributions ideas are a must lest your vassals realize they could actually kill you.

Only if their attitude is hostile.

My fanclub (coalition) is pretty tiny as well.. a couple of Italian minors, thats it. I wish Serbia could form some sort of cool balkan cultural union country. Byzantine cores expire at 1594, I think I'll gobble up a bit more of Poland, and then go dismantle the turkomans with help from Austria and Muscovy (Muscovy if they start to actually act like they usually do, Moscow itsself is surrounded by enemy borders, a GH owned Vladimir, Tver owned Rzhev and the usual Lithuania. Tver is even a GH vassal. I think this is the first time I've seen the AI beat Muscovy short term. Hopefully for my alliance not long term.
