Guess I´ll use that gold pine resin, though I wanted to save it for later.
Edit: I´m using a longsword +4. Just because I like swords^^
a suggestion, if you like swords, a claymore is like a longsword but big and huge and very strong. So if you ever see one, try it out. The stab strong attack is awesome.

For anyone undecided on what their build should be, I found an old (random) challenge board link. I rolled naked + sack as the armor set I have to use...I don't know if I'll be able to finish the game with this handicap. (maybe I'll up my res, dunno if it's worth it)

You should really experiment with a few weapons, i stuck to my first weapon for way too long and didn't even notice how shitty it was. You might also want to experiment with wearing less or more armor, most people really want to stay below the 25%.
As for smaller sword weapons, my favorite, and that of a lot of other people too, is the Balder Side Sword. The problem is that it is rather annoying to get, you need to farm quite a few Balder Knights for that (the better guys in Undead Parish, wearing armor and stuff). For larger swords, i really enjoyed my Murokumo (yes, i am incredibly mainstream).
In case you didn't notice, the Blacksmith sells Titanite Shards, so upgrading anything to +5 is not really a problem.

I'll try it with fix later tonight, played it for about 10 minutes before alt f4ing - felt like it was playing on an emulator and a very bad one at that. Starts off windowed, had to click the start button, had to start a new game to even get a decent options menu to turn windowed off and stop the sound from deafening me, all keys and information was given as console keys, graphics looked like something from the early 2000's and it was clunky as hell, not to mention games for windows live.
Quite possibly the worst introductory experience I have had with a game to date, hope its worth it.

Use a 360 controller, the keyboard controls are awkward as hell. It's a rushed port but the game more than makes up for it.
Bitching about the graphics is stupid as shit, too. Firstly as it was made for consoles so what would you expect? Secondly as if it matters when the aesthetics are as good as they are.
Honestly I had a similar reaction when I first started it up, but after plugging in a controller and getting into the game I didn't give a shit and put a ton of hours in. Not playing this because it's a dodgy port would be like throwing aside Paradise Lost because the binding was a bit tatty.

edit: Removed, double post

The menus and graphics look fine they just don't function worth shit after vanilla download.

I am more bothered by the clunkiness than the graphics itself, I play plenty of old games/games with shit graphics but this one stutters every time I move the camera. But yes, everyone I know that plays this game tells me its awesome if you can get over the fact its a really bad port.
Sadly I don't have a 360 controller spare so I hope the fix will solve the control issue or at least alleviate it.

If you're playing with keyboard use the i j k and l keys for camera, it works way better than mouse imo.
Personally I have no problem playing with keyboard only, it just takes some getting used to.

The game is great but he has a valid point about the horrible PC version. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488240
This will fix the texture resolution of the game if you havent heard about it before. Makes it much more playable, also I recommend using a controller.

Im SURE theres a mouse fix out there somewhere that fixes the borked camera controls, Im sure i seen it somewhere.
Check Dark souls nexus or moddb.

use a controller unless you have very high bullshit tolerance.

You're pretty correct. I would go as far as to say don't play the game without DSFix. It makes that much of a difference.
I don't know how powerful your PC is though so there may be some performance issues that are more hardware-related. I haven't had choppy camera problems in the game.

The game is perfectly playable with keyboard/keyboard+mouse, but honestly, you're probably going to save yourself a lot of frustration by getting a controller. I'm a cheap bastard myself so I can understand if you don't want to, but it's a much better experience to be sure, and honestly, there's quite a lot of games nowadays which are very enjoyable using a 360 controller, so it's not a bad investment.

Fuck my life. I decided today to start a new character because my first hero is a thief whom I upgraded dex+str. I also play on keyboard so you can imagine how many times I have seen YOU DIED. I like to go through games by myself but I checked this thread few times and picked up some things. So I started a knight who is really really slow, rolls are absolutely useless, how do you guys fight boses with him? Anyways I somehow mislicked after trying to leave my inventory and killed the first merchant which basically means I have to farm like 10 firebombs from zombies now to kill that Taurus. They dont drop really often but I have like 15 waistclothes now :/ So what do I do? Farm or reroll again?
|
You can try wearing medium armor to try and get the medium roll, which is okay - at least it was for me on my first playthrough. And as of bosses: shields are surprisingly good in some cases. In other you'll need to pray for good doge/roll. And why farming firebombs? Easy way to kill Taurus demon is to leap at him from that tower, rinse and repeat.

Yeah, that was the main mistake i made through most of the earlygame. You can block everything. It is a bit counterintuitive to block the giant mace a boss 10 times your size swings at you, or even far larger things where blocking them should not work, ever.
Also not wearing lighter armor. I started as a knight, and thought that you were supposed to move that slowly. It made things a lot harder then they should be.
As for taurus demon, you don't need firebombs, just kill him. All his moves are telegraphed half a minute beforehand. Learn which to block, which to dodge, and hit him in between his strikes. Also, running behind him is surprisingly effective.
