With the knowledge of the game and the skills i gained, i thought it would be a good idea to be alive for most of it. Now, i already got invaded twice by absurdly high leveled characters in undead burg so far, which were basically immortal to my attacks and oneshot me. But not only that, they also make me unable to leave the game or use bonfire for the long periods they just stand around laughing at me. One of them followed me around and kicked me whenever i engaged enemies until i noticed that i could actually hurt him with my bandits knife, at which point he was forced to kill me with one hit. This reliably happened within 5-10 minutes of me being alive.
So basically, is the only way to play this game to just always stay dead and just reverse that to kindle bonfires? And really, what exactly is even the point of that whole nonsense? It seems to be mostly there just so people can grief others after they have kindled a bonfire. I don't understand why this system is even there in a pure singleplayer game. Probably just to justify bullshit G4WL.
Is there any point to being alive at all other then if you want to get raped by people 50-100 levels ahead of you?
Those were most likely hackers actually if they were "immortal" to your attacks and one shot you. High level gear can allow you to two shot people usually, not one shot. I wouldn't say the PvP is broken though. The PvP is basically just an fully open PvP system (many games have this where everyone is your enemy unless you specifically called them to help). DS version of choosing limited PvP/PvE modes/servers is using the specific invasion types yourself and going offline mode.
Being human has limited use, you can kindle bonfires, summon help for bosses (player or npc), fight npc phantoms (which often have unique items) and fight player phantoms.

That is incorrect, you are in NG+ if you beat the final boss and respawned in the undead asylum. NG is the first playthrough, each + is a subsequent playthrough (NG+++ would be the 4th playthrough). It's probably just that you are getting better at the game and your equipment and levels are better, that it doesn't seem like it's much harder.
The Gold Tracer in the offhand is very fast, and can be used with slower right hand weapons to compensate if enemies get close, but probably won't stagger enemies easily especially in ng+ now. The Dark Silver Tracer causes Toxin with its strong attack only in the right hand slot, so if using both that's the biggest reason to have the Gold in the left and Silver in the right.
Not being able to parry or block is not really that important. Dodge roll is a thousand times better than both parry and block. Block has way too much blockstun that can really screw you up, and parry is very difficult to pull off anyway, though very powerful if you can learn to do it reliably, so it is really great in PvE, but it's not nearly as vital as dodge roll is. Seriously, the dodge roll is f'in op.

Thanks for the clarification. Smough and Ornstein were surprsingly easy if it's trully NG+. :O I'm going to try a bit with Gold Tracer is Offhand. It can't be bad to practice dodge rolling a bit more. I've read that the medium dodgerolling has been buffed too.. Is using the dodgeroll ring still anyway good now ?
I never know what ring to use. I have the ring of Lautrec, and I tend to use either the Hornet, or Hawk ring ( cuz I freaking love my +15 Pharis bow ) or the dodgeroll one.

Is there any way to aim with sorceries/ranged weapons other than autotarget that is completely incapable of hitting any moving target?

As a roll, the ninja flip is still just as good as it used to be, it's just much harder to get to it since you need to sacrifice a lot of weight, which means less defense and especially poise, though for pve poise is slightly less important(still good though). The dwgr flip goes farther, recovers faster, and has more invincibility frames, so it makes dodging much easier. Medium roll is probably what you should do if you want to practice, as you can have good armor for when you screw up, and can mostly pretty much wear whatever you want.
@Simbarto Bows can be aimed in a first person mode using L1/LB (if you use it left handed and haven't 2-handed it yet it will first 2-hand it, then second press will go first person) and you can zoom with the dpad up/down, though arrows come out slightly to the left of center and drift right due to the bow appearing a bit to the left so as not to obstruct the view. Crossbows can't be aimed in first person mode. Magic/ranged weapons are pretty difficult to aim untargeted, they technically go where you are looking with the camera but it's difficult to tell exactly where that will be. I have killed off the + Show Spoiler +Red Bridge Dragon in Undead burg from in front of the rat room with soul arrows before by looking/aiming, but it's not easy. The pyromancy fireball types and combustions are probably the easiest to aim untargeted as you can aim near the ground and hit with the explosion radius for the fireballs(higher level spells easier with larger radius) and the combustions have a pretty wide hitbox. Untargeted magic/ranged weapons is quite difficult though, it's probably better to manipulate the enemies into attacking/running straight towards you/retreating before timing your attack properly.

I'm still under 25% with Ciaran armor, her weapons, my bow and a safety high magic resist shield in case of sorcerer so I guess I can stick with the ninja flip ring. =o

Griefers are really a big problem with this game's PvP system early on. It's easy for someone who knows the game to take advantage of non-scaling weapons and pyromancies at low soul levels and wreck brand new players in the Undead Burg. I hope there's a better method of introducing players to PvP and giving invaded players a fair chance (like measuring number of bosses beaten) in Dark Souls 2.

You can also use the x360 emulator if you dont have a Xbox360 controller. It worked like a charm on my rumbleforce.

Highly recommend using motionjoy or an equiv for Dark souls PTD, it makes the game so much more awesome to sit back and play.

I use motionjoy as well and it works wonderfully ! I totally recommend it if you want to use a ps3 controller.

Hey guys, just posting here to seek some advice.
I started a new character with a strength based build in mind. Planned to make a guy with a only a big ass sword. I picked up the Zweihander sword from the graveyard and am now headed to Blighttown having buffed the sword to +3.
So in the future,
what stats should I boost after I have like 45+ str?
can I find a better big sword lying around nearby to equip?
|
I'd recommend leveling stats to 40 at max since after 40 you get strongly diminishing returns. Other than strength, vitality and endurance are your most important stats. So far so that imo endurance is more important than strength, and vitality is least important.

With the zwei I wouldn't bother going past 30ish strength really until a bit later on, since more endurance is usually a better choice. I'm sure some PVPers tend to stick around 30 something, but I don't remember the number since I don't really PVP.
Also managed to dodge the 4kings homing magic attack last run. I knew it was possible I just hadn't did that boss since I found out. For anyone who doesn't know, the trick is to just run towards the boss and then circle it, since the turning circle of the spell is really wide.
Hoping we get some news on DS2 release dates soon. I know it'll probably be end of the year or just at the start of next, but I'm wondering if Japan will get much of a headstart again. If it does I might have to go brush up on my kanji.

get enough str to equip it and enchant it lightning later. Zwei doesn't really have a good scaling so getting massive str is wasted unless you plan on going for a big hammer later. Almost all weapons in Dark Souls are playable so "better" is rather a question of the moveset than anything else. You can farm a Demon great machete after killing ceasless discharge if you want to it has good attack power and way better scaling than the Zwei if you want to go the normal upgrade path. It drops from the respawnable capra demons.

I fucked up my bitch-kill of Ceaseless Discharge, he doesn't jump to the entrance and instead just stands far away and does some aoe attack that does around 70% of my hp in one hit. Is there any way to fix this? It ruined my Artorias character playthrough :<
