The undead merchant at the end of the long tunnel going to Undead Burg (near capra demon) sells the moss for curing toxin and poison. They arent cheap though (4k souls iirc) but it saves grinding coz the toxin curing ones dont drop super often

I haven't played in a while but I think that either prevents or slows the build-up of Toxic. Very useful when going through Blighttown to block those stupid dart blowers. It slows it by like 50% or 65% if I remember correctly. Edit: OP should also be updated with link to the HD textures.
Definately get that shield. It also helps to block the poison dart blowing mobs in blighttown. Must have item in Blighttown. And also get the rusted iron ring. Believe me, you will praise my name for that advice.

Some weapons require you need a minimum stat in two places. I assume you have the required strength but what about magic/faith (can't remember if Astoras is a faith sword)?

Making sure you have the minimum stats is important. Also keep in mind that different enemies have different weaknesses and resists, so depending on what you're fighting, magic damage may fare better or worse than you'd expect.
Also, from what I read elsewhere (I forgot where, so feel free to correct me if this is wrong), resistances work as a flat reduction, not a percentage. That means that if your sword does 80 physical and 80 magic damage, and you hit an enemy with 50 to all resists, you'll do 30 physical and 30 magic. If you had a sword with just 160 physical, though, you'd do 110 damage. Having multiple damage types means your damage gets hit twice by enemy resists. If you're fighting an enemy that's weak to a certain element, or if the weapon does more damage than anything else you have, or you like the moveset -- then yeah, of course it's fine. Don't neglect pure physical weapons, though -- find something with a moveset you like and start upgrading. Some of the "cooler" weapons that you'd think would be more powerful (like Astora's Sword) aren't always that great in practice, so you should experiment with a variety of weapons.

Can someone explain when's a good time to use parry/riposte? I tried to use it lots but the enemies combo attacks often get me away. Am I timing it wrong of should you just not parry combos? Also sometimes I get the parry and get the slow motion/sound but I just do a weak attack instead of a critical.

Almost never. Parrying is extremely difficult unless you've practiced it a lot, and even then you risk getting hurt easily. If you almost hit it but not quite, you do take reduced damage, but it's not enough and even that is difficult to get. It sounds like you were too far away from the enemy, close enough to parrry but not to riposte, which can definitely happen. Backstabs are what you should be going for more than parry/riposte. Backstabs are far easier to hit. You are also invulnerable for almost the entire backstab animation, so don't be afraid to use it with multiple enemies around, they won't hit you.

Yeah, no char can be pure mage. However, you will be able to upgrade your weapons to scale off of int or faith, so you can have really strong weapons even as a mage with no strength dex.
For those who don't meet minimum Str requirements, 2 handing your weapon gives you +50% str with Y(/\), which may make it usuable. Other stats you have to meet or the weapon does no damage and stuns you whenever you swing and hit something.

Is there any way to turn off invasions? Kinda sucky mechanic to just have someone join your game that you couldn't kill if they afk'd for 5 minutes while every hit from them is almost a 1 shot...

Moveset is def the most important thing about weapons. I think Astora's is a holy sword though (skeletons stay dead even with necromancer alive), which makes early catacomb runs easier, but getting rid of the ones in your way and running off to kill the necromancer before they revive/follow you is often the better choice. At least Astoras's also upgrades with twinkling titanite so it's far easier to max it over regular weapons.

Don't be human. You can only be invaded if you reverse hollowing at a bonfire. There isn't much point to doing so unless you want to be invaded, or kindle bonfires.

Don't forget to hit the dragon's tail for the Drake Sword, 200 att (need 16 dex/16 str to handle it). You can hit the dragon's tail being under the bridge with an arc, a few arrows do the trick and it is totally worth it. God, don't tell people to do that, it's supposed to be a secret which you shouldn't know about your first run through the game, and it makes the whole start of the game piss-easy and takes away from the joy of the wealth of weapons etc.
What you want to be doing is instead of getting an OP sword which the devs really shouldn't have put there, is go past the bridge, kill the boar miniboss and move on. You're going in the right direction, you will soon get to the church with the real next boss.

Well then the devs shouldn't have put a black knight that can drop the black knight sword before you even get the drake sword It's a way better weapon, even if it's not as ridiculous as the black knight greataxe.

I'm finding this game pretty hard to play without a controller. The keybindings are retarded, and it doesn't help that the in-game tips show Xbox 360 buttons instead of keyboard keys.

Parrying can be quite hard to do but you must know that different weapons/shield can give you a higher parry chance frame. Things you'd expect to parry like a buckler or daggers will make it easier to parry (the parrying dagger is best) and usually you should hit the riposte. I think you either R1 too quick or too slow but you'll get the hang of it eventually.
The best way to practice parry is to find weaker monsters that won't fuck you up when you make errors and just gut them. Parrying mobs can be pretty dangerous but it can pay off a ton versus harder opponents like the knights. I think a riposte window might also apply so think riposte weapons.
It's easier to perform in PvP as people use weapons and you'll gradually learn their move sets. With the right build you can literally just one shot most people and it looks nice and painful baby.

Blighttown is HARD AS SHIT.
I have never been so angry at a videogame. I got right to the bonfire, it was right there, under the bridge, in the swamp, after more than 8 hours trying to get there and what happens.... some bitch ass mosquito swoops out of nowhere and sucks my last HP. You died.
+ Show Spoiler +
What I hate about this game is that the difficulty itself doesnt come from the enemies, but the damn environment and the mechanics. If you miss one simple block, or if you attack one too many times and leave yourself open for one second, a simple grunt enemy can kill you. It requires _constant_ constant concentration which makes it so draining.
