I wouldn't trust those mouseovers, they have the tendency to be pretty random crap.

And even if they get a PU on you, you can still fight them whenever they are weak with the freedom CB, whatever it is called.

Well, got lucky and got an heir.

Anyway, the HRE just happened. It's mostly the fault of France. Had 3 vassals and Austria went to war with me. France joined but had only 20k of his 100k+ in France. Around 80k were donking around in India where he had 3 whole provinces...
So alone vs Austria+vassals+Sweden etc, I hold well in the beginning but eventually lost. He demanded the release of my three vassals and some 400 ducats. And so he got a lot of authority and pushed the all vassal reform though. After that it was only a matter of time. I was also at war with Russia against Poland, Lithuania, Sweden and France. I owned all their asses with my 80k army, even the 100k which came from France(after he brought some troops back). Got my territory from Poland and even my alliance with France back(at the cost of dissolving the one with Prussia for some days).
As it looks now, HRE has about 220k troops, then Ottomans, France, Russia and me with around 90k(-_-). If all of us work together, we should still win against him. Right now I have no possiblity to get to some of my provinces...

And the game is over. Managed to do rather well. Beat the HRE two times. One time with Russia's help and one time alone. I forced them to release some vassals which I annexed later, except for Saxony. I even went so far as to break the truce, so that I can annex them before they ally someone. I also beat the Ottomans with ease. My army totally raped everyone, even the other western nations. I killed easily over 100k of HRE's army and barely lost anything? Squishing 30k+ stacks? No problem. Military and Prussians ideas for the win, I guess ^_^
Also, after I pummeled the HRE the second time, they were in a war with the Ottomans and that peace steal was sick.

Started a game as Austria and did rather well until France decided to attack one of the HRE members and I decided to defend, expecting around 12 nations vs France pretty much alone would be enough. Well, couldn't have been more wrong. He owned everyone of us and after probably 10 years or more of constant fighting, I managed to get a white peace because he never got the target province. I had no manpower though and had to take several loans for mercenaries(wasn't that bad though, I quickly paid them back after the war). And I never got my manpower back because of religious turmoil whichs is completely garbage. Probably over half my provinces flipped thanks to the event, it wasn't even funny. I eventually formed the HRE with some difficulty(only because of France). I did also well in converting all the small provinces to the proper faith and keeping them small, so that as many join as possible. After that, I had like 150k troops but the thing was, my heir died in a hunting accident and despite tons of marriages(how the fuck do you have only one heir at age 60+?), I had to accept the event which increases the national revolt risk. And that was the last thing to break me...like two uprisings in one month with 20+ troops? Fuck off. Gonna stop playing that game even though I did so well at first -_-

Also, damn cardinals don't die, had all 5 at some point right before that.

I still am so happy they patched in the auto spend on the cardinal points. Please continue posting your games, it is entertaining to see.

Do many people like to start on different dates? I've played in most areas at the start date. Any interesting countries/times to play in?

DDRJake's Foix / Golden Horde campaigns. Rather light on the cheese (for DDRJake standards) and very solid strategic gameplay.

If you're looking for one on a newer patch I would suggest the Novgorod let's play.
If you don't care about patch I liked his Takeda achievement run one, it is quick too.
If you're looking for a multiplayer one then the Sunni strikes back is best.
I watch a little too much Shenryyr I think.

Started a new Austria game. I'm doing extremely well so far. Managed to convert everything, keep France in check(they haven't got any HRE territory) and the Ottomans aren't that far(though, they are stronger than in my last playthrough). And just now I managed to vassalize every single nation in the HRE thanks to 100 imperial authority and waiting+feet-kissing. Hungary is also in a PU under me. Looked bad when I had no heir and then a heir with a weak claim and a regency and bla, but I survived everything...
Interesting is, Muscowy got owned by Novgorod in the beginning and they were rather small. Now they are striking back though, with Sweden as allies.

And I invested so much...

The Papal State in my HRE? Lol. They owned Kassel for whatever reason, they also inherited another povince before that but I annexed that.

I'm not getting bored, it's only my third and a half game right now(and rebels on normal can definitely make your life miserable). Also, raising the difficulty doesn't make the AI smarter. They just get more boni etc.
After this I will probably not play in Europe and instead go for Japan or something.

Novgorod didn't make it. Crimea is getting big and Portugal colonized the east of Asia(which can't be seen on the screenshot).

Ottomans invasion, eh? We can do it just as well.

I got some troops, but rebels are just scary

I'm impressed that the game is not taking up very much disk size, yet has so much content. Is the EU4 engine really good at keeping file sizes down

Save games are around 25-30mb each though so if you do like me and give every save a new name your save game folder will end up being 77 gb large :-|

I only play Ironmode and the files are always between 40 and 50mb there.

By the way, I finished my Austria game. It was pretty much a cake walk with all those vassals. Could have conquered more, but eh, didn't do it. Also did some nice event which caused tons of nationalist rebels to spawn and my vassals didn't help one bit. It was like 1795 or 1796 when that happened and I had the option to either pay...dunno, 300 of admin, diplo and military points or get 200 or 300 admin points but also stacks of rebels somewhere. I didn't expect this many to spawn and I also didn't expect my vassals not helping me. In the end, around 8 or 9 nations got their independence and were at war with me. I micromanaged everything and eventually got them back, without ever white-peacing them out(what AI nations always do). Took me around 20 years or so...what a sick event.
Funny thing is, my game crashed when I wanted to accept rebel demands from the Champagne faction. They had a 155k stack and I didn't want to bother with it. Tried again but it crashed again.
And what sucks, I formed the HRE on the last day, with everyone inside and also got the statistics screen at the end. But when I load the Ironman save from the last day, I have formed the HRE but without all my vassals. Those are still there and I also have 48 diplo-relations. When I hover over their relation, it says that they have no knowledge of me. Sigh, should have formed the HRE on 1st January, now I have this buggy save and it really bothers me.

Started a new game as the Uesugi clan this time. Conquered two other Daimyos relatively quickly and annexed Japan afterwards(and thus became Japan myself). With this I had one vassal and one ally who didn't leave me and two other guys. Some years later, one of them attacked my ally, I came to defend, took the lead in the war and annexed him. Then my royal marriage with the Shiba clan ended, I attacked him and took his provinces. Afterwards, the same with the guy who dropped the alliance after that. Immediately following that, I integrated my vassal and thus had formed Japan.
Ever since, I'm just colonizing more and more. Ottomans aren't doing too well, they lost a war to some scrubs which set them back a lot. Muscowy got annexed by Novgorod and two of the minors there. Worst of all though, QQ colonized the Maldives which were mine to take...

I really hate how certain tech groups have a negative modifier for their monarch point generation. I don't mind the increased tech cost but geez does it make it not fun to play those nations. Started an ethiopia game and have conquered or made my vassal of everyone on the east cost and am pushing into yemen, or I was before the mamluks allied them. So I can't exactly expand too much without having to face huge penalties in combat. Any suggestions for quick westernization? I am only on tech group 2 in all areas, have a decent monarch, and am currently sitting on loads of dosh. Should I just wait the 50 odd years to get exploration tech group, move to the other coast near portugal/castile colony and westernize from that?

How do the Nomad tech groups play out? I've never really bothered to play one yet and was thinking about starting a game with one. Which one would be a good one to learn about them on? The tims?
