If you've already activated him, I usually go through the gate, run up to him and lure him back towards the stairs. Then you just gotta keep triggering his attack at the top of the stairs so you can dodge down and then hack away.

you could just do him the legit way.

Blew the dust off of my copy and started a new dex-int build last night. Any PS3 bros still play?

Yeah me and my roommate play it, we're pretty noobs though. I'm pretty close to completing the game the first time, stopped playing last character after I got the Lordvessel.

Bought the game yesterday, it´s so amazing! I´m still not sure what class to play, I like the cleric but im also totally into classes with bad-ass looking armors. Any suggestions which class is agile, good for beginners and has some nice looking armor ?

Which class you pick is pretty much irrelevant, all classes can do everything, it only makes a difference for the very first part of the game. It's more like a difficulty setting than an actual choice.
As a beginner, Pyromancer is recommended. You start with pyromancy which is quite strong early game and you get it quite a bit later on other classes. You also have an unusually high stat potential (same as wanderer I think).
I would recommend any beginner to go pyromancer and building only endurance and vitality, then going for elemental weapons. Building strength or dexterity is a great way for a beginner to make the game far harder than it needs to be.

Exception: Weapon requirements. Depending on what you want to wield, you might need a few points in agi and/or strength
Generally speaking, i'd say you should try a spear first, they are incredibly good for beginners since you can block while punching. Additional really useful advice: Get a shield with 100% physical. Loadout weight influences how agile you are depending on a percentage of your maximum weight, breakpoints are at 25, 33 and 50%. All stats have greatly diminished effects above 40, don't level them higher unless you know what you are doing.
Don't be alive except to kindle bonfires, especially in low-level areas there are a lot of hackers and people who deliberately didn't level their character while getting all the sweet gear later in the game just to fuck with newbs. Expect to be invaded and killed by those people any time you are alive.
At firelink shrine, there are many different ways. Don't take the way towards the skeletons, go towards the zombies.

Thx for your advice! My char is a lvl 19 Pyromancer, so far I spent all my souls for endurance & vitality. But right now, I have huge problems with the gargoyles on the top of the church. One or two hits and it´s over, I read that it´s important to be at a minimum level of 20-25 and use a shield with 80? That would mean that I have to farm a lot of souls :/

In the area immediately before the bossfight, that tiny cramped area at the top of the ladders, there is a summoning sign for a reasonably powerful npc that you can see/use if you are alive, if you use the sign it will summon him and he will fight with you. He is kind of tanky so you can lob fire or whack at their tail while he takes the damage.
As a general rule, if you are stuck at a bossfight, looking for allies either npc or player can be a good strategy. But like the guy above you said, it can be very dangerous to be alive for long, so be quick!
edit- should I spoiler all that?
also, if your shield is good, you will find that you can block most of their spear attacks surprisingly easily. Its the fire that really hurts.
|
I don't think you'd need to spoiler that. It's not actually a spoiler and if you're one of those hardcore 'I want to discover everything about this game myself' people then you shouldn't be reading this thread anyways.
edit* Yeah get a strong shield. Pretty much every big metal shield you find will suffice, don't walk around with those wonky wooden shields.

A few solid shields to start with I would recommend for beginners would be (spoilers if you don't want the help): + Show Spoiler +The Wooden Shield located just outside the bonfire in Undead Burg (behind a door), or even better, purchasing the Heater Shield from the Merchant in the Undead Burg for 1000 souls if you choose to spare them. The Heater is a great shield, fairly light, and can easily last most characters the whole game. Also great against fire damage, which will probably be a decent amount or even majority of the non-physical damage you'll take throughout the course of the game.

I am currently using this one: http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/Knight Shield , found it at a corpse near the steel bull. I guess Ill collect some more souls and push my stamina/vita a little more.
@PassiveAce: I know it´s just that I do not want to waste these allies on one of my first tries. So at first I have to figure out how to beat that gargoyle properly.

You should be able to block just about every attack with that shield's stability sans maybe its large 2-handed overhead attack with your level of stamina. If you just circle strafe it while blocking im not sure he he can even hit you.

The ally will be there every time, the only thing that gets wasted is that you have to use another humanity item to get a humanity so you can reverse hollowing again to summon him. The heater shield that was recommended is an amazingly good shield, very light for a full phys shield and fast parry, the current shield you are using isn't really that great, it's just heavy with no real benefit, other than being a quickly found shield with 100 phys. Only the resistance numbers and to a lesser extent stability(how much stamina is drained) matter on the shield, the other number is an attack number, so heater shield is better than knight shield in resists for 1 less stability, and is less than half the weight.
For equipping weapons, good stat breakpoints are 16 str and 12-14 dex, which will allow you to use the vast majority of weapons in the game so you can try out what you want. 2-handing your weapon also increases your str by 50%, so you can use weapons with up to 24 str requirement. Vit/End should still be priorities for a beginner though.
Also, while shielding is useful for beginners, I highly recommend you start practicing the dodge roll to get good at eventually, it is incredibly strong. It's not just avoidance, it has a small invincibility window, so you can dodge through attacks that would look like they hit you(though aoe's like fire can't usually be dodged). The dodge roll is easily the best move in the game.
You'll get the gargoyles eventually, just shield the attacks and try to focus the first one down really fast. They are weak to lightning, so using Gold Pine Resin on your weapon can help. If you really have trouble, you can summon both another player and two npc's (the second you have to free from a cell on the top floor of the chapel first and talk to him) and they'll go down really easily to four people. The npc's could probably even do it by themselves.

Dodge roll is overrated. Yes, it is useful, but it is also hard to use. I finished the game (am in NG+++ or so now) mostly relying on block. Sure, i roll out of some very obvious things, and use it offensively, but i stopped trying to go for the invicibility frames because i suck at that.
Also, i'd not overly rely on NPCs for your boss kills in general, it feels a lot more rewarding to be finally able to do it on your own. Which weapon are you using at the moment, and have you upgraded it to +5 at the blacksmiths? If you haven't, that is the main point where you should invest your souls before doing anything else with them.
Other then that, learn the tells of the gargoyles attacks, and try to kill the first one as fast as possible from 50% down. It is possible to kill him before the other really acts, which makes the fight a lot easier. Don't rely on your shield against the flamebreath, get out of the way. And learn which attacks are easy to dodge and go in for a hit. Standing on lower ground then the gargoyle you are fighting is pretty useful, too, since then a lot of his stuff goes over your head. You can cut of their tails for a crappy axe.
Parrying, on the other hand, is one thing you should work on at some time. It is pretty useless at most parts of the game, but it makes some fights a lot easier. It is not really a priority, since the fights it is most useful at is the final fight in the game, and everything involving knights.

Can you guys suggest me fun builds for PvE ( I'm not that interested in PvP ) ? I'm currently using a int build with the Moonlight Greatsword, but I'm not liking it that much. Any ideas ?
|
I started playing with spears, which is kind of fun, but then randomly found a murakumo and never looked back. So much damage. But since you didn't like the other greatsword, maybe that is not for you. You can always incorporate Pyromancy into any build since it does not scale of soul levels, setting things on fire is fun.

Argh, I killed the steel boar, the black knight, that fat black knight in the church, the necromancer in the church plus this one legged monster right next to the blacksmith. But these gargoyles... they´re pain in the ass. It´s no problem to fight the first one until the second one arrives. And it´s not only them, sometimes I´m having huge difficulties with the camera :-/
Guess I´ll use that gold pine resin, though I wanted to save it for later.
Edit: I´m using a longsword +4. Just because I like swords^^
