I also think this. I just got Skyrim because of the hype, but really I didn't enjoy the game. I played it, it was fun with a wide open world, but I didn't enjoy it. But I don't see anything topping it. It was hyped to hell and back again. -.-

Otherwise Skyrim. Deus Ex gets an honorable mention in my book too.

Blacksmithing and enchanting is pretty much broken, but its pretty easy to just ignore those skills. Its a single player game, you make your own rules. I'm actually that S&B guy I mentioned ![]() "But then dont play it that way" - well you're of course right it's better for the personal experience. But that logic can be applied to multiple other games / scenarios. And it doesnt change that it's bad design.

skyrim is awesome but so much of my hopes still ride on future modding minecraft sorely lacks terraria's content but gains major points by virtue of being first and having a 3rd dimension. (i can only imagine how awesome a 3D terraria would be) bastion was meh I havent played any of the console heavy hitters SO my GOTY vote goes to games still in development (dota2, dcss, dwarf fortress). game of the year, every year.

Waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait. You played a game that you found boring for 100 hours? Can I hire you to mow my lawn or something?

Skyrim with a marginal lead. Developers take notes on how to develop a passion for a game. Oh wait, nevermind all you have to is copy paste a formula 15 year olds love for 7 games in a row. My bad.
