Does anyone know his name, and if I kill him will I get his armor? I looked all over the wiki and forums and stuff but can't figure out who he is.. His name is Marvelous Chester. He does drop his armor if you kill him as a human where he sells stuff. He also invades you later as a phantom, but will not drop his armor upon defeat as a phantom.

I am having trouble aimming my bow while zoomed: i feel as if the iron sight is locked to some sort of a grid. Does this have to do with mouse sensitivity or something? There are a lot of light armor sets which looks amazing but is not very practical. I would love to wear something like the painting guard/shadow set if they didn't have bad armor:weight ratios. I used to care a lot more about being <50% weight. However the additional defenses from the black iron set (then the Havel's set) allows me to tank hits really well. I would just swap in havel's ring and a few lighter pieces if I need the faster rolls. Having very high defenses also allow me to just two hand weapons (for a long time I was using a +10 claymore, also have a +5 lightning greatsword) and still take no damage when blocking with them. Made my second character: this time using the uchikatana as my primary weapon while staying below 25% weight. I dare to say having fast rolls actually makes the game harder and sometimes I would over-roll or my roll would end prematurely. I want to try making a mage character next, but also heard they are quite mediocre due to limited charges on spells.

You should try something like http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~petska/ I haven't tested it myself since I bought a controller before it came out.

No, mage aren't that good in PvP vs great players cause all spells can be evaded pretty easily. PvE mages are the easiest class in the game. Sure you'll still have to fight some of the weaker opponents in close combat to preserve spell charges but a mage character allows you to choose which enemys to fight and which you just wanna destroy with spells. Also it makes most boss battles ridiculously easy. Get a weapon that scales with int and you are set. That said, imho playing mage kinda ruins the game since you can dodge almost any of the challenging fights by just spamming spells out of enemy range. This kinda applies also to most bosses. Dark souls for me shines in the close combat department but to each his own.

I think it's bad to recommend Pyromancer for new players just because they're overpowered.

PvP with my tank was so much fun, I would just 2h zwei and wait for opponent to swing at me. I would then just take the hit, break his poise with my first hit. Then second swing, and overhead slam.

I want to try making a mage character next, but also heard they are quite mediocre due to limited charges on spells. A lot of the light sets are very good, even shadow set. Heavy sets will always have more phys defense, but the lighter sets are often specialized for the other defenses, in the end it's not hugely important what you wear. I have a char that's roleplaying as a painting guardian and the armor isn't bad upgraded, the legs specifically are actually quite strong, some of the best light legs. It's kinda specialized in magic/elemental defense mostly though, so it's not as useful in pvp, but I just use dwgr on him anyway. The aiming issue is just because the ported mouse controls suck, but maybe the mentioned mouse fix will help you out there. Mages are ridiculously strong PvE. Limited spell casts isn't an issue for them, because they get way way more of their casts than other spellcasters. (Soul arrow 30, Great soul arrow 20, Homing soulmass 20, compared to 8 fireball, 4 great fireball, or 4 lightning spears). Limited charges don't make the other spellcasters mediocre at all though. Magic is really really strong because it has limited casts. It just means you can't magic every single enemy before the boss, only half of them until you reach the bonfire, and save some magic for the boss which will die in no time to magic.

But a full upgraded +10 knight set, the paladin set, or the black knight set has pretty good physical defenses along with around 50 poise at only roughly 33 total weight (iirc the brigand (bandit) chest has some of the best armor:weight value for light sets). This is very comparable to some of the heavier sets @ 50 weight, although the heavier sets have much higher poise. So far I find elemental resistances rather situational: for the most part the crest shield can take care of that need. I have got the eagle shield if I need to block any major hits...

I stuck with the game and I'm ~25 hours in (played pretty much the whole weekend). So far, I completed the "story" up to and incl. Anor Londo. I'm wearing a +15 Zweihander with the stamina regen shield on my back. Armor is what looked the best and was light enough to let me fast roll. Now my question: Stats currently (planned) 30 Vit (30) 35 End (35 or 40) 27 Str (27) 25 Dex (40) I want to go into magic after that mostly for buffs and enhancing spells not so much for spelldamage. What would you suggest to go? faith or int? Can I have the same spell multiple times slotted to use it more often? Is there a downside to not using armor pieces to lose weight? Would appreciate if someone could give me some advice on these questions. Thanks a lot in advance

Thanks a lot in advance As far as I know Magic is probably the better choice since that's what gets you the Magic Weapon series although Darkmoon Blade is also a good option and that one's a miracle. And yes, you can slot the same spell multiple times to double its use. The only downside is that you're not getting the defensive capabilities and/or poise from that unused armor piece.

This means that I could go for 32 Int and 16 Att and get the best Weapon Buff up to 4 times? Sounds fun for bosses. I went throught he spells and it basically comes down to heals vs trickery and I think the trickery sounds more fun. ![]()

Power Within is a good 40% damage boost at a cost of constant HP drain. Darkmoon blade iirc requires 30 faith. If you want more charges of a spell you need to find additional merchants that sell them, some spells you can only find 1 scroll per play through.

There are far more better utility miracles than sorceries. 30 faith is a good amount to use the buffs, tranquil walk of peace, vow of silence, great magic barrier, and forces. One question I have though is why you want to go past 25 dex, the only reason to is for more dmg on dex scaling weapons. You can already wield all weapons, and buffing and most utility spells do not cast faster with dex, nor will the extra dex make a huge difference in cast speed anymore anyway. You could drop a few for more vit, which still has pretty strong gains from 30-40(23ish per lvl), or more str to 2-hand big weapons/more dmg. It will require a couple playthroughs if you want multiple copies of the good spells though(I'd recommend stopping at 16 or 19 attunement), the best buffs show up only once.

When I was hollow I usually got 1 humanity every second run I made to the 5 rats in the Depths, now being human with 410 item discovery, I haven't gotten anything in over 20 runs. This is fucked. Edit: I suicided to become hollow and instantly found 1 humanity.
