uncharted 3 and portal 2 were great, but I will probably not remember them that well in the future, and they each disappointed me in some ways (both played it way too safe, and then had their own slight problems (uncharted 3 felt too rushed in the 2nd half, portal 2 had some really lame puzzles)). gears 3 and crysis 2 were OK. gears 3 was probably the best gears, but there are just other better cover-based 3rd person shooters out there now (namely vanquish, which mops the floor with ANY 3rd person shooter lol). crysis 2 was probably the best FPS in a while (single-player at least), although not nearly as good as the original crysis. i havent played arkham city, but i've had it for like a week from gamefly and just ZERO motivation to open the game lol.i have absolutely no interest in any of the elder scrolls games so I wont be playing skyrim either. bastion is probably the only game i've played this year that I was completely satisfied with to the end. it's strange how much of a good impression that game has left on me. it's just a fantastic game. so that is my vote for now lol although I still want to play dark souls after this semester ends.

I don't expectthe pool next year to be nearly as deep. Mass Effect 3 comes out next year though. On the other hand Blizzard has like 3 shots at GotY. HotS, Diablo 3, and WoW expansion.

Deus Ex: human revolution gets my vote. Its a really great game that has pretty much everything; good soundtrack, good story and NPC interaction, good gameplay etc.

I can argue that this game is FAR from repetitive because it allows you to be basically any class you want. So you can kill them with magic, weapons, stealth mode, tanks mode, bare fist, archery anything....I dont see how that repetitive. I dont see what more you would want... lvl system is mainly the player opinion. It make the player want to try new thing and explores the game. Sure, it can be broken but that why it is a one player game. Although I personally like it. I find the voice acting to be amazingly good and the freedom to basically do what ever you want. It makes you want to explore and travel and discover all of skyrim. That is what it means to be a good RPG. Better AI? It incredibly hard to make AMAZING AI, I think the AI in this game are already good. You must not play alot of these game so you dont understand how hard it is to make a good AI. Anyways, your main concern is bugs and bugs can be fix with patches. There we go, GOTY right there. You list alot of flaws but you dont list what can be improved. I dont really see what more you can ask for.... I have to say I didnt play it for very long (~15hours) The AI is incredible bad. And no it's not incredible hard to build an AI which will not stop acting as soon as their target moves to a hard to reach position. And the game is repetitive. If we use your points "you can be every class you want" we have the replay value problem ![]() A good RPG has restrictions - so having every possible option available is imho not that good. This is something I completely miss from Skyrim - are there any big decisions? My actions dont really seem have consequences (as I mentioned only played ~15hours). Apart from which side to pick in the war of course. And from some memes ("Become Archmage - if you have the aptitude you should join the mages college at winterhold") it seems NPCs dont really react to past events (which they should). Also there's basically no balance. Stealth Archer with Blacksmithing & Enchanting. Everything dies in 2-3 hits even on master vs S&B. They also didnt solve the enemy-scaling problem. While it's definitely better compared to Oblivion - do I really want to run into a random cave and one-shot everything there, since it's 0 challenge? Though I dont really know how to fix that problem ("too easy" vs "those random bandits are wearing more expensive gear than me!"). Maybe a difficulty meter for each Q, so I dont waste my time 1shotting bandits when I'm looking for a challenge, but have the option to when I want. Not saying it's a mediocre game or a 7. But I dont know if it's GOTY. But imho GOTY is stupid anyway - since everyone has a personal opinion. And just because more people like something doesnt mean its better ![]()

The vanilla game is a good platform, but the content shipped is nearly exclusively the game world and locations. Rest of it is really pretty bad.

Then dont play it that way? If you want it to be harder, you dont use the overpowered stuff. Blacksmithing and enchanting is pretty much broken, but its pretty easy to just ignore those skills. Its a single player game, you make your own rules.

Considering within just the PC domain I think it's pretty high up.
