I agree, over the sea. Sparta isn't a slouch early on.

Is there anything i can do except choose Rome or lose? well, the limited experiences anax and i have made seem to support the assumption that rome is pretty fucking strong. but i'd say you just need to try stuff out (egypt sucks imo) and see with what you're successful.

I never played with other faction, but I know how to counter them.

Extremely limited experience with chariots in Rome II, but they have higher defense scores in this game. I say that because in Rome I, they had a starting defense of 1; brandish a spear at them the wrong way, and they'll tip over. Jock, I'm busy the next few days, but I'd be glad to practice and learn with you. ![]()

I tried this in an ai battle but if you stagger every other unit back in a checkerboard style ish thingthe enemy will be natualy attacked to your flanks BUT the units that don't take contact initially will push those units out and get a flanking bonus on them and slaughter them to take a huge advantage. you're basicaly defending a spot and then counter attacking when you get attacked. all within the breath of a few seconds and its done automaticaly with the move past push mechanic of the phalanx.

ooooooo x_x_x_x _x_x_x o_o_o_o xoxoxox _x_x_x As can be seen here, once the lines crash into each other, every second o will split up to flank the x's, and then get flanked by the second row of x's while doing this. If your first line of troops can withstand that pressure, this seem like a reasonable way to quickly decide the frontline. A lot of this would be dependent on how the engine handles that specific scenario, and how troops split up, and since i don't own Rome 2 i can't really say anything about that. I am pretty sure that in earlier games, the main group of the "flanking" o's would still continue to look forward, and thus not get flanked by the second row of x's, while the sides of them destroy the first row of x's. But considering that everyone says that stuff breaks formation faster in rome 2, it could work.

That way, it even removes the flanking debuff.
